Defect SummaryHonda is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 pilot and 2011-2013 odyssey passenger vehicles manufactured from march 13, 2008, through december 21, 2012. one or more rivets that attach the airbag module to the airbag cover may be missing.
Consequence SummaryThe absence of more than one rivet could alter the performance of the driver's airbag during deployment. this could potentially increase the risk of injury during a crash.
Corrective SummaryHonda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a honda dealer. the dealer will inspect the driver's airbag module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. the recall is expected to begin on, or about, february 16, 2013. owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2012 honda odyssey. while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact crashed into a deer that was positioned in the middle of the road. the front driver's side air bag failed to deploy upon impact. during the crash, the front passenger's seat belt did not retract properly to secure the occupant. there was no personal injury. the front driver's side of the vehicle sustained severe damages. the vehicle was towed to a collision center and repaired. the technician stated that the air bag failure was contributed to the wire connectors disconnecting from the air bag sensor. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,758. sm.
