My odyssey lost power/wouldnt accelerate/wouldnt shift as we approached the top of a 7% grade. we pulled over, shut the car off and checked fluids etc.. everything was fine. we tried to get going again and the van wouldnt go. we sat for about an hour and tried again, and the van got going again perfectly fine. we were able to get to honda when it broke down again. honda diagnosed it wwith a bad transmission/torque converter. the atf fluid was burnt (my odyssey has the atf fluid cooler too). the tech said the vcm (eco mode, variable cylinder management) increases the load/stress on the vehicle and is a contriuting factor of the break down. my odyssey has been meticulosly maintained at honda y honda specs/recommendations. i had no previous indication my trans was going out (no gear slipping anything. it drove fine up until it broke down) i called american honda for assistance in the repair, and they failed to even offer any sort of help. from what ive googled, honda odysseys have common trans/torque converter issues and american honda is well aware of the problems on the odysseys. after this, i will not buy another honda.

Trying to close the rear passenger-side automatic sliding door, it would close half-way, start beeping and open up again. it would do this over and over again, until it finally closed several tries later. turning the automatic function off would not help. when putting it on manual function, the door would jam and literally not budge. this happened several times before it just stopped working altogether. the last time we attempted to open the door, it ended up remaining open for the entire day because it was literally jammed in the open position. thankfully it was in our driveway! we haven't opened it since. moving forward to last month, november 2012. the driver's side automatic door started squeaking upon opening and closing. a week later, it too was refusing to shut. this time i was at a grocery store and ended up stranded in the parking lot with my 6 year old for over an hour before i could finally get the door to shut. it is winter and thus, very cold these days. i am now having to load my kids in the van from the front passenger side door or through the trunk. i don't dare open either automatic door. unfortunately, i have seen this exact scenario with too many other honda odyssey owners. this has the potential of being a major safety issue, depending on where people are when the doors refuse to close. not to mention the potential insurance liability if the doors refuse to close and one is left with no choice but to leave their vehicle wide open for any length of time.

My odyssey's motor mount failed last year before i hit 100,000. i was recently told that i need to replace the other three. it is my understanding that this is an ongoing problem with the vehicle, and honda should recall the vehicles for this defect

Have had intermittent vibration coming from engine compartment. primarily occurs at any speed when the vcm or eco mode activates. not sure what other issues this may cause but seems unsafe. honda dealer diagnosed issue as a broken rear engine mount. cost to repair is $866.

I took my car in for an oil change and they advised me that my front engin motor mount has gone bad. i have not gotten it replaced however they are charging my $800.00 for it. after reading thousands of complaints online it seems that honda 2005's and above are having issues with them breaking more often then what they should be since the actual unit is tucked up right near the exhaust manifold and the rubber wears out quickly. i have never ever experienced a car where you had to replace the mount under 100k miles.

Passenger side sliding door failed to disengage the lock. had to take to the dealer where they removed the door panel and replaced the latch. since the door would not open they had to do this from the inside of the vehicle. on 9/1/2012 the driver side sliding door also failed to disengage the lock. i have not had this repaired yet. i believe this is a safety defect. luckily both times we were parked, but if it had been an emergency valuable time would have been wasted in trying to get a non-functioning door to open.

Front motor mount is torn and recommend replacing for $951.28 + tax; side motor mount is leaking and recommend replacing for $238.88 + tax. this van is used mainly for driving my kids to school and activities. no heavy towing nor hard driving. i was told that it's a common problem with honda odyssey, but at this time honda corporation has not addressed it. my van really makes noise and rattles when accelerating and i'm concerned that it is a safety issue if the engine is not secured properly.

Our van has two broken motor mounts. most of our car's mileage is highway and easy driving. there seems to be no good reason for why they are broken. judging from the experience of others on-line, it would appear that the design is poor and the cost to repair them (replace) is extremely high. not sure if this falls within your area of review or not.

