Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the crank position sensors. camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. the replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. owner notification began on december 22, 2003. owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

My 2003 infinit m45 engine stopped during operation which was very concerning at the time due to my finance and child both in the car. this has been the second time that this has happened to my vehicle. this issue first occured after the service engine light came on. i was told by the manufactuer dealership that i would have to replace my engine to correct issue. that was a very expensive option so i took it another smaller auto shop to get a second opinion. i was told there was engine problem with the cam shaft senor and the timing belts. i decide to continue to drive vehicle. the car first had engine failure in apr 10. i took to a auto shop and the cam shaft senors was replaced and i was able to continue to drive the vehicle. code p0021 was not abled to be cleared so the service engine light remained on. i was able to drive the car and experienced no issues until sep 10. the car engine stop working again during vehicle operation in sep 10. i recently came across a recall for 2003 infinit m45 that described similar issues to what is happening to my vehicle. i was told by the infiniti dealership that my vin was not part of the recall even though the vehicle problems are similar to was is listed in this engine and engine cooling recall. thank you.

Vehicle consumes 1 quart of motor oil every 1000 miles. it causes carbon buildup in the combustion chambers. i was told i would have to pay to get the carbon cleaned periodically. vehicle has 24000 miles and is still under warranty. manufacturer says this type of consumption is normal and does not want to anything. service rep stated that they are having the same issues with all models with this v8. *la

Purchased new inf. m45 when car reached about 24000 miles. i took it in to be serviced. infiniti service was unable to reproduce problem. would call on several occasions informing dealership that their product was defective. i finally got tons of problems (perforated leather seats had mesh coming, cd changer jammed, ac compressor busted, belts on the motor had to be replaced, glove box had to be readjusted, hood had to be readjusted to stop the squeeking when closing the doors, front window guides and stabilizer-inner door had to be replaced to stop all the squealing when letting the windows up/down) and schedule another visit to see if the engine/exhaust problem could be repaired. the dealership had my car for 3 weeks...and cleaned out the combustion chamber at their cost and the day i got it back, it was still smoking out the pipes. the dealership says they know nothing else to do but to replace the motor if it's consuming oil. i found these other complaints which already state that infiniti knows about this oil consumption problem and appears to be giving me the run around. if the motor is replaced with another nissan v8, the same problem is likely to reoccur. their product is defective.*ak
