Engine light came on during emission testing, which caused the vehicle to fail. just had the thermostat and evaporator valve replaced the week before. the emissions department stated that it was a code p0300, misfire in cylinder 1. i took the vehicle for diagnostics and after a coil test and compression test (failed), they stated that is was a cylinder valve leakage. they also stated that there was a bulletin out on 2006 h3 for this issue. when i contacted gm customer service, i was told that the vehicle's vin was not a part of this bulletin and that the mileage was past the warranty. the only thing they could suggest to me is to take it to a gm certified repair facility and i would have to pay for the complete repair myself.

The check engine light goes off and on intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the engine head cylinder. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and denied assistance with the repair because the vehicle warranty was expired. the mechanic stated it was due to an inferior soft metal used to manufacture the heads which caused a loss of combustion when the engine was idling. the blowback at idle was what was causing the engine light to illuminate. mechanic also stated this problem was a recurring problem in this 5cyl engine which is the same engine that is in the colorado pickups and is covered under a gm recall in the pickups but not the hummer. the mechanic stated that the issue will only get worst. please help as i was given a price to repair of approx. $4000 if i was going to pay for the repairs myself at the dealership.

While driving received check engine code for #5 cylinder misfire. took it straight into the local gm dealer who informed me the head was already replaced at 16k miles and now another head is needed. gm is not willing to cover any cost as the 2006 does not have a power train warranty included. so contacted hummer customer care line and still waiting on word what will be done.

I recently purchased a 2006 h3. from the day i bought the car i have noticed a weird idle when the vehicle is warming up. until recently i thought it was the way the vehicle ran normally. i decided to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic. after being inspected the mechanic noticed the vehicle's valves were not seeded right from the factory, which has caused the misfire, which causes the weird idle. i now am in the process of contacting hummer to see if there is a solution to the problem. the vehicle has only 61870 miles on it and i don't feel this should have happened this soon in the vehicles life. service bulletins have been warranted and i would like to find a reasonable solution to the problem. *tr

I have a 2006 hummer h3 with a little over 15,000 miles on it. there is an issue of bad cylinder heads in these 3.5l i5 engines and gm has not stepped up to the plate for a recall. another cylinder head has been ordered for my vehicle and will be fixed under warranty. what happens when my warranty runs out a year from now. i am not crazy about a dealer tearing down my engine at this point. it has not been broken in yet. i think the whole engine should be replaced. i feel gm knew of this all along and built these suv's anyway with the hopes that the motors will last until the warranty has expired. *tr

Purchased a 2006 hummer h3 from the seller in this complaint. i paid exactly $23,250 all cash for this vehicle. he actually drove the vehicle to new jersey from mass. to my residence. the vehicle appeared to be in excellent condition, as it only had 14k miles when i bought it only 3-month's ago. one would hardly think of hidden issues at that mileage. in any event, i have had repairs to the rear and front differential, as it had a leak and the front end was out of alignment. the most disturbing thing was this seller lied to me and misrepresented the true or actual condition of the vehicle. unfortunately which would surface after he left with my $23,250 in cash! i would e-mail the seller and told him he misrepresented himself and the condition of the vehicle and how he apparently abused it. more importantly, i discovered excessive rust underneath this vehicle. because these conditions were not divulged to me by mr. johnson, i am having a hard time selling the vehicle that practically cleaned out all of my savings. he claimed this truck was garaged kept and that he did no off road riding. this apparently is totally untrue, as the car would not have as much rust as it is loaded with for a 2006! so, can you tell me what recourse, i may have as a the buyer, besides hiring a private attorney who i can't afford, as i am on permanent disability. there must i something my i can pursue under any state or federal consumer laws, especially, since the vehicle is still under warranty by general motors.. i should also add that i am having difficulty with a local hummer dealer royal hummer in florham park, who seemed reluctant to address the many issues i am having with this hummer! i would also appreciate if you can forward this complaint to general motors corporation, in michigan, as they should know i am having difficulty with dealers wanting to honor,as they should, any warranty work! i am prepared to file every complaint i could to get restitution for this apparent. *tr

