I have several complaints regarding this vehicle. i have had this car two years and about two months and have had nothing but problems (purchased brand new) -- i've had to get a new motor (engine caught on fire (electrical/smoking) while driving down the beltway), replaced tire rod, need 4 brand new tires, transmission slipping, and other electrical problems with cooling/heating system (the blower does not work for air pointed in the floor direction), strong smell of gas fumes inside of the vehicle. the gas mileage gauge is inaccurate -- i get no where near the highway nor city miles. the gas meter is not registering. parts on the electrical system have been randomly replaced. i have had all schedule services on my vehicle as well as extras such as special replacement filters, etc. i have also had problems with the breaking system. i believe i've purchased a complete lemon. the current mileage on the vehicle is 27700 miles. there is no way i should be having this many problems as frequently as i have been having. the car's steering pulls to the left as well. i should not have to replace tires only after two years of driving after putting nitrogen as advised. i've noticed a noise when turning the steering to the left as well as if the left tire rod or axle wants to break -- weird feeling turn the car. the alarm system is failing to lock all of the doors -- only the drivers door. -- dealers solution...purchase a new one ??? really?

I was driving at the freeway speed limit, i did not feel anything when it happened but i know that it happened on the freeway. i pulled over to get some gas, looked back near the gas cap and saw that my driver's side tailight assembly was hanging by the wires onto my bumper. when it fell out, it bounced and placed several dings and chips in the plastic bumper. i noticed that the wheels(cogs) inside the tailight assembly were completely broken off. i had to take the light out and place it in my trunk and drive the rest of the two hundred miles with no left tail light or turn signal. if it had fallen into the middle of the freeway, i am sure there would have been much more to write about and none of it good! *tr

I was approaching an intersection that had a red light and stopped vehicles. i began to apply the brakes and slow down to under 10 mph. the car would not come to a stop. i had the brake pedal pressed as hard as i could and it did not stop. i did a google search on hyundai sonata 2011 brake problems and got 598,000 results. in a brief scan through those results i found 7 other reports of the exact same problem. this demands someone look into this now! i copied those web posting if you want them let me know! *tr

I have had recurring problems with the keyless ignition. the car frequently does not start or will not turn off. i have had it repaired three times. i believe that there is a design defect. the service department at the dealership told me it is with all 2011 hyundai sonatas and i should just get a new car. i am filing a complaint with bbb autoline (call 800-633-5151) and my state consumer protection department in the state attorney general's office. i am also thinking of taking them to court (my family member is an attorney). if anyone else has this problem, please file complaints everywhere you can. start by opening a case with hyundai (call 800-633-5151). then file a complaint with the bbb. then file a complaint here and with your state consumer protection agency. just because it is not causing injury does not mean it does not merit a recall of the vehicle. *tr

I have had my vehicle in for service 5 times for the same issue, it would not start. the first 3 times a sensor switch was replaced. the fourth time i was told my battery was the issue so i got a new battery. today was the fifth time and the service dept indicated they could not find anything wrong but they went ahead and replaced the sensor switch again. i am not happy, i feel that i cannot depend on my vehicle. i am planning an out of town trip for thanksgiving and have resorted to renting a vehicle because i am paranoid about being stranded on the road with this issue. i paid alot of money for this vehicle and this just is not right. i am considering trading it in for a vehicle that starts the traditional way (with a key). *tr

Elec stability control lite on after starting car. failed to start one time. dealer investigated. found part # 93810-3s000 (switch assm stop lamp) defective. replaced switch. i checked the internet for this part number and found a significant number of failures of this switch. this switch can fail at anytime, causing loss of power and other symptoms. i sent this same message to hyundai consumers affairs. this switch must be marginally functional for it's purpose due the number of failures noted on the internet. hopefully, hyundai will take action on this switch. thanks in advance for your prompt attention to this matter. *tr

This is the third time that i have gone to start the car and it failed to start because of a defective brake pedal sensor. the sensor has been replaced twice now. the second incident did not leave any codes for the dealership to find a problem due to the battery being disconnected. this appears to be a known problem for this model. *tr

