I was driving on 93 south in rush hour traffic when my car completely shut down. i was stranded in the middle of the highway. i immediately threw on my flashers while other cars were whizzing by me and called the state police terrified i would be hit and unable to move. after i hung i up i put the car in park and turned the key to off. after a few more minutes unable to bear sitting there, i turned the key in the ignition and it started. i called back the state troopers and was told to just get the car to a safe spot and call a tow truck, i had aaa. i did and had it towed home. i had it brought by tow truck the next morning to my mechanic who informed me i had a faulty cam sensor. he suggested i bring it to the dealership since these were being recalled up until 2003. i did and the dealership said it was just the ecm that needed to be reprogrammed. i insisted that i was concerned i couldn't go through another incident like friday night. they called my mechanice and called me back saying they would replace the cam sensor for $400. i think they should bear the cost of the cam sensor as this was no fault of my own and could have killed me. ## vin failed ##

Car was being driven at about 65mph when it lost power and the vdc, slip and check engine soon lights all came on the car regain power but at less amount and was hard to start. was taken to dealer. and was found to need a cam pos sensor. if this loss of power happen when passing on a 2 lane road i may not be writing this . the 2003 models had a recall i think this model needs one to. the cost was over 350.00. *tr

First, on 07/28/2012, at about 60 mph while driving on the freeway, notice the vehicle's engine sort of stalled (saw the tachometer drop completely) for 1 second and resume operation. continue driving but the slip, vdc and check engine lights came on. continued driving the car to my destination, which was less than a mile from this incident. after a while, tried to start the car and it would not start. it took a few tries and finally did. decided to go back home and as i was exiting the freeway at about 45 mph (thanks good) the car's engine completely shut off (thanks god was exiting the freeway (don't want to think what could have happened with cars coming right behind me at about 70). was able to restart the car after a few minutes and continued driving slow (on the streets) to my destination. the car now starts ok after a while but suddenly dies. took the car to a repair show and it shows a p0335 code (crankshaft position sensor). my mechanic says, very common problem with this cars. ***same recall as in the 2003 model year*** what are we waiting for, for some one to die in a car accident for nissan's failure to correct this problem that was reported in the 2003 models??? i hope not. if i had children, i would transport them in this vehicle, ever!!! *tr

Yesterday, july 9, 2012, while driving under normal conditions on a main city street the engine on my 2004 infiniti g35 just stopped running. lost power steering and power brakes. managed to manually steer the car off the road into a parking lot. the vdc off and slip lights and the check engine soon lights came on. i turned off the ignition and just sat there, stunned, for a few minutes. i decided to try to start it up again, and it did start and sounded ok, so i slowly drove it on home. after doing some research online for the next hour, i kind of figured it might be this defective cam position sensor, as the symptoms my car displayed sounded just like what so many others were describing, plus inifiniti and nissan had a recall for this very problem issued on the 2003 g35. i completely agree with others that the 2004 g35 should be under this same recall. this is an extremely dangerous situation to be driving and suddenly, without warning, lose all engine power. i will add that later that evening i had to go somewhere, so i took a chance that it would make it. it quit on me twice in the area around my home within 10 blocks. so, obviously i cannot take this car very far from home without getting this repaired and replaced. i took it to autozone today to have them find out the code for the check engine soon light. it's what i suspected, 0340, which is the passenger side cam position sensor. the very thing on the 2003 inifiniti g35 model recall. *tr

I had the exact same symptoms, and the dealer recommended the same parts to be replaced as affected by an earlier recall: recall id# 03v455000 - engine and engine cooling recall date: nov 17, 2003 model affected: infiniti g35 summary: on certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process. consequence: this could cause the service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. remedy: dealers will replace the crank position sensors. camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. the replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. owner notification began on december 22, 2003. owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200. potential units affected: 630000

The infiniti g35 2004 model will completely shut off when driving the car. i found out that the cam shaft sensor was the issue and the 2003 model had a recall however the 2004 does not. this issue is very concerning since the car will shut off while one is driving. this is a danger to other individuals on the road as well as the individuals driving the car.

