NotesHyundai dealers are replacing the center rear seat belts in approximately 1,633 sonata hybrid vehicles currently in dealer inventory with center rear seat belts that are not detachable from the lower anchorage point prior to delivery to customers.for the approximately 13,095 vehicles that have been delivered to customers, hyundai motor company intends to file a petition for an exemption from the recall requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act on the basis that the noncompliance described is inconsequential as it relates to motor vehicle safety.therefore, the manufacturer is not obligated to conduct an owner notification and remedy campaign until nhtsa has resolved this petition.if the petition is denied, the manufacturer will be notified and must then undertake its notification and remedy campaign obligations.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2011 hyundai sonata. the contact stated that the passenger side seat belt unlatched from the floor connector while attempting to utilize the seat belt. the contact was able to reattach the seat belt back into the connector. the contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer or call the manufacturer in regards to the failure. the failure mileage was 11,000. kmj

 11 year old passenger sitting in the right rear seat, and was using the seat belt, still suffered injuries due to a frontal crash. person suffered a fractured jaw.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2011 hyundai sonata. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the steering wheel suddenly locked up which caused her to collide into two wooden posts and signs in a grassy area. the brakes would not engage when the contact attempted to stop the vehicle; a hole in the ground stopped the vehicle. the contact also noticed that the seat belt did not tighten to secure her during the incident. there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the contact stated that she previously had the vehicle into the dealership for recall 10v426000 (steering:gear box:shaft sector) on october 8, 2010. the vehicle was at the dealership at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer had not been notified. the current and failure mileages were approximately 4,000-bk
