Automatic transmission failure on my 1995 infiniti g20. the failure occurred without warning. vehicle has been properly maintained. i wrote the infiniti consumer affairs divisions but was informed they do not keep records of how many transmission failure occurred for this model and if they did they would not release the information. i would like to find out if this transmission failure is a systemic defect for this year and make of car.*ak

POWER TRAIN - CLUTCH ASSEMBLY - PEDAL/LINKAGE
07/15/2001103/01/1998
The first report has to do with the clutch system. at 35,000 miles on routine inspection my dealer informed me that clutch cylinder near the clutch pedal was seizing and causing an annoying squeak. it turns out the that failure of this cylinder caused the pressure plate to not release from the clutch plate as it normally should when takeing the foot off the clutch pedal. this caused the clutch disk/plate to excessively wear to the point it needed replacing. my vehicle now has 59,000 miles and the cylinder near the clutch pedal is squeeking again... making me think it is failing again. i don't think it is normal for me to replace this part at my expense every 30,000 miles. i think this is a poorly designed part and think that infinity/nissan should find a replacement part that does not fail so often. the cost to me to replace this everytime the cylinder fails is in the area of $800.00. the cost involves the cylinder needing replacement and well as the teardown of the tranmission system to replace the clutch disk/plate.*ak
