Approximately one month after purchasing this car new (and less than 1000 miles on odometer), i started experiencing slipping in the clutch with severe lack of acceleration. the dealer replaced the clutch and flywheel under warranty, and state at that time that the had already performed similar repairs on that make/model. now in august, 2012, (65,000 miles) the car has had a similar problem requiring replacement of the clutch and flywheel. extreme lack of acceleration had made the car unsafe on a city street, let alone on a freeway. the mechanic has stated that he has never seen a flywheel scorched this badly. i have been driving standard transmission cars for 30 years, and have never had a transmission problem. *tr

After a couple months of owning my vehicle, my clutch went out. i took it back to the dealer and they told me that it was the way i was driving and that the clutch would not be covered in the warranty because it was a wear and tear issue and not a manufacturing defect. so i had to pay to get a new clutch and flywheel installed. now after about 5 years, my clutch went out again. after this time however, i decided to do some research and was appalled at how this problem has affected so many people. something needs to be done about this.

After i shifted from 1st to 2nd gear, i tried to accelerate but the clutch slipped. when i completely took my foot off the accelerator i felt and heard a mild clunk as it was finally engaged. the rpms were at about 2000 and i was only travelling 5 mph when this first occurred. i continued to shift through the gears with the same symptoms. once engaged after a while, in each gear, i pressed down on the accelerator pedal approximately halfway to see what it would do. the rpms shot up and no power got to the wheels. the clutch slipped immediately. i could not maintain speed going up some hills without the clutch slipping. i am looking in my rear view mirror to make sure i don't get hit from behind. this happens every day but not consistently. i have to shift at a maximum 2,500 rpm for it to not slip. i don't believe the vehicle could maintain any speed above 50 mph without the clutch slipping. there is a progressive groaning since this first started. i can feel it in the pedals and steering wheel as well. nothing is dragging and the fluid level is at manufacturer's recommendations. i have been driving manual transmissions for over 26 years, imports and domestic. i never had a clutch fail before 150,000 miles. there are three ways to avoid an accident; hit the brakes to avoid, steer to avoid, and accelerate to avoid. i have lost 33% of my capability to avoid an accident due to pre-mature failure of the clutch. the owner's manual states ideally, corners should always be taken with gentle acceleration. this is currently impossible because the clutch slips when i try to drive that way, on both left and right hand turns.

Vehicle had premature clutch failure. repair cost 2700. thousands of complaints on identical failures. hyundai refuses to admit there is a problem, despite 2006 lawsuit in california concerning the 2003 models.

I have a 2006 hyundai tiburon v6 5-speed. the manual transmission broke at 49,000 miles - not just the clutch, but all the major components of the transmission. this is a very common problem with this model - there has already been a class action law suit involving this model, but earlier years (03-04 - same car as the 06). hyundai will not fix the problem and has not recalled the vehicles.

I own a 2006 hyundai tiberon bought it brand new it has 22,000 miles on it and the clutch and flywheel are shot. i've been driving standard for 13 years and have never had a problem with a clutch. i'm very disappointed in hyundai for not replacing a bumper to bumper warranty which i have. a car that i've had for 2 years shouldn't have 2300 dollars of work and if it does it should be under warranty. and i am shocked to see the number of hyundai's with the same problem. hopefully something is done about this matter . *tr

At steady 40-mph on level road, a sudden downshift from 4th to 2nd with first effect -- felt like sudden braking and then very fast acceleration as rpm's went from 1500 in 4th to 6000 in 2nd before hitting accelerator pedal stopped the process to return to 4th and normal operations did this several times, very intermittent, starting at, roughly 35,000-miles on odometer and in late 2008 into 2009. *tr

I have a 2006 tiburon and have already had to have it in the shop four times. for the sunroof, which still does not work right and the transmission. now it is starting to be sluggish again. i don't trash my car or hot rod it either. the motor in the sunroof has been replaced. the transmission has just been reprogrammed each time so who knows what will be done this time. *nm

