Currently own a 1998 isuzu trooper. was purchased used from the dealer at 82,000 miles. currently has 120,000 miles on the car. since purchase vehicle has not held its complete capacity of oil between oil changes. there are no leaks and oil is changed regularly with a full capacity. investigation by me and others has shown that the engine was built with insufficient oil rings which lead to high oil consumption and has led to seized motors due to a lack of warning. isuzu is aware of this (mechanic told me) and was not fixed until the 2000 model year. (problem on 98 and 99 models. don't mind adding oil every once in a while but would hate to loose the engine because the oil system does not work properly in it's design. *jb

Excessive oil usage in a 1998 isuzu trooper with 61,000 miles. having to add 1 qt./500 miles. isuzu said they could not help me even though, i have found out, it is a much documented problem. they initially did an oil usage test, service department said it would be not problem, but in the end was turned down. wrote letter to dealer and isuzu to try to get them to pay half, but was turned down again. been adding the oil ever since just to keep it running. dates below may not be exact.
SUSPENSION

After dropping my daughter off and on my way to work driving on a highway at 55 mph in the far right lane a semi truck passed me on the left throwing off a gust of wind at which point the forward mounting point bracket on the rear left tire came loses causing an almost complete loss of steering which caused the truck to sway in and out of the lane i was driving in, almost flipping it over, until i was able to slow down and bring the truck to a complete stop on the side of the road completely inoperable. after having the truck towed to the authorized isuzu service center they determined this was part of recall 10v-436 and was not able to be repaired. citing rcdnn-10v436-1257.pdf a letter from isuzu to the ntsb isuzu states that in event that the truck cannot be repaired they will pay the private party price to the owner, when what they told me is that they will only pay for what the cost of the repair would have been. my concern is that this forces these vehicles back on the road when resold as used leaving the new owner unsuspecting of the danger when they are unsafe to drive. the facebook page dedicated to this issues has many articles linked of people getting seriously hurt or killed over this issue.