My skid light warning light kept coming on. they said a brake lamp switch was pulling a fault code, so they replaced it. nine months later my skid light warning was randomly coming on again. they ran a test again saying it was a faulty brake lamp switch again. before i could get it in for repairs the transmission range sensor malfunction on aug 14 2012. picked up my car again and the skid traction warning light came on again. i took it in again this time the tcs light was on and the shifter was not releasing.they tested the brake switch circuit and found no power to the brake switch. they replaced the fuse box and harness cable. i have called three different dealerships service departments and they all say there is a problem with the brake lamp switch causing the tcs warning light to come on. if it is effecting other cars there most be a national problem and should be a recall before there is a fatality. i have had this car for 2 years now and had it in for electrical problems over eight times. ## vin passed ## hyundai sonata 2011 ## *tr

Vehicle engine was shut off in a construction zone, waiting for line to move. engine (push button start) would not engage, thus causing major traffic issues. everything done according to manual trying to get starter to engage. engine starter finally engaged after setting for sometime. this is the third occurrence of this same problem. suspect linkage between brake sensor and start button. could be a serious safety issue. *tr

The engine failed to start. when you press on the start pedal, it locks up and does not recognize the key fob in the vehicle. the dealer said the brake switch needed to be replaced. this happened in june 2011 and now again in july 2012. it looks as if i will have to take it in every year for the same problem. the esc electronic stability control light comes on also during this issue perhaps the 2 go hand in hand. this is totally unacceptable after i paid 25k for this vehicle. no more hyundais for me at least not in my lifetime!! *tr

3x the driver window button is inoperable. would turn off car and then it would again work. the worst issue is this: started up car this morning 7-9-12 (this is the 3rd occurrence) and the doors do not lock, then i put it in reverse and it goes about 2 feet and it applies the brakes. i noticed each time the gear console does not light up. the car actually does not go into gear. each time i have turned off the ignition and restarted it and it works fine. it's going to the shop for the 30k check up and this will be brought up. the drivers window has been brought up and the dealer has said there was no problem. wrong. there is when it doesn't work. i had one of these in 2001 and it too had electrical issues. my neighbor just sold their 05 sonata due to electrical issues. *tr

06/23/201215100
Car will randomly not start after parking it. depress brake pedal through the floor, press start button, yet it says press down brake pedal to start. this is the third time in three weeks. the first time i got it started after ~30 minutes. second time, within ~ 5 - 10 minutes. this third time, i couldn't get it started. had to call for a ride. went back next day, tried again unsuccessfully for ~ 30 minutes. called roadside assistance. they never came. after ~1:45 minutes, i tried one more time and got it to start. each time, the steering wheel was turned strongly to the left and it felt locked. each time i was eventually able to yank the steering wheel to the right and was able to get it to release. felt like the hydraulics kicked in. then, it would start each time. this didn't happen the first time i messed with the steering wheel ....but each time i was able to eventually make it do it. until then, it had that locked feeling of no hydraulics. other than this, no brake issues, no steering issues, no lights on dash, etc. one exception, first time coming down a hill, i had had the esc (brake) light come on briefly. very similar to other reports on this website.

This is the second time that we have been unable to start our 2011 hyundai sonata se. the first incident occured less than 1 year ago and was determined by our local hyudnai dealer to be a faulty brake lamp switch. the part was replaced and we were told that this has been a problem with other 2011 sonatas, which is why the part is in stock. the new part was not supposed to cause the same problem to reoccur-but it has! the vehicle is at the dealer as i file this complaint and the brake lamp switch is again at fault. i have found numerous complaints on line by other owners that had and are having the exact same problem. this seem to be a widespread defect and needs to be addressed immediately! this is my wife's car and we are very concerned with her safety and the vehicle's questionable reliability!

Driving at 40 mph and lost power. car came to stop in middle of road and check charging system warning light came on. tried several times and finally restarted. continued about a block then it happened again. got it started, drove a little further and it happened again. got the car home and called hyundai service to have car towed to dealer.

