FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY

I own a 2005 awd infiniti fx35. i was driving on the highway to work and i heard a loud noise indicating that the car was kicking up something underneath it. i did not see anything in the road but it became apparent later that i must have driven over some small debris in the road. i was close to the exit i take for work and i proceeded to drive off the highway. as i exited the highway i noticed that my car was leaking some liquid. the smell of the liquid appeared to be gasoline. i watched my gas gauge go from almost full to 3/4 full at a more rapid pace than normal. i brought the car immediately to the nearest infiniti dealer and when they put the car up on the lift they confirmed that there was a significant puncture in the gas tank on the driver side of the undercarriage of the vehicle. i have been told by infiniti that i need to have my gas tank replaced. i have done a bit of research and determined that earlier this year there had been an nhtsa campaign id number 06v003000 relating to the 2005 nissan murano fuel system, gasoline storage: tank assembly. the nissan murano is the equivalent nissan vehicle to the infiniti fx35. it appears to me that the campaign identified above describes the situation i encountered with my vehicle. i provided this information to the dealer who contacted infiniti and i am continuing to follow up with inifniti consumer affairs to attempt to have infiniti address this issue but i have had no luck so far. *jb