The driver side passanger sliding door would not latch. we were told by the dealership to turn it on manual so we could drive it with out hearing the door alarm. we were told that it would be safe to drive while one manual. while driving you could hear the door trying to latch auto even when it was set to manual. when i was turning a corner the driverside passanger door popped open and slid all the way open. we had an issue with the other sliding door last year and the dealership ended up replacing the latch on that door but the door never opened all the way. i would have though there would be a saftey mechanisim in place on those doors to prevent it from openeing while driving but i was wrong.

Rear engine mount is broken. car has approximately 74,500 miles and is a 2006.

Rear automatic door would open then slam down a bit then reopen, slam, reopen and then on third try slam shut. my wife was under the door the first time it happened and the door slammed on her. now i see a recall of 08,09 models for the same problem. had to have rear struts replaced. need to expand recall.

The power lift gate fell down on me; luckily no one was directly under it when it fell. it happened instantly; when i opened it up, it crashed down the first time. upon further attempts to open it, it would slowly open and then jerk and then go back down. it will not stay open by itself. the local honda service center inspected it and said the struts had gone out on it and replaced them both. according to news feb 21, 2012, honda odysseys are being recalled for the same issue in march 2012; my 2006 model has done the same thing the news articles report.

Rear engine mounts broken. front engine mounts very poor condition. been advised that common problem.

In the summer of 2009, my 2006 honda odyssey developed a strong, foul odor for which no source could be found. i vacuumed the carpet, left containers of baking soda inside, and even threw away the rubber floor mats, thinking they had deteriorated in the summer heat. the odor did not go away. (the car had been garage-kept until around that time.) in 2010, when taking the car for a routine service appointment, i asked the service manager to check for the problem. he wanted to replace the cabin air filter, which i had already done myself. in september, 2011, after hurricane irene, the tailgate hatch would slosh and spill water when opened. this past week, i went to drive the car on an extended trip. when i went to lift the rear seats, which had been folded into the cargo area, to the upright position, i discovered that the seats were covered in mold and rust and were dripping with water. the cargo area carpeting was saturated. upon researching this problem on the internet, i learned that this has been a problem since at least november, 2010. besides the heath risks associated with exposure to inhaling mold, the rust may have compromised the integrity of the hardware securing the seats to the floor, to say nothing of the cosmetic damage to the leather of the seats.

Failure of exhaust system heat shields could cause vehicle fire. consumer has no way of knowing that the safety shields are no longer in place. dealer indicated exhaust system heat shields were loose and missing and had to be replaced. dealer indicated failure to replace could result in melting of insulation on electrical wires. i feel the heat shields should have been manufactured using stainless steel to prevent corrosion and loss of this important safety feature. at $615 to replace, it is unlikely many people will have this work performed, especially as the vehicle ages. there are normal/expected safety features that car owners expect to replace (tires, wiper blades and bulbs). the consumer has no way of knowing if the safety shields have fallen from the vehicle. when contacting honda customer service i was told it was my responsibility to keep the car operating in a safe manner. but if i was not told (by the dealer) that i had a safety issue, i would have had no way of knowing. there are likely many other unsuspecting odyssey owners with this potential safety/fire hazard.

At less than 80,000 my honda odyssey have been diagnosed as having a broken rear engine mount causing vibration/ratlling noise. several honda odyssey van owners have similar complaint.
10/20/201182600
Our car started having a louder engine/transmission noise during acceleration and going uphill. when the dealer checked it out they said that the rear engine mount would need to be replaced (at a cost of $800 plus). after doing some research on this, i believe that this is a design flaw with the honda odyssey that occurs because of the variable cylinder engine, which cuts out 2 cylinders when they are not needed and thus saves gas mileage on these cars. my understanding is that the rear motor mount on these cars was designed to help dampen any vibration caused when the 2 cylinders were not in use and has been wearing out before its regular life (some at 50,000 miles). i request that nhtsa look into both the design of this device and also the excessive cost of the part for these cars (other engine mounts are considerably cheaper) -- and i propose a recall to replace the part. thank you.