2006 hyundai tiburon se clutch malfunctioning and failure. poor quality and deformed parts used. warranty classifies parts as wear parts. i took my car in for its scheduled maintenance visit to r.c. hyundai in roswell, ga. after 2 days i experienced acceleration issues and went back to r. c. dealership. on duty technician informed me the clutch was the source of the problem and it would cost me 2,000.00+ usd. when i asked why i was told this was covered by warranty during the original sales process ireceived inconclusive answers. after a little internet research i discovered: a class action pending stemming from 03-04 hyundai tiburon's choice of clutch parts (fly wheel to be specific) and numerous post on edmunds car space ( over 5 pages of enraged hyundai tiburon 03-07 owners') hyundai refuses to acknowledge the faulty, deformed and defective parts that make up its clutch and continue charging hard working, honest people 2,000.00 to fix a problem they know exists and will continue to fail. blaming it on how the car is driven is both a shameful business practice and crime against consumers everywhere. *tr

2006 hyundai tiburon clutch failure. we noticed that the clutch was starting to slip. shifter started to get stuck in gear. took to dealership where purchased and was told that it was going to cost 2000.00 to replace the clutch, they also proceed to question me saying that it appears that the car has been raced. we do not race our vehicles. in reading other complaints, this seems to be an on going problem with the standard transmissions in the hyundai's. i am to wonder if this make and model of vehicle should continue on the market. in order for the dealership to uphold the warranty, you have to have the vehicle maintenance done at a hyundai dealership and at the specified mileage. the maintenance is not cheap on this vehicle. our vehicle is at 32,000 miles maintenance was to be done at 30,000 miles, we were unable to afford the almost 600.00 for the maintenance. now they want 2000.00 to replace the clutch and fly wheel. someone really needs to check into the manufacturing of this make and model. *tr

Approximately around 18,500 miles on my purchase-new 2006 hyundai tiburon se, i began to notice some clutch slippage when accelerating from a stand-still. weeks later i had taken my car to the local dealership i purchased the car from to get the oil changed, and a routine inspection. at this time they found a small leak in the transmission, so they put some dye in it and asked me to come back a week later so they can track where it was. a week later i brought my car back and they said they wanted to replace the entire transmission, under warranty. i gave them the okay to do this. during the replacement process the clutch and flywheel was found to have 'hotspots' on it and was recommended to be replaced. i was already aware of possible clutch problems with the car before i purchased it, and was informed by the salesmen that they don't think there will be a problem and i would be taken care of. regardless i was weary because of the many problems described on an online tiburon enthusiast message board (www.newtiburon.com). in which it is suspected poor design of the hydraulic system including but not limited to the slave cylinder valve spring to be the cause of these common, premature clutch failures. due to costs of the replacement parts, and limited time to take further action, i authorized the dealership to replace the clutch and pressure plate only, leaving the current flywheel in the car. this only cost me about $375, since the transmission was already being replaced that dramatically reduced the labor costs. regardless it is still money i had to spend on a part that should not have to be replaced after only 18,500 miles on the car. i can only guess as to if this problem will crop up again, some 15,000+ miles down the road. now at about 20,500 miles i have not had any problems yet, but the day is not over. *tr

On june 11, 2007 at 26,577 miles, i experienced on my way in to work while driving, a slight stick and a definite click sound from my clutch pedal. while at a traffic light i experienced complete clutch failure, the car would not go in to gear. the invoice from the dealership states internal part on master clutch broken-remove and replace master clutch. on october 15, 2007, at 37,500 miles, there began a similar clutch pedal problem, later the rpms of the engine were increasing, however the gears were not engaging fully, another clutch failure in less than six months. after doing some research, i have found that there is not only a class action lawsuit against the hyundai corporation for a defective clutch in the 2003 hyundai tiburon.(us district court orange county, california; case number 06cc00052) i have also found quite a few complaints not only of the clutch, but the hyundai corporations refusal to honor it's own warranty with it's customers. it is in my opinion that this corporation lacks the integrity to monitor itself and i am asking the nhtsa to investigate this problem. *jb

Bought a 2006 tiburon, i drive the car to work and back lightly (no hard acceleration, racing etc). after 9000 miles the clutch suddenly went out, leaving me stranded on the road, needed to be towed into dealership, took 6 days to get the car back on the road, they replaced the entire clutch assembly. dealership repaired under warranty. i'm having other issues with the car including uneven acceleration and high idling. the car isn't even a year old, wouldn't recommend this model to anyone. *jb