The engine failed to start. when you press on the start pedal, it would lock up and not recognize the automatic key in the vehicle. took it to a dealer who said the brake switch needed replacing. now, at the end of april, again, it is happening. it is going in again this week for the same situation. also at the same time the esc electronic stability control light goes on randomly and stays on until the engine is restarted. i used the override procedure someone else mentioned to get the car going -- depress and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds. even once the engine started, the gear shift remained stuck in park and took awhile to take it out of this position. when i was idling in park today, the same thing happened which told me the situation was getting worse.
04/15/201217900
While driving my car a check charging system display appeared on the dashboard. the car turned off as i exited the highway and i had to pull over on the right shoulder. it later started again but shut down after slowing down for traffic on the highway. when attempting to restart the car it would jerk until reaching speeds above 30-40 mph.

The 2011 sonata is unable to start by pressing down on both the brake pedal and start button. i had this problem for over 3 months. this failure happens about 1-2 times a week. once failed to start, the brake pedal locked up while the dashboard display still says press down brake pedal to start. with repeated tries to start the car, it sometimes started after 5-10 minutes, but sometimes it took over 1 hours to start the engine. hyundai dealership said they cannot help because the problem cannot be reproduced when they service the car. it is a rather new car but very unreliable.

Add on to odi # 10440320 i was driving and twice when i tried to stop to make a turn the engine kept overriding the break and the car kept lurching ahead. i applied the break peddle as hard as i could and the car would not stop. when i released the break peddle, the car started acting normal again. by this time i was way over the center line of the road and if there had been another car at the intersection i would have certainty hit them. this is the second and third time this has happened with this car and i believe it should be taken off the road before someone get killed. if i was pulling up behind another car at a stop sign and this happened i would rear end the car in front. if i was stopping at a pedestrian crossing and this hapened i could run someone over and kill them.

I have experienced this problem 3 times, my 2011 hyundai sonata limited failed to start. i like many others had my foot on the brake and hit the start button as i usually do and nothing happened but the dashboard indicator kept reading press on brake pedal and push button to start i repeatedly tried over and over. after 15-20 failed attempts i pulled out my manual, no work arounds. i then called the dealer, who told me to stomp on the brake hard. i did and after three cycles it started.

The check charging system light appeared the 1st week that we had this new( hyundai 2011 sonata hybrid) car while my wife was driving the car. she lost power to the vehicle and had to stop and restart. i returned it to the dealer that afternoon and they stated that the battery terminal was loose and needed adjustment. the car had about 200+ miles on it. today, november 6, 2011, i was with my wife and she was driving and the check charging system' light again came on with an audible alarm. ( about 400+ miles). we lost power at a traffic light and had to stop and the car was difficult to restart. after checking the hyundai forums, this appears to be a frequent occurrence with numerous drivers around the country. many registered forum users are concerned that this is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately. i am taking the car back to the dealer on monday morning and wanted to have this documented. my wife does not feel safe in this vehicle ( and neither do i at this time).

I have a 2011 sonata that failed to start on three occasions. the first was about 8000 miles the second was at 10800 miles and the third was the next day from the second occasion. this car is less than 1 year old. as i went to start the car as i normally do the press the brake pedal to start would flash even though my foot was on the brake pedal. the first two times i was able to get it to start by repeatedly pressing the brake pedal and pressing the push button start more than 10 times. the third time i had no such luck and called the dealer for service. i noticed that on all 3 occasions that the brake pedal had more than normal pressure and would not depress at all. i assume that there is some sort of switch that tells the car that your foot is on the brake before the push button start will start the car. with the brake pedal not moving at all this switch is probably not being activated so the car does not start.

6,500 miles into vehicle use, vehicle failed to start up while parked. upon entering vehicle, pressing brake pedal, and pushing start on push-button start, screen would display push brake pedal to start vehicle. the vehicle failed to acknowledge brake pedal was being pressed. after 5 minutes of continuously pressing brake pedal down and simultaneously pressing start button, vehicle eventually started. approximately 5 additional failures to start occurred before i brought vehicle in to selling dealer. the dealer diagnosed the problem, which my receipt lists as a a faulty brake lamp switch. technician removed and replaced brake lamp switch. approximately one week after vehicle was fixed, the vehicle failed to start in the same fashion as had previously occurred. i had vehicle towed to dealership. dealership again diagnosed same problem and replaced same part (brake lamp switch) as previously replaced. i have had vehicle for three days since last (second) repair. i will continue to monitor and report if issue appears again.