Recently i have felt a shuddering at speeds below 40mph. i take it to the shop for that problem as well as another issue with my power sliding doors. this is not the first time i have had problems with my doors. i have already had to replace the motor in the driver side sliding door(which was covered by warranty at the time). and now i am look at replacing power door center rollers in both power sliding doors at an estimated $560.00 (and no longer have warranty). since i have had the vehicle it has been a hassle with the power sliding doors. they close have way on my children getting in and out of the car all the time. and dont work the other half of the time. the issue with the shuddering is due to front and rear engine mounts needing to be replaced at an estimated $1355.00. i have done some research online about this problem and it seems that alot of the 2006 honda odyssey's have had the same issue and some happening again shortly after it has already been replaced once. i think that honda shoould do a recall on the defective engine mounts. this cannot be safe to ride in. i have also read that honda is aware of the problem and is calling it a known issue but still not fixing the problem or reimbursing people the cost of repairs. how many more people have to complain about this or even get injured before honda will do something about it???

I'm the original owner of a honda odyssey 2006 ex-l, i have religiously maintained it and have used honda filters, oils and lubricants, have done oil changes every 7,500 per honda maintenance schedule and replaced tranny fluid every 15,000 miles, especially after knowing this has been an issue with previous odyssey's and current ones. at 52,000 miles i had to replace a broken motor mount (known issue that honda won't acknowledge) thankfully extended warranty covered it. at 90,700 (my extended warranty expired at 85,200 miles) my transmission started making a whining noise (i have had 2 independent mechanics and a honda dealership verify the tranny is going south). in addition to the motor mount and transmission issues, this vehicle has had recalls to replace front brake pads, brake master o ring, power steering pump and paint peeling. for a $33k vehicle, it sure is a lemon.

Ac condenser cracked and caused the air conditioner to not function properly. dealer stated damage due to road debris hitting ac condenser. honda original design has condenser exposed at front bumper. dealer repair included new condenser and heavy gauge wire screen to protect condenser from future damage. clearly honda knows they have a poor vehicle design and is covertly addressing the issue at customer and insurance company expense. dealers are encouraging customers to file insurance claims for road damage. repair cost was $722, with $415 for the condenser. thankfully or safety was not in jeopardy. since our honda odyssey model year, honda has changed design to include a think plastic insert into the front bumper to protect the condenser. van is 2006 with less than 60,000 miles. it is driven mostly in the city. the damage appeared immediately following an oil change at honda on grand in elmhurst. prior to the oil change, the van was not leaking any fluids. post oil change, the condenser started leaking. at first, the dealer thought it was oil leaking. they diagnosed the problem a week later after fluid continued to drip and leave large spots on the driveway.

About 1 month ago my 2006 honda odyssey started making low frequency sound when accelerating from a complete stop. after visiting the dealer i was told that rear motor mount has to be replaced at a cost of $1000. i did research on this issue and it appears that many 2005 and later odysseys have the same issue which points to a manufacturer defect. honda is refusing to replace the part even though their representative told me that they are aware of the problem.

Hi i would like to bring it to your attention that my 2006 odyssey(ex-l with dvd) a/c switch will not work in winter, when pressed it is like a rock. a/c switch becomes hard to press in winter/fall driving conditions. in summer no issue at all. why this is a safety issue: under certain night driving conditions in fall or winter, windshield fog forms during night driving.i was unable to turn on front de-fog switch which works only when ac is on. as a result i had to pull over & press ac switch hard to make it work. due to thick fog on glass, was unable to see infront until ac switch was turned on with front windshield defog mode. hope nhtsa looks in to this issue & recommend manufacturer to fix this issue.

The power lift gate on 2006 odyssey failed hitting my husband on the shoulder. we had no prior warning of this happening and it could have easily resulted in a more serious injury had the gate closed on one of my children. honda currently has a recall on 2005 vehicle for this issue but when i called them they said they would make a note but at this time did not have any information as to a recall of the 2006. my local dealerships acknowleged a problem with the deteriation of the gas struts in the odyssey.this clearly a dangerous defect and needs to be rectified before someone gets seriously injured.