Car engine unexpectedly cut off while driving on the highway. no prior issues with car. was able to restart car immediately and it seemed fine. took it to get diagnosed - all fluid levels were ok but the computer diagnostic said it was the camshaft position sensor (p0340). learned that there was a recall about this specific issue for 2003 g35s (id# 48751) but my car is a 2004 g35. infiniti dealerships not willing to work with me about resolving the issue under warranty or recall notice, so i decided to chance it to see if it would happen again. it happened 6 days later on an exit ramp. engine cut off and was able to pull to the side before causing any accidents. this time it was more difficult to re-start. took several times and this time the service engine soon light stayed on. took car to another infiniti dealership and they also refused to work with me regarding the recall. the next time the engine cut off was 3 days later, also while driving. filed a complaint with infiniti consumer affairs and they also refuse to do anything about it.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 infiniti g35. while driving between 60-65 mph, the vehicle shut off. after allowing the vehicle to rest for a few minutes, it restarted. the failure has previously occurred at lower speeds. the dealer stated that the crankshaft senor needed to be replaced. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the dealer stated that his vin was not included in the recall. the current and failure mileages were 78,000.

In a little over year after purchasing my g35 sedan i also noticed that it began consuming more oil than normal. i also had to add about 1/2 of oil after every 1500 miles of usage. oil changes were done every 3000 miles, i also advised infiniti of the problem but also was told that this oil consumption was normal. i advised the infiniti rep that my isuzu nor my nissan ever had this problem of consuming so much oil. a little after the vehicle began to smoke at start ups and began burning more oil. i immediately took vehicle back to infiniti and advised them of the problem. infiniti new without even having to examine the vehicle what the problem was and would not honor any warranty repairs, stating poor maintenance. i had to repair the vehicle at my cost. infiniti knows that this is a defect on most of their vehicles but will not honor the engine warranty and make repairs. i will never purchase an infiniti vehicle ever again. when ever i get a brochure in the mail from infiniti i do not bother to open the envelope, i just throw it away in the trash. infiniti has lost a customer for life. *tr

While driving my 2004 infiniti g35 sedan with 6 speed manaul on the highway- i suddenly got a vdc slip slight, service engine soon light. the car began to sputter intermittingly loosing power. i was able to make it to the side of the road and ultimately into a parking lot - although i was nearly rear ended when the car stumbled. this happened one before in sept. 2007 with my wife - in which the dealer replaced the cam sensor. *tr

Engine started to smoke at start up's on my 2004 g35. had vehicle for about a year. took vehicle to infiniti dealer to have problem corrected. infinite would not repair stating that there was engine slug build up. took vehicle to an independent mechanic to have second opinion. mechanic found no slug build-up under oil cap nor in crankcase. i contacted infiniti consumer affairs to stress my complaint. no satisfactions or resolution to my complaint. infiniti has a poor warranty on their vehicles. i bought this car new and i now do all my oil changes every 3000 miles using only mobil 1 5w 30w full synthetic oil. as of this april i have had the vehicle for three years and i am now looking to trade it in and get rid of it before any other problem spring up all of a sudden. worst warranty i have ever had to deal with. i also own a mercedes benz and i have never had a single problem. *jb

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE

I purchased a 2004 infiniti g35 in 2008. it all started after an oil change that i received in 2009 less than a month and a half later about 2000 miles of driving looking at my odometer. i heard a rattling noise coming from the engine, and while i was slowing down to come to a complete stop i notice the oil light flicker. i quickly pulled over and checked the oil dip stick, and to my surprise i showed that the low was very low, so i added 4 quarts to the engine. when i got home i checked the drive way to see if there were any oil spots in where i park my car, and there wasn

Early after i purchased my car g35 6mt 2004 infiniti coupe i noticed a significant oil consumption occurring between oil changes. i proceeded to file a complaint with the dealer at the next check up appointment but was told there were no issues. i continued to notice the excessive consumption of oil and once more asked the dealer to take a look at it. the second time around the dealer said that there was oil consumption occurring with the car at a rate of over 1/2qt. per 1,000mi. however, inifiniti refuses to recognize this as excessive, and claims the amount of oil consumed is within normal standards. they claim that a rate of 1qt per 1000 mi. is still acceptable. this would mean that if i follow the service manual's 3,750mi oil changes i would be left with under 1.75qts of oil in the engine and in very high provability of explosion. these standards in my opinion seem backward, maybe 40 years ago those standards were correct. i've owned mustangs that have consumed less oil than a brand new luxury vehicle. up to this point there has been nothing done with regard to this issue, since infiniti will not recognize their manufacturing defect. there are plenty of other 2004 g35 that do not face this issue. i've continued to invest a considerable amount of money on making early oil changes, which infiniti will not cover, in fear that if i don't keep the engine in check i may be in danger of an engine explosion or similar. *tr