On the way to work this morning, my sonata hybrid started beeping and check charging system appeared on the dashboard. my car suddenly started losing engine power to the point where my car would not move after the stop light turned green, leaving me stuck in the middle of a huge intersection with people almost hitting me. after restarting my car, it finally started to move, but repeated the same instance at the next stop light. this is a serious safety issue. i had to have my car towed to the dealership because i was not going to risk my safety and life. people need to be aware of this issue because if other vehicles are experiencing the same problem, someone could get into a serious car wreck which could be potentially fatal, if happened on a freeway.

Hyundai sonata hybrid. first problem occurred at approximately 6400 miles. i was driving between 60-65 mph on the freeway. vehicle lost power and alarm sounded. check chargin system light illuminated and the car lost all power to drive, gas engine and hybrid engine shut-off in middle of freeway. was able to make it off freeway. let car come to rest and restarted car. everything seemed normal, drove in parking lot and was close to home. taking to dealership who has not heard of issue.

I drive the hyundai sonata hybrid. the first time the problem occurred at approx 9800 miles, i was driving 60 mph on a highway when the vehicle lost battery power and an alarm sounded, and then a signal indicating to check charging system. i immediately took the vehicle to my hyundai dealership where they were aware of the issue, but did not know how to fix it and suggested i just simply turn off and then restart my car. it happened two additional times, one while approaching a stop light, and another time while i was stopped at a stop light. the last time it happened, i could not get my vehicle to reset by restarting once. i had to shut the vehicle off, then attempted several times to restart. the 4th time i tried to start it, i was able to do so sucessfully. i did notice the last time it happened, the engine light remained on even after battery power was restored. i am taking it back to the dealership tomorrow and demanding a solution. this is just too dangerous to lose power in high-speed traffic, and the problem seems to be occuring at all speeds.
09/25/2011
While driving, a warning alert suddenly sounded with a display advising check charging system. the power system in the car failed. the air conditioning cut off. the acceleration system failed completely and the car cut off all propulsion. i pulled over and had to turn off the ignition. i pushed the start button again and the car appeared to work. i have read online that this is happening to all sonata hybrids.

I am the owner of a 2011 hyundai sonata limited. within the last 2 weels my care has not started on 4 different ocassions. the message screen within the car says press brake to start. it will not allow me to depress the brake peddle. everything in the car as far as lights, radio, and dashboard work fine. i have got stuck at the local mall, the grocery star and at work. i was able to start the car one time by slamming my foot down on the brake really hard. (which i shouldnt have to) the electrical system or brakes definately have an issue. hundreds off other sonata owners are having the same exact issue. nothing has been done to correct this problem. i drive over 100 miles a day and have to have a reliable car. hyundai needs to correct this issue asap.

2011 hyundai sonata hybrid stops loses power comes to complete stop - for the third time in two months when i started my car the service indciator light came on and stayed on. i noticed this time that the car would not go faster than 40 mph and the engine is not running the car appears to be running just off the electric motor and the battery. the car went for about 2 miles and the the car lost power and came to complete stop. i had to completely shut off the car and restart it before it would move again - this is a re-occurring and very dangerous situation

Was pulling on to a road and the engine did not engage, the hybrid system, green ready light began blinking and the yellow sevice with the wrench engine light also came on. i could only get it up to 3 to 5 mphs and the echo gage was up to red pegged out,, we pulled out on a county road that has a speed limit of 45 , a van had to stop ,because we pulled out in front of him, i had no doubt the vehicle would go ,but it did not. we had just drove up a hill that always requires engine ,grade steep, stoped and pulled out . nearly causing an accident..we pulled off road and tried again driving in electrical only mode light blinking we pulled back over and restarted car and everything was fine.. it s a dangerous problem that needs to be addressed ,when i push the peddle it should go !!!!