I just recently purchased my vehicle. i'm in the military so i put a lot of miles on it driving home all the time. after a month and a half and 5000 miles roughly, my clutch started slipping and then gave out. it was sudden and complete. the tech's at the dealership i took it to stated that my clutch had been severely fried like i was racing it. fortunately they didn't remove my warranty but they did charge me $900 for it. *jb

I have 2006 hyundai tiburon and at 9440 miles i started having clutch problems and was told that this is normal and now the car is not even a year old and has 17000 miles on it and it is in the shop to get a new clutch witch is about 900.00 dollars. this seems to be something that is happening a lot. the warranty is 5 years bumper to bumper. or the clutch is 12000 miles but i see why they just brushed me off at 9440 miles so the could get the money in 2500 more miles. *jb

Car started to have a clutch pedal problem around 5000 miles, so i took it to the dealer and they said it was normal nothing to worry about. then at about 10,000 miles the clutch began slipping so i took it once again to the dealer. they said yep the clutch is pretty worn out it should be replaced but we aren't sure if it will be covered under warranty so they told me i need to authorize the payment for the clutch repair which was $1100. well i am a college student and working to own this car and i didn't have the money to authorize that so i pursued the consumer affairs department and after a bout a month driving the car with the slipping clutch. i got approval to have the clutch inspected at no charge by the dealer they then told me that the clutch is so worn that i looks like it was severely abused and therefore not warrantable and it even seemed as though you were racing your vehicle so we has permanently removed the warranty on this vehicle. so as of today 11/6/06 the car is still at the dealership waiting. *nm

I recently purchased a hyundai tiburon 2006. at 3500 miles the clutch has gone out, completely. i have owned approximately 4 stick shifts and have been able to drive a stick for 20 years. two of the manual transmission vehicles i owned (one a saturn, the other an audi) had more than 100k on them when i sold or replaced them. the dealership is replacing the clutch for free, but i am concerned, after reading of similar and numerous other stories on the web, that this will be a continual problem. *nm

On december 15, 2005 i purchased a 2006 hyundai tiburon gt. after only 2500 miles the clutch went out. i have plenty of experience driving a manual transmission, so they couldn't blame me for riding the clutch. i'm now at 5400 miles and the clutch has gone out again. there is no reason for this, it just causes me frustration, and money that i pay for a car that doesn't work. *jb

Manual transmission clutch premature wear out or failier. see all attached web sites. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0c9eb6; http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/hyundai/tiburon/r72880/comments/; http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/hyundai/tiburon/clutch this is 4-6 years of complaints from different oweners this should be addressed. if one person can find other people with different year vehicles of the same problem. do we have to have people killed before you take action on any situation. a check valve and spring may be removed to remedy this dangreous situation. it causes the car to lurch of buck unexpectedly. possiblly causing a rear end collision.

I have a 2006 hyundai tiboron and the clutch went after only 33,000 miles. absolutely unheard of! the warranty that's supposed to be so wonderful, is only for 12,000 miles or one year on the clutch! i have heard about many other people saying how badly made the clutch parts are on the hyundai's. they should be called out on it, it's a safety issue.

Twice within a 3 1/2 years. there was no evidence prior to both clutch failures. driving as normal and bam out of no where car will not accellerate. first time was on high in north carolina. second time on lie in new york. each time car put in shop and coat of replacing clutch was $2000.00 the first clutch old parts are not available but this time the car is presently in the shop so old parts can be saved.

2006 hyundai tiburon se v6 has 32,000 miles on it. never beat or raced. clutch was working fine one day. i went to go for a ride in my car the next day and couldn't get out onto the road. i barely made it to the side of the road to have the car towed! now the dealership is quoting me $2600 for a repair. the clutch is not covered under warranty but my gut feeling is that this isn't a problem with the clutch! it has to be a problem with the design. please help! ryan foley

