Defect SummaryIsuzu is recalling certain model year 1998-2002 isuzu rodeo and model year 2002 isuzu axiom vehicles, and honda is recalling certain 1998-2002 honda passport vehicles, that were originally sold, or are currently registered, in the states of maine, new hampshire, vermont, massachusetts, rhode island, connecticut, new york, new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware, maryland, the district of columbia, west virginia, ohio, indiana, michigan, illinois, wisconsin, minnesota, iowa, missouri, and kentucky. vehicles that have experienced sustained exposure to highly corrosive materials used in some jurisdictions for road deicing purposes may experience excessive corrosion in the vicinity of the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link prior to the time that such corrosion would normally be expected.
Consequence SummaryExcessive corrosion may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame, which can affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area. for vehicles in which little or no corrosion is found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. for vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. in the rare event the corrosion is so severe that the reinforcement bracket remedy would not be appropriate, isuzu and honda will develop an appropriate remedy. all inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are 10 years old or less. for vehicles older than 10 years, isuzu will offer a free remedy, but only if the vehicle is presented to an isuzu service facility, or honda dealer (as applicable), dealer within 12 months of when owner notifications were issued. the safety recall is expected to begin early december 2010. isuzu owners may contact isuzu at 1-800-255-6727. honda owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009.
NotesOwners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov .

Defect SummaryVehicle description: sport utility vehicles. paint was applied unevenly on the rear axles, resulting in insufficient paint hardness. should this occur on the surface that contacts the rear axle lower link bracket bolt head and/or nut, the nut may loosen.
Consequence SummaryThe bolt could detach fully, causing separation of the lower link from the rear axle, increasing the risk of loss of vehicle control.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the rear axle lower link joint nut and bolt.
NotesOwner notification is expected to begin during march 2000. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact isuzu at 1-800-643-4070, ext. 343.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

During preliminary evaluation pe09-030, isuzu motors america, inc (isuzu) noted two primary differences once the rear suspension lower link separation occurs between the alleged defect (separation of the lower link from the frame) of this investigation and a safety defect involving lower link separation from the rear axle addressed by isuzu in safety recall 00v-058.in the case of the defect condition identified in recall 00v-058, isuzu stated that the attachment bolt could detach fully, causing separation of the lower link from the rear axle possibly creating a loss of vehicle control. isuzu also stated that this condition occurs early in the service life of the vehicle.in this investigation isuzu noted lower link separation from the frame is a progressive corrosion issue with prior warning to consumers.isuzu also stated that in the event of a lower link separation from the frame, the vehicle is still controllable and can be safely stopped. the office of defect investigation (odi) analyzed complaint data provided by isuzu and america honda motor company, inc (honda), as well as vehicle owner questionnaires submitted to odi from consumers.in total, there were 60 unique reports of lower link separations from the frame including 1 alleged crash and 7 loss of vehicle control incidents that may be related to the alleged defect.most of these complaints indicated that there was no warning prior to the link separation.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea09-018) to further assess the scope, frequency and risk to motor vehicle safety of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.

My local las vegas honda dealership inspected my vehicle for a recall related to: the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link may experience excessive corrosion. the honda dealership replaced no parts, and simply treated the area with an anti-corrosive compound. three weeks later, my auto mechanic told me the vehicle is unsafe for driving due to the frame having rotted away entirely in places. he was able to poke holes in the remaining frame with his finger because the steel was rusted through so badly. my mechanic indicated that i should have the vehicle towed to the junkyard immediately. however, the engine, drive train, interior, and body are all in good or excellent condition. this is clearly defective and/or inferior the frame materials used by honda. my dealership sent me on the highway with a clearly unsafe vehicle!

There was a recall on the corrosion of the lower trailing link frame brackets.the recall was done on 9/13/2011. we took the suv to our mechanic to have new tires installed and he informed us that the bracket that holds the spring was gone and the other one was going due to corrosion. the honda dealer that did the recall never informed us of this problem even though our mechanic said they should have spotted it.. the driver side spring in the back is resting on the body and could have resulted in a accident if it moved. i have talked to the honda co.awaiting results.

Noticed that fuel gauge is not working properly because it went empty even though i have a tank full of gas. i did some internet research and found out that this is related to a defective 'fuel sending unit'. it affects honda passports and isuzu rodeo vehicles . my suv honda passport fuel gauge is not working due to bad float chamber on the pump component has manufacturing defects. my fuel gauge has started fluctuating wildly. the most common thing though, is that it reads out of gas shortly after a fill up. this is the same model as an isuzu rodeo and the problems are duplicated there. i want to make sure a recall happens and that it covers the hondas as well.

The vehicle starts vibrating and shimmeing at about 60 mph. it feels similar to a tire being out of balance or like the vehicle is out of alignment. the dealer and manufacturer has installed new wheels, new tires, new suspension but the shimmieing has been worst than day one! the dealership says so it shimmie's so what? the manufacturer says according to our dealer, the car is ok, so you do not have any case. we have done all we can. it seems to me like the car would be a danger to drive in hazardous winter conditions if it shimmies this bad. the car is so bad that the dealership sales manager offered me to buy it back as a low value trade-in car as a favor to me. the same dealership's service department is calling this car to be in good condition. the car has been with dealership and manufacturer for about 7 times so far. they both refuse to even take a look at the problem any more. what can i do now for the lemon? please help.

The vehicle has a constant vibration that increases with speed. it feels similar to a tire being out of balance. the vehicle has been to the dealership several times. they sent the vehicle to ntb and i took it to the firestone/bridgestone dealer. three sets of new tires have been on the vehicle and two sets of wheels. so far that has not fixed the problem. i am concerned that the vibration is a defect in an axle or some other area of the vehicle and i am concerned about my safety when driving the vehicle.( dot number: y7mt tire size: p245/70r16 )

Driving approx 45 miles per hr. passport suddenly pulled us into the left lane. we were able to get back into correct lane and pull vehicle over. drove directly to our mechanic at approx 20 miles per hr. for about 2 miles. he looked under the vehicle and said trailing head was broke from frame and frame was rusted. the vehicle is sitting in my drive unable to drive. both sides are broke at trailing head and rusted so bad you can push and break a hole in the frame. the frame is the only rust on the vehicle. we were lucky there was no traffic coming towards us and that we were not going very fast. there was no prior notice, all of a sudden the car veered left into the other lane and it was hard to get it controlled and into the correct lane and pulled over. *tr

Frame rust around around the spot where rear control arm is attached to frame. it is completly rusted thru. the part is still attached to the frame, but the frame itself has rusted through on either side and has seperated from the vehicle. i heard some clicking noises and stopped vehicle to check it, and found the part totally seperated from the vehicle frame, and proceeded to call a tow truck.

Consumer complained of an unusual noise coming from the back trunk, dealer informed that after recall 00v058 was complete, the noise would be gone, after recall repair, the noise was still in the back and the only way that it would disappear is when the upper tail gate glass was open. *slc

Car & steering wheel vibrate & shake so hard it tends to put my hands & arms to sleep. honda does not consider this a safety issue. the car has been in the shop seven times to address this problem; they have only made the problem worse. now honda expects me to drive the car 45 more days while waiting for a master mechanic to find the time to work on the car. this is totally unacceptable, i do not feel safe or have confidence in this car. i have filed a bbb report and contacted a lawyer. it is also my understanding honda/rodeo made over 30 changes in the suspension system of the 2000 models. *ak