Upon pu;;ing out from a stop sign the engine stalled, after coasting to a stop and placing in park i tried to restart engine. all lights went off and motor did not turn. attempted again, same thing then passenger compartment filled with smoke. fire dept arrived and determined somewhere in dash a component had fried.they then disconnected battery. vehicle was towed to dealer, per dealer engine locked up and they have to disassemble dash to determine what had fried.

When pulling out of a parking lot from a stop the service light came on and the car's ready light started flashing. the car lost almost all power while i was in the center of the road. other cars were able to avoid me, but they could have easily ran into me. shutting the car off and restarting it restored normal operations.

Have a 2011 hyundai sonata limited and yesterday when attempting to start the car the push button start failed. i had my foot on the brake and hit the button as i always do and nothing. the dashboard kept reading press on brake pedal and push button to start i repeatedly tried over and over. after 15-20 failed attempts i waited a few minutes as i looked up the roadside assistance number. after finding the number i tried one last time and the luckily the car started. i drove home parked it and this morning went out and the car starts. i have scheduled an appointment at the dealership later in the week and hope they get this fixed. from what i read online a lot of people are having the same problem and the attempted dealer fixes have not completely solved the problem. hyundai needs to figure it out and make this right. how can anyone feel comfortable driving this car with the thought they can be stranded at anytime.

Sonata hybrid. driving on the freeway at 60 mph on cruise control. exit ramp with cruise control off and car gliding to stop light in ev mode. stopped at red light for 3-5 seconds. then pushed the accelerator ... the car lost power, would not move, instrument panel lights flashed, audible ding warning sounded. display screen showed check charging system then screen showed to put car in park. i then placed car in park and pushed the ignition button and car had power to drive off the street and out of the flow of traffic. i then looked over the car, no warning lights or sounds. i test drove it in a parking lot to make sure it would not stop again. conditions at time of event: blue driving mode, gas tank level at 1/2, hybrid battery charge at 1/2 radio on, headlights on, air conditioner off, and the outside temp. about 77f. i'm not sure which component failed. electrical, engine or the hybrid power control unit.

2011 hyundai sonata limited with push button start. purchased the car in may 2011. at 1600 miles, the car would not start. brake will not depress in order to start car. dealership replaced brake light sensor part #93810-3s000. at 3200 miles, the same problem occurred. dealership will not acknowledge that there is a problem, since they can not replicate the problem.. this is an obvious reoccurring issue which hyundai needs to recognize and find a definite repair. most consumers do not have the free time to wait numerous hours for service help while attempting to start a new car that should start without flaw. do not purchase a new hyundai sonata. it may look like a luxury car - remember, looks are deceiving.

2011 sonata limited with smart key fob has failed to start a minimum of 7 times in the last 60 days.it appears that sometimes the car does not recognize the smart key and this doesn't change if the smart key is inserted into the center console smart key holder. the batteries have been replaced in the key fob and this does not resolve the problem. when attempting to start the car the computer simply states to depress the brake pedal and push the start button, which i've been doing. the brake pedal often feels hard as a rock almost like it's locked.the normal diagnostic lights and fuel guage does operate but the car doesn't start. i've waited as long as 1/2 hour attempting and re-attempting to start the vehicle. after it starts, the car may work perfectly fine for the next few trips until the problem reappears. this is a worrisome occurence since there is no way to override the smart key fob by inserting an actual key to start the vehicle. drivers may become stuck at any time.

I have a 2011 sonata limited. earlier this year i began having a starting issue where the car would say apply brake pedal to start even though my foot was firmly planted on the brake. took the car in and they couldn't duplicate so i just kept on working around it. in june, it got worse so i took it back, spoke to the service manager at the dealership and they ordered a brake switch and new push button ignition on june 20th or thereabouts. the parts finally arrived on august 17th..yes..it took that long apparently. i dropped the car off that morning and went back that afternoon around 5. i was informed that they had replaced the brake switch and push button but when they went to test drive, they lost steering control and the eps and traction control system had failed. they took a part off a new sonata in their lot and put it on my car but that did not correct the problem. after 2 days of troubleshooting they managed to correct that issue but as soon as they did, the abs light came on and it stated the abs system had failed too. i am now waiting on a part for the abs as of 8/22. none of these systems had issues prior to the drop off date. this concerns me that there may be a serious problem with the electrical system. we will see when they replace the abs module if something else goes wrong.

