Defect SummaryHyundai is recalling 532,633 my 2006-2007 accent, entourage, sonata, my 2007 azera, elantra and santa fe, my 2005-2007 tucson and my 2007-2008 veracruz vehicles. the stop lamp switch in the affected vehicles may malfunction. a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. a stop lamp switch malfunction may also affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature so the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of the park position. it may also cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed.
Consequence SummaryAny of these malfunctions, alone or in combination, may lead to a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the stop lamp switch free of charge. the recall began on june 29, 2009. owners may contact the hyundai customer assistance center at 1-800-633-5151.

By letter dated april 15, 2009, hyundai notified the agency that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa recall number 09v122) to replace the stop lamp switches on many of its model year 2005-2008 vehicles.see recall 09v122 for a complete list. the agency opened its investigation based on five complaints of stop lamp failure across several 2007 hyundai models. the agency also received early warning (ewr) reports on this issue.most of those failures were traced to the improper operation of the stop lamp switch that controls stop lamp illumination.a malfunctioning stop lamp switch can cause the vehicle's brake lights not to light during braking, or alternatively, it can cause the brake lights to stay lit even when a driver takes the foot off the brake pedal. failure of the stop lamps to illuminate properly creates the hazard of rear end collisions when drivers following the subject vehicle do not recognize that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. hyundai reported one crash incident (a frontal impact), without injury, that was alleged to have been caused by this defect.the agency reviewed the incident and cannot conclude that it is related to this defect. there are other potential problems related to failure of the stop lamp switch: failure of the cruise control to disengage, interference with proper functioning of antilock brakes and electronic stability control, and inability to move the gear shift lever out of park position.based on the above safety recall, this investigation is closed.

Bought a 2005 tucson new. it now only has 19k miles on it. but from day one, when i approach a red light/stop sign at about 30-50 mph, many times as i depress the brake pedal, it feels like i'm riding on speed bumps through the pedal/car and i have to keep tapping the brakes as i can feel the car will not stop in time and quickly put the car in neutral. i brought it up at my dealership along with the fact when i lock my car with the key remote, the horn beep to engage the rarely sounds. it may sound 1 or 2 times in 100 lockings. also brought that up to them, with both they found nothing. that was years ago. i still live with this nightmare and in 2009 my hyundai service center closed. i contacted hyundai to ask where to go and would the new place honor these old problems but they said probably not. now my car past the 5 year mark and still has only 19k miles on it and i'm up the creek without paddle. p.s. after reading about other's tire wear problems, mine are almost three quarters worn with only 19k on them. needles to say, hyundai customer service is not there when you need them.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 hyundai tucson. while driving 15 mph in rainy conditions, the brakes lock up when they are applied and the vehicle skids. the vehicle also skids when driving over a bump in the road. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it needed an updated program in its computer system. they performed the upgrade, but the failure is still present. he called the manufacturer, but they refused to make any other types of repair. the contact believes that a recall should be issued because it appears to be a manufacturer defect. the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 60,000.

Complete brake failure. this is the third occasion that the brakes on my 2005 hyundai tucson have failed. so far all three of the incidents have occurred while trying to gradually brake from a speed of around 35 mph. the brake peddle travels all the way down as if there was no resistance and the car keeps on going. the only way that i was able to come to a skidding halt was by using the emergency brake lever. i have had the hyundai dealership inspect the auto but they were not able to find anything that would cause the brakes not to work. it

I have a 2005 hyundai tucson i have several problems with my vehicle none of which the dealer says he can find but before i crash or loose my life i would like fix. today, august 1, 2006, i was traveling down the highway at normal speeds and when i step on the brake to slow down they gave. when i removed my foot they were still pumping by themselves. i pulled off the highway and turned off the car when i turned back the car the ep light stated it was off. then, when it is raining my brakes will lock and i go sliding. the other problem that i have is sometimes my car doors open and sometimes they don't. if i use the alarm they wont budge if i open the door with the key then sometimes the alarm goes off. then sometimes the passenger door and the hatchback door i have to pull hard to open this door. this are the problems the dealer can not seem to find. the other problems he fixed the compartment for my glasses didn't open right from the day i got it, the mats first put in the car used to fold up when driving because they didn't have a latch, the stabilizer light would go on and the passenger and the driver seat latch where the sits go back cracked. all these wonderful things have been occurring from the first day of purchase to now. i traded in my elentra for a suv thinking it would be better but i never had problems like this. *jb

25 problems later from purchasing a 2005 hyundai tuscan on 1/2/05 and nothing has been done. i could get into a major accident an hyundai didn't care. i have written numerous complaints , spoken to a supervisor, 1 case manager, and 3 customer service representatives from nhtsa and all i got were empty promises. ongoing problem with espy system-pulsating brakes, losing power, gas pedal locked, and swaying from side to side on the highway/street was no joke. for this not to occur i had to drive with the air conditioner on if not it happened every half and hour. now how would you like an 18 wheeler behind you while this was happening? electronically problems-remote control sometimes worked, doors opened/closed b themselves, doors got stuck, manually opening door it sounded like it was dying, doors locked from inside i had to climb out of the window twice, the car has been reprogram more times then anything, i had 3 multi point inspections, recall 079-remove-replaced air bag control, recall 068 espy-hydraulic control unit (hecu, recall january 2006-espy_electronic stability program, recall 071 july 06, 2005 parking brakes, recall 921 tuscan owners manual, recall 068-8/5/06. mats rolled under brake replaced, brakes slid when it rained, back window wipers made noise when it rained , sun glass holder got stuck even though it was replaced, passenger seat back cracked twice and replaced. i would like to know how many owner tuscan owners suffered like i did without any help, if so email me at justbe_kause@verizon.net i contacted the 1-800 they give on this site and i spoke to a case manager and she wanted me to fax to her all the paper work and forms i have sent out. the total of pages was 52 and it would cost 75.00 to send ,which they did not reimburse, they didn't have a actual address to send the information to, she gave me a file number i got august 1, 06, so i asked where the paper work? *ak
