Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, an intermittent condition that leads to the supplemental restraint system (srs) air bag warning light illumination could result from motion of the side impact air bag wiring harness and side impact air bag wiring harness connector which mount to the adjustable seat cushion assembly. this condition only relates to the side impact air bags and could prevent air bag deployment during a crash where such deployment should occur.
Consequence SummaryNon-deployment of the srs side impact air bag could increase the risk of injury during a side impact crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will more securely fasten the side impact air bag wiring harnesses and connectors to the vehicle's front seat cushion frames. owner notification began may 28, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

 1. have had brakes replaced and rotors recalibrated twice and still have vibration upon braking. dealership says i'm not braking properly and causing brakes to overheat, which causing rotors to warp. i've been braking the same way for 35 years and never had this problem. 2. air conditioner still does not cool properly and has been in shop several times. dealership says there is a leak in the a/c coolant, but they cannot find it. 3. car continually stutters at high speeds, dealership has replaced numerous parts, but problem persists. 4. engine began making clacking noise about 2 months ago. dealership said bad gas was cause, but high-grade gasoline has not fixed problem. dealership said i needed a tune-up, but that did not fix problem. dealership says they cannot hear noise, but noise is clearly audible when accelerated and climbing hills (2-4 rpms). dealership still says they don't hear a problem and cannot find anything wrong. this is of major concern to me, as i'm afraid the engine will blow up while on a major highway. 5. airbag light came on about a month ago, and won't go off, although nothing is wrong is airbags. 6. radio has a short that causes radio to go on and off intermittently. if a cd is put in the cd player and left there while radio is in use, the radio works fine. 7. this car has been in the shop so many times since it was purchased in december of 2001, i can't fit the repair and workorder sheets in the glove compartment any more, and the service technicians know me by name and sight. *nm

Note - reported airbag failure earlier, this is an additional problem. on oct 11th, during a rain storm two dogs walked into the roadway in front of my car. i hit the brakes, and had plenty of pedal yet the car continued onward. my initial reaction was that i had plenty of time to stop but quickly it became apparent that i could not. i attempted to swerve to the right hopeing that i would slow the vehicle enough to go around the dogs. the car barely slowed and i continued off the roadway striking a pole perhaps 100 feet off of the roadway. at the time i was most bothered by the airbag failure wich i reported earlier. though i could not understand my failure to stop, i did not report it as a brake failure because i had plenty of pedal at the time, nor to be honest did i hear the sound of tires sliging on the pavement. frankly, i could not explain my failure to stop. when the car was sent in for repairs the traction ccontrol light would not go off. after all body work was completed the car was taken back to covington pike hyundai, the dealer from whom i bought the car for inspection. at that time they replaced the traction control module under warranty. when the car was finally returned to me, the brakes generally worked as expected. however, the first time it rained i hit the brakes again in a panic stop at only about ten miles per hour and immediately the car went into a skid. it was actually like being on ice. upon return to the dealer they tested the vehicle repeatedly. on one occasion the mechanic even admitted that the vehicle turned completely sideways during one panic stop. the sliding was particularly obvious when the streets were wet. the dealer finally found that of the six brake lines going into the antilock brake module, only two were in the correct fittings (the rear were completely reversed). the mechanic, mr. joe griffin, assures me that this was a problem from the factory in that they had to actually use tube benders to correct the problem.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 hyundai xg300. the contact stated that the vehicle would pull to the right when she drove various speeds including approximately 35 mph. she noticed the failure in october 2003. the tires were checked and aligned; however, the failure continued to occur. a local mechanic stated that the front subframe was corroded. she later inquired about recall 09v124000, suspension and was told that her vehicle was not included. she also stated that in august 2007 she noticed that the srs light was illuminated. the vehicle was inspected and it was cited that the srs light was on because of a faulty wire which was connected to the front seat and could not be adjusted. the vehicle would have to be taken apart to confirm that the wire was faulty. she also was informed that recall 02v105000, air bags, side/window was related to her failure but did not include her vin. in july 2009, she noticed that the fuel tank would not take gasoline. she felt as if it was because of the fuel tank assembly valve but it was not confirmed by an inspector. the vehicle rejected the fuel and caused spillage. she called the manufacturer and was advised that they could not assist her. the current mileage was 78,225. the failure mileage was approximately 24,000. updated 02/17/10. *lj the transmission was replaced, due to vehicle not going into drive at times. updated 02/19/10