I purchased my 2006 hummer h3 in february 2006. after driving it for approximately 5k miles, the check engine light came on and the vehicle felt like it was losing power. i immediately took it to the hummer/gm dealer. i was told that the engine cylinder heads needed to be replaced and that there was a problem in the manufacturing process. i was in shock that i had that problem with a new vehicle and i requested that i get a new replacement vehicle because i did not want the lemon they sold me with a defective engine. i was assured i had nothing to worry about and that the vehicle would be repaired (under warranty of course) and i would not have the problem again. in november 2010, months after my warranty had expired, my vehicle had the same problem. in fact, it is at the dealer now and i still do not know how much it will cost me to repairt it. the only reason it may be repaired at no cost to me is because i paid $2650 for an extended warranty from an outside company (which expires soon). however, my extended warranty company still needs to determine if it will cover the repairs. i did my research and found that many (too many) 2006 h3s have had the same problem with the engine and it is a manufacturing problem that gm is very aware of. however, despite numeorus complaints, gm refuses to take care of the problem or issue any bulletin. this is a huge safety issue. if the engine misfires and my vehicle breaks down, it can easily cause an accident and/or rollover, and very well cost me my life and the lives of others. gm needs to recall these vehicles and issue a safety bulletin, and replace all affected vehicles.

Called by customer complaint of rough idle and misfire. vehicle is a 2006 hummer h3 with the l52 i-5 cylinder engine. mileage is 77675 diagnosis revealed cylinder #5 was bad. further testing revealed water in the oil. final diagnosis blown head gasket. this is a reoccurring problem with this engine and vehicle. dealer refused to repair though it is the same engine gm issued a technical bulletin calling for changing heads on the colorado.
02/24/201060000
 1. during normal driving and idleing i started seeing / hearing the engine misfire and illumination of the service engine soon (ses) i would experience abrupt loss of power or surging or idle roughness. after research and dealer diagnosis we found the early hummer h3 has the same atlas l52 i-5 engine as the 04-05 chevrolet colorado. the 04-05 cheverolet colorado atlas l52 i-5 engine was given a special coverage for soft engine intake valve seats, extended the warranty to 7 years and 100,000 miles under tsb 07123 nhtsa # 10022722. to fix the problem the head is replaced with one with harder valve seats. the 2006 hummer h3 should also be covered by this bulletin. gm has refused to cover my h3 with this problem even though it has the same engine simply because nhtsa # 10022722 does not specifically say hummer h3. my gm case # 71-805764673.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 hummer h3. while idling at a stop light, the accelerator pedal automatically extended to the floor and the vehicle sped forward. the contact had to depress the brake pedal with both feet to prevent crashing into the preceding vehicle. the vehicle then went into limp mode and would not exceed 20 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body assembly. the dealer stated that this was a common failure with these vehicles caused by a manufacturer defect. general motors acknowledged the failure and stated that they were replacing the unit with a different part that they believed would eliminate the failure. the replacement would be at the contact's expense. the manufacturer stated that they have not considered issuing a recall because they are repairing the defect as it occurs. the failure and current mileages were 20,800.

Dt*: the contact stated while idling at an intersection, the check engine light illuminated and on star was called. there was an advisory to drive the vehicle slowly to the nearest dealer. diagnostic testing was performed and they determined a cylinder was leaking and the head and valve needed to be replaced. 12,000 miles after the first repair, the identical scenario recurred. when the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they determined the diagnostic code was the same as the previous visit. another cylinder was leaking and it needed a head and valve job again. the service manager expressed the reason for the recurrence was due to the design of the head which was installed when the vehicle was manufactured and during the replacement. the manufacturer was contacted, and determined that there was now a new part for replacement. the contact was concerned that the original part and the new part had the same part number. *nm
