| Tl-the contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. while driving 15 mph the driver side sun visor broke and fell on the steering wheel causing him to pull off the road. the dealer was contacted and inform him he has to purchase the entire sun visor including the bracket at a cost of $55. the manufacturer was contacted and informed him he would have to purchase the entire sun visor at a cost of $55. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000...mw | |||

| 2001 hyundai elantra gls -- one month ago (january 2007) the airbag light on the dashboard commenced slowly, dimly appearing then slowly fading out in one continuous cycle of several seconds. the condition repeats as long as the ignition is switched on. i noticed hyundai's recall of the 2001 hyundai elantra for exactly that problem and took the vehicle to the local dealership for repair. evidently, the condition is caused by one-or-more faulty airbag sensors. the result, according to the recall information, is that one or more airbags may not deploy when activated. the dealer entered my vehicle's vin, told me that my vehicle was not covered by the recall and refused to replace the sensors without charge. because of the exorbitant cost of replacement, please ask hyundai to include my vehicle in the recall and/or mail me a letter of credit that i can give to the dealer to have this condition repaired. accordingly, i must continue to drive the vehicle in this condition until i hear from you and/or hyundai, here concerned. otherwise, last june, 2006, both sun visor retaining brackets (holding the visor to the roof) cracked about a month apart, rendering the sun visors useless, in that the placement of the visor cannot be controlled. . .it simply drops and hangs when released from the retainer. my driver's side bracket broke just at the most inopportune moment, when the sun was shining directly into my eyes at a level just above the top of the steering wheel. i feel fortunate to have been on a lightly traveled road at the time, such that i pulled over onto the shoulder for a few minutes until the sun rose a bit higher in the sky. those brackets should last longer than this; likewise, the airbag sensors should last longer than this. *jb abl.pco | |||

| The ball joints cracked which caused the front left tire to become detached from the vehicle while driving approximately 70 mph on the freeway. the consumer contacted the manufacturer but they have not done anything about the issue. *ak the vehicle's tcm/ecm software failed which caused the transmission to slip/surge while driving. the vehicle would not go into reverse due to an internal failure. the dealer replaced the a/t assembly and flushed the a/t fluid. the left sunvisor was coming apart. the visor clips broke and as a result they could not hold the visor in a stable position. seat belt bolt cover broke. the passenger side door lock was hard for the passenger to unlock from the driver's side. the dealer replaced the door latch and actuator assembly. the vehicle's heater took about an hour to effectively warm the vehicle. the dealer determined that the blend door was loose at the actuator. *nm | |||

| When the consumer rolled down the windows, they failed to come back up, the consumer was informed the wiring harness from the window regulator was bad, and there was extensive electrical wiring damage which had corroded over time. *ph also the rear defroster was inoperative. *jb. the consumer also noticed the dash lights no longer worked and the headlights did not flash when the door was locked with the key pad.*jb | |||

| Tl* the contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. the contact stated when driving 65 mph the vehicle will shift on it's own to 1st gear, and sometimes the vehicle will stay in 1st gear. the driver stated the vehicle will also shift it's self into neutral and the vehicle will also begin to accelerate on it's own. he had to pull over and turn the vehicle off and then back on. the contact stated the power windows and the windshield wipers are not operating properly as well. the contact stated he had contacted the dealer and they stated that none of these issues are covered under the warranty and he would have to pay out of pocket. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 55,000. | |||

| Within the space of one month all 4 of my power windows stopped functioning. 1st the driver's side window, then a week later the passenger side, followed shortly thereafter by both rear windows. my mechanic said that this is a known issue with the elantra, and i found service bulletin number: 0490010-nhtsa item number 10007954-power window regulator motor. i just wonder why there hasn't been a recall...each motor is very expensive, almost $300...it will cost me over $1200 to repair all 4 motors. *jb | |||

| It is back at earnhardts, for the elec. system again 4th time. it started in 3/02 and went out again last fri. 6/6/03 but they don't consider it a problem. because i filed a lemon law on the previous accent and replaced it with the elantra 2001 and i filled out a survey saying they had bad customer service, the normal use of a rental while they fixed it for days was not granted. i am so upset i spent a day out in the az sun waiting for a tow of 205 miles to the next dealership and they tell me i have a bad record with them and don't deserve the courtesy of a rental car. this is my second hyndai and i have had nothing but trouble with it and the dealership. i have sent letters to the attorney general, three on my side, hyndai and earnhardts dealership. i want out of this car and don't feel safe in it any more. i was going down the salt river canyon (if you are not from az picture going down the twisting road to the grand canyon) without any power steering, brakes and trying to keep control of the car with kids in it. and they tell me i shouldn't be excited! 1 1/2 hrs in the sun waiting for the tow, the next dealership 200 mi away, no rental cars authorized, so my husband has to drive up and get me (198) miles from my house and go back so he could be at work in 3 hrs. no sleep for him. the dates are 3, 4, 6 of 2002 and now 6/6/03. the mileage is 27,694. the cost is theirs because it has the 100,000 warranty. just the mental and physical anguish and inconvience of another car that won't work right now. | |||

| I have had some electrical problems from the day i purchased the car. tried to resolve these with hyundai but they said unless they were currnetly happening when the car was brought in there was nothing they could do about it. the mirror will sometimes move on its own and sometimes the electrical in the car will all go on without the car being on. the malfunciton light lights up here and there also. also i have a problem with my front end suspention being very shakey and my brakes shake when stopping at higher speeds. i have only had the car a year. one more problem that it has is a major bolt in the front suspention went bad a month after i bought the car and so the dealer fixed that but they said it came off the assembly line that way. the electrical problems started a month after purchase. i bought the car new. i hate my car.*ak | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2001 hyundai elantra. the contact stated that the vehicle will either not accelerate or not accelerate as expected when the accelerator pedal is depressed. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the transmission pressure control solenoid valve seals failed. they replaced the transmission and several months later the failure recurred. the manufacturer stated that because the vehicle exceeded its warranty, they would not assist. the failure mileage was 94,000 and current mileage was 97,000. updated 03-30-09 *bf the windshield wiper was inopertaive. updated 03/31/09.*jb | |||