Failure of the lift gate gas struts on a 2006 honda odyssey touring that causes the gate to close unexpectedly. consequences were an adult male being hit in the back by the lift gate. in this instance no serious injury had occurred, but if the person in the path of the lift gate were smaller the weight and momentum of the gate could easily cause head and neck injuries. i would assume most owners of this minivan have children and there is no doubt that a child in the path of a failing lift gate would sustain serious injury. the lift gate gas struts need to be replaced. honda is aware of the issue and has offered a recall for this on similar vehicles, but has not yet offered any correction for the vehicle we own.

2006 honda odyssey touring--with no warning, the rear liftgate came slamming down--rear liftgate strut failure--no one under, but could cause serious injury

My car is a honda odyssey touring 2006. i remotely opened the tailgate and stepped under it to put up the third row seat. the tailgate unexpectedly began to lower and hit me in the head pretty hard. i then tried again thinking it was an error and was almost hit again. the third time i tried to stop the door from going down but could not. now the tailgate will not remain open and i can no longer safely get access to my children's things in the back of the van. it was scary and unnerving to me when this happened because i could not stop the tailgate from going down. there was no safety for me to stop it.

2006 honda odyssey ex-l liftgate struts not working. i had the hatch door open & it suddenly shut hard on it's own. my daughter and i were getting groceries from the van at the time. until this time, there was no indication that the parts were wearing. i just had the van in a honda dealership on 4/21 for repairs that included having them check out why the cargo area was filled with water. i will order replacement parts & install.

Please review your 10v-055000 concerning 2005 honday odyssey touring's rear lift gate support cylinders. my vehicle is a 2006 with the same problem. the problem occurred before the expiration of the 36 month/36000 mile warranty. unfortunately, my wife did not tell me of the problem until a week after the 36 month warranty expired. honda shows the part number for this lift cylinder as 74820-shj-a61. this part number was used on 2005-2008 vehicles. the local honda dealer at first was unwilling to do anything. after i insisted he call honda, he informed me that there was a recall in progress. however, since my vehicle was not currently a part of the affected vehicles, the best honda would do was pay for the replacement parts if i paid the dealership for the labor. sounds to me like honda knows they have a bigger problem, but are unwilling to expand the recall. instead, they are trying to fix the larger problem on the cheap. and then, only if they are called to task about it. it is clear to me, that as time goes on, the 2006, 2007, and 2008 vehicles will experience the same problems. please get this recall expanded to include the 2006-2008 vehicles, as well as the 2005 vehicles. it is the same part number for all vehicles, 2005-2008.

Power liftgate closes unexpectedly every time it is opened on model year 2006 odyssey touring vehicles equipped with power operated rear liftgate. vehicle owner hit in head by closing liftgate. right power liftgate gas strut has worn out prematurely and fails to hold the power liftgate in the fully open position. parts replaced by dealer to correct the failure.

Honda odyssey rear tailgate struts failed completely, causing the rear tailgate to freefall with no support. luckily, no one was under the gate when it initially collapsed, but it could have caused serious injury. after researching the problem, i've seen that honda is voluntarily recalling 2005 models for the same problem, but not the 2006 we own.

My honda oddyssey when i take a curve and i need to stop, the brakes are so soft and my van take too long to stop. the dealer said that was unable to reply this problem, so they don't do anything to fix the problem and i still with that problem, i don't know who can help me to make my dealer fix my problem, i feel is not safe
09/20/200932800
When the car came to a hard stop, the brake made a craking sound. once this happenned, it continued everytime the brake was used. the brake did not work as good as it did before, i can notice it took longer to stop. at the dealership, drum surface was recoded. the van had 3/4 of the brake left and the drum just needed a resurfacing coding... it only takes one hard brake for the problem to come back all over again. once back the brake does not holds on the tire like it did previously. i have gone back to the dealership, and they told me the oddessy has a lot of problems with the brake and it is very common between oddessy drives. the problem keepes coming back, and it does not make me any safer because it is a common problem for the oddessy drivers.