My 2011 hyundai sonata hybrid check charging system lamp illuminated with chime alarm activation while driving, causing loss of engine power. hybrid battery charge level was at 1/2, which is where it normally is. i pressed on gas pedal and got no response, and vehicle came to a stop as if i applied the parking brake. i placed vehicle in park, shut off engine and re-started it and it ran normally. this is the second time it happened in the past 4 weeks or so. on a hyundai forum website, there is at least 1 other customer which has had the same problem with their hybrid as myself. it is very dangerous situation if you are on the highway and you are forced to stop while in flow of traffic.

Engine can easily become hydro-locked in heavy rain and road splash back from other vehicles due to the design of the direct air intake of the sonata hybrid. with its design, it does not have any water baffles to prevent water from entering the air filter and once it enters the air filter box, there are no drain holes for it to drain out. this forces the water through the engine as that is the only way for it to get out of the filter box. when the engine stalled, no electronic control warning lights were illuminated and the car remained in the

I have owned my 2011 hyundai sonata for one year. on july 15, 2011, i went to start the car and i could not depress the brake or start the car. the acc stuff would come on but no ignition to the motor. i tried and tried to start it and ended up calling the dealership. i was told to kick the brake pedal hard several times; which i did. i finally got it started and drove it to the dealership. i was told brake light switch replaced. left the dealership and drove to my office and when i went to tried to start the car to leave the car would not start, but this time i had to call roadside assistance for the car to be towed back to dealership. dealership told me they replaced brake light switch again. now the traction control light comes on and my brake lights are not working. when i did get it to start the car would not go into any gear; it just was locked in park. well, yesterday, july 20, 2011 the car had to be towed again because of all the same problems. so, the car has been back to the dealership three times within the past five days; two of which the car was towed. i am very concerned about my safety because i believe the brakes have something to do with the air bags not to mention the unknown electrical issues.

I have a 2011 hyundai sonata. i purchased the car in august of 2010. about a month after owning the vehicle, the engine light came on. when i took it to the dealer, they recorded the code and then said it was the ac. i was asked to wait 15 seconds before turning the ac on after starting car. so i did that. about a week later or so later, the light comes on again. take it back twice after this, they record the code and then the switch is replaced. i maintain my car with all maintenance requested and i drive it on the highway. i had the tire light come on a few months later - was told it was the temperature. that eventually went off. next was the engine light yet again. this time it occured after i took the car in on june 17th for an oil change. they told me a recall was on the transmission and they did the recall update. immediately after this update, the car drove terribly. very loud, very rough. about a week after this update, the car breaks down in the parking lot. it has done this now about 5 or 6 times since june (today is july 20th). i take it to the dealer and told i need the engine light on in order to repair. the light needs to come on two or three times before hyundai will replace. the engine light sometimes comes on, sometimes does not, but it is guaranteed to break down. it is most definitely the transmission as it will stall and then hesitate. the lights on the gear shaft go away completely and the dash lights go away so you have no idea if you are in park, reverse, etc. last time my engine light came on, it went back off that night. the problem continues and hyundai can't seem to fix. i read online from a general search on this car that this is a resounding issue across the board with others as well. i am frustrated and something should be done. i called corporate and got nowhere. i continue to get the runaround. they should be investigated before someone dies from their transmission issue/lack of concern for the safety and wellbeing of their drivers.

I initially unlock the vehicle by either depressing the unlock button on the key fob or pressing the unlock button on the outside door handle. once unlocked, i entered the vehicle and attach the seat belt. i place the key fob on the dashboard, depress the brake pedal and press the engine start button. the electrical system will cycle through acc and on mode but the car will not start. a check of the battery system show that the car battery is at full power. this problem occurs intermittently. the only reliable solution for starting the car is to depress the brake pedal and depress the engine start button for a minimum of 10 seconds. i've placed the key fob in several locations in the car (dashboard, cup holder, smart key holder) with no repeatable success. after a visit to a dealership, they cannot find a problem. however, a search on the internet shows several there owners experiencing the same problem.

