Bike was purchased new and the speedomoter reads approx 10% higher than actual speed. concerning myself with calculating speed while driving at highway speeds is a distraction. cars constantly passing and discourteous as most often than not i am not maintaining an accurate posted highway speed. some drivers have passed and cut in front in rage posing a serious danger to me and my passenger. speed has been confirmed with a gps. inquiries to my dealer, honda and internet based clubs or message boards have produced the same assessment. dealer have stated that this is a normal condition in motorcycles...i own several cards both older and a 2005 and these are as accurate as they state to be. products also exist on the market that can be purchased to correct a well known issue - referred to as speedo healers.

I have verified that my speedometer is off by at least 10% by using radar and a gps. since this is on a motorcycle and there are enough dangers riding i feel that this puts me in that much more danger due to the fact that i have to look down at the speedometer, then take that number and calculate my actual speed. i have been in contact with other owners of this make of motorcycle and they also have confirmed this same problem. *jb

Since the day i bought the bike, the speedometer has read high by about 10% (checked by gps). if the speedometer reads 60mph, i am actually going about 54mph. doing the calculations in my head to get an accurate speed reading are a distraction and take my concentration off the road. when i first got the bike, that speedometer put me in a bad spot with cars passing me at thier normal to higher speeds while i was under the speed limit. a bad and dangeous combination that could lead to a crash with injuries or fatalities. there should be a recall. letters to honda have been ineffective.*ak

The inaccurate speedometer on my brand new 2004 honda vtx 1300 causes traffic problems. i don't know my true speed which either causes people to tailgate me, pass unsafely or just plain piss them off. so i go faster than the speed limit according to my speedometer which pisses off my wife, and my kids who ride with me alot see this and get the wrong idea. you can not explain speedometer error to a child they see speed limit signs of 55 and then see daddy going 65-70. what kind of message is that. the dealer told me that all bikes are off 5-8 percent. every car i own is accurate, why should this bike be?*ak