 1. the 2006 hyundai tiburon se that i am the original owner of has been driven almost daily to and from work. i was driving the vehicle today and the clutch starting slipping, i did not drive any differently than i do normally. 2. i had the clutch for the first time ever start slipping today. i was driving up a slight hill and gave the car gas and it started revving up but not actually accelerating. i immediately let off the gas pedal and the rpms came down and reengaged the motor when the transmission should be. this was non-normal operation for the car and i was concerned that if i were to disengage the clutch that i would not be able to engage the clutch and drive the car home. 3.i have taken no action to rectify the problem but was directed to this site from http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65973 http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64779 and have been informed that my 2006 hyundai tiburon se may potentially have a clutch problem and has only been a lawsuit filed on the 2003 and 2004 tiburons with the six speed transmission. *tr

Purchased brand new oct 2006 in this order... i know a few things are missing. clutch master cylinder failure - couldn't get the car back in gear. pulls to the right all the time even though it is in perfect alignment according to dealer. terribly uneven tire wear even with 3k mile tire rotations. 2 inside sidewall blow outs. 1 tread separation blowout 2 idler pulley failures. windshield wiper motor failure. windshield washer pump failure. sunroof motor and switch failure. bent rim. air conditioning wire short which resulted in ac clutch failure just after 60,000 (of course) ac clutch failure results in constant bearing squealing. aluminum clutch pedal cover fell off and they wouldn't replace it. rear hatch release works about half the time. i know there's more, i just can't recall all of it right off. *tr

2006 hyundai tiburon seems like a high performance sports car. and it looks slick, but something about its manual clutch, fly wheel, master cylinder, presser plate, all that and more. makes this 06 tibby a peace of bad engineering garbage! i bought this car jan 9 2007 with 3333 miles on it on july 24 2007 with 14,687 i had to pay 1,865.25 dollars to replace the mesh flywheel, presser plate, and clutch in my brand new 2006 hyundai tiburon! this is crazy, the factor, hyundai, car max, or my extended warranty wouldn't cover this! here i am again oct. 26 2008 with 44,000 miles my tibby is in the shop again. this time its the master cylinder, as often as i keep seeing this happen to other owners, of the 2006 hyundai tiburon i know its not just me or my car alone, its a big problem with every owner! if something isn't done about this, then my fellow 06 hyundai tiburon owners, my lawyer with dates and copies of repair receipt just waiting for my q to file something on hyundai, and i will try to have this problem taken care of because of until now nobody has! hyundai should not want ppl telling other ppl not to get a hyundai because they build bad vehicles should they? that's bad business all around! *tr

July of 2007 i was having problems getting my car into gear. i brought it to the dealer i bought the car from and they told me that it was a pin that was bent relating to my clutch which i later find out was the master cylinder which was covered so their was no out of pocket expense however a little less than a year later in july of 2008 i was having the same problem so i bring the car back to the dealer and now they are telling me i need a clutch pressure plate release bearing and a flywheel which is not covered my car is less than two years old and has just over 27k miles i learned to drive on my permit using a manual transmission my first car was a manual and now this is my first brand new car and its also a manual i have never burned out a clutch. *tr

I bought a 2006 hyundai tiburon. the car now has only 32,000 miles and i started experiencing problems with the clutch. i brought my car to the dealership to have them inspect a loud ticking noise in feb.2008. they then proceeded to tell me immediately that it was the clutch bearing making the noise and needed to be replaced. i told them ok and asked them to fix it. told me that it was a wear and tear item, and was not covered under the warranty. i left my car at the dealership and called later to check on the car. they once again said that the problem was the clutch bearing and i needed to replace the whole clutch for $900. after complaining to hyundai corporate. the dealer then stated that they did not have enough time to completely diagnose the problem, and could not tell me who the person whom i talked to. i left my car at the dealership on two different occasions. i recently took the car back in for the same problem. only at this point, the clutch pedal was making a grinding feeling. i have to put about 20lbs. pressure on the pedal to easily engage 1st gear or reverse for that matter. at my last visit, they mocked me and tried to change the topic. then told me they would order the clutch bearing and replace it. but ensured me that they clutch still needed to be replaced. when i tried to explain how i do not race the car, the gentleman told me in the ten years he has been there, only one person admitted burning up the clutch. at this point i feel like i have been taken advantage of, called a liar, and denied the warranty services that should have been rendered to me. it seems like this has been a recurring issue. i have yet to have the bearing replaced waiting on a phone call. *tr