2011 sonata se. will not start. warning light indicates key not present or press brake to start. when pressing brake, pedal is stiff. tried emergency key reset procedure per owner's manual. no luck. wait 30 minutes, heard relay in dash click, and car returned to normal operation. 3rd time occurred. noticed i had pulled into parking space by truning hard right prior to shut off. also, my wife had opened the passenger door and climbed in prior to the driver's door being opened (possible alarm system problem?) no warning. dealer is stumped. many others have same exact issue. suspect either computer or sensor problem. other possible cause, issue with the alarm system when teh passenger door is opened while car is locked. car waits until after a time reset to initialize the relay again.... milage 13600

For the third time i have gotten in my 2011 hyundai sonata se and it will not start (push to start). the screen will either say the key is not in the vehicle or it will say press brake pedal to start (the key is certainly in the vehicle, how else did i get in with it locked). after repeatedly getting in and out of the car, locking and unlocking pressing the break pads, trying everything and then some for about a half hour the vehicle still will not start. this is the fourth hyundai i have purchased, second brand new and i have never had problems like this before but this is ridiculous. i've taken it to the dealer and they say they have never heard of this happening even though i have found numerous complaints for it online (what sources are they using, google turns up plenty of information). this is the third time i have been stranded in a dark, potentially dangerous area unable to start my brand new car that has already had a recall. i expect more than this.i will drop it off at the dealership again and after that i am going to invoke the lemon law. one recall is bad enough i would at least like to be able to start my vehicle. the battery is fine both in the car and the remote. at 8,000 i should not have any issues!

Tl-the contact leases a 2011 hyundai sonata. the contact stated that after turning the motor off, the key was not able to be extracted from the ignition. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the dealer stated that he had to maneuver the key a certain way. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. the current mileage was approximately 740. the failure mileage was approximately 30-bk

My 2011 sonata has 7600 miles on it. the problem began around 5000 miles, but has gotten progressively worse. upon trying to turn the car off, the engine shuts off, but the key is stuck in the accesory position. i can restart the car and drive, but i can't get the key out. it just stays either in the accesory or the on position. i've had to unhook my battery to keep it from dying because i can't get the key out. at first, i could just move the gearshift out of park and back into park, and that would usually unlock the key. as time went by, the problem went from happening once a week, to once a day, to nearly every single time i drive the car. also, once it started happening more frequently, i couldn't troubleshoot to get the key out. i would just have to wait, sometimes up to two hours, and try again. eventually, the key would just pop right out as if nothing had been wrong in the first place. very frustrating and time consuming. the car is currently at the dealership getting a new ignition. we'll see how it works.

2011 hyundai sonata se 16 days old, 2018 miles: car has an intermittent starting problem. it has left my wife stranded at work 3 times, two of those times in a deserted parking lot after hours, once at the dealer when i was called to pick it up. it has now been out of serivce for 18.5 days since april 26, 2010. it has been taken to the dealer four times since april 26, 2010 and remains there at this time. dealer has confirmed battery is always at full charge, they have changed both starter system relays, replaced the starter, checked transmission neutral postion sensors. safety issue: leaving a female driver in an unsafe and unprotected situation. due to the non starting issue.

Took possession of 2011 kia sorrento on 2-18-2010. since that time there have been 14 instances when the car hesitated almost dying out and then surging forward. at one time it died completely out and had to be restarted while being in the lane of oncoming traffic. twice it hesitated and surged ahead 4 - 5 consecutive times before settling down, once while crossing over a 4 lane highway. it has been back to the kia dealership 3 times and they cannot duplicate the problem, so they claim we do not have a problem. we are very concerned about this and believe it is a safety issue and my wife will not drive the car until this is resolved. updated 03/16/10 *bf *tr
