By letter dated april 15, 2009, hyundai notified the agency that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 09v122) to replace the stop lamp switches on many of its model year 2005-2008 vehicles.see recall 09v122 for a complete list. the agency opened its investigation based on five complaints of stop lamp failure across several 2007 hyundai models. the agency also received early warning (ewr) reports on this issue.most of those failures were traced to the improper operation of the stop lamp switch that controls stop lamp illumination.a malfunctioning stop lamp switch can cause the vehicle's brake lights not to light during braking, or alternatively, it can cause the brake lights to stay lit even when a driver takes the foot off the brake pedal. failure of the stop lamps to illuminate properly creates the hazard of rear end collisions when drivers following the subject vehicle do not recognize that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. hyundai reported one crash incident (a frontal impact), without injury, that was alleged to have been caused by this defect.the agency reviewed the incident and cannot conclude that it is related to this defect. there are other potential problems related to failure of the stop lamp switch: failure of the cruise control to disengage, interference with proper functioning of antilock brakes and electronic stability control, and inability to move the gear shift lever out of park position.based on the above safety recall, this investigation is closed.

When driving the car it unexpectantly does not allow acceleration to occur. the car stalled while pulling out into traffic causing a near accident. had to turn off the car and restart it.

We were recently driving on the high way, when the esc off and check engine light came on. my engine was was still on, but i lost acceleration and had to pull over and restart the van. i had to do this three times before the esc off light turned off and i regained the ability to accelerate. for the last two weeks every morning i will start the van and the same problem happens, i have to leave the van on for a few minutes and then turn it off and on again multiple times before the esc off lights turns off and i regain acceleration. this is dangerous since we're now afraid to drive on the high way and lose power.

My wife and i recently took a 5,000 mile road trip. the first 4,000 miles we had no problems. however, when we were about 900 miles from home, we started having problems. we got ready to leave the hotel one morning and the esc off light was on as well as the check engine light. you could floor the gas pedal, but only got 1,000 rpm's. the engine would run, but it had no power. i turned it off to go check it out, and when i came back the esc light was gone, but the check engine light remained on the rest of the way home. the first day this happened, we got to 250 before it went into coast. after that, we could only drive about 70+ miles before it would start coasting again and we would have to find a place to pull off the road, turn the engine off and then restart it. it would run another 70+ miles and would do it all over again. the tms light would come on intermittently as well. at one point, i called our local dealer and he stated that it would be ok to drive it home in this condition. the main problem was in big cities (finding a place to pull over with the traffic) also, there was a lot of road construction with one lane traffic and nowhere to pull off. you can imagine the stress we were under. the reason for this letter, is mainly to make you aware of the problem. needless to say, it could have been tragic. but, we were definitely lucky and were always able to pull over out of traffic going 75 mph. updated 10/20/11 *bf

Electrical problems, with my 2007 hyundai entourage, day one the battery had to be replaced, then at 39,000 plus miles, the power door on the left side quit working,it was bad about re-opening after being shut.then when it was returned another problem was created ,the first time my wife locked the doors the door lock notification horn was very faint.they reordered a new horn ,no change.the ex-service manager said thats the way it should sound.my wife and i and children, family members all said it sounded strange.we didn't make a big deal out of a horn sound.then the battery again went bad,had to be replaced.at 76,000 plus miles both power doors quit working,i asked for a quote, and to keep all replaced parts.the quote was given, the parts weren't given to me.i was told they were to be sent back as a warrenty.two power door motors and a modual, all went bad at one time.when these doors quit working,no child can open them from the inside.three -four days later after this repair a light comes on saying esc off and engine light comes on.i reserched recalls on google and it said there was a recall on the adjustable brake petal and switch.the dealership and hyundai of usa both deny that it was a recall.i am afraid this van is dangerous at this time.
