I have a 1998 isuzu rodeo, currently under recall for a failing mounting point bracket on the rear suspension lower link due to excessive corrosion. under the recall, i qualify to have a reinforcemet bracket installed, however the inspection has revealled a deeper issue of extensive and unreparable frame corrosion. this is not being addressed by the current recall and must be addressed immediately. this vehicle is not safe to operate. it will not pass inspection. driving it will likely result in an accident and possibly death to the occupants.

Frame is completely rotted out. brought in for recall on brackets and the dealer, referred to me by the isuzu web site, sent me on my way without warning me of any problems. the next week, my mechanic said it was unsafe to drive and said it looked like it was driven in salt water for a year. i understand things wear out over time, but the structure of the vehicle needs to be strong and last more than 10 years. they are still selling these vehicles at dealerships without warning potential customers of their issues. this to me is a big problem and needs to be resolved before anyone gets hurt. i have two small children and would not drive them in this vehicle, but some people do not have the means to get around some other way. toyota bought their frames from the same manufacturer that provided honda and isuzu with their frames and they offered to buy them all back, realizing that there was a problem. they recently just settled with that manufacturer for the faulty frames. this needs to be addressed swiftly and not by a voluntary recall issued by the company to try to appease or stall a consumer protection agency.

October 17, 2011, i took my rodeo to, have it serviced for the suspension:rear recall. after service the mechanics inspection report noted that: frame corroded badly, r/f hub loose, rear shock hanging, frame rotted thru and that the front c/v joint had rusted off. the service department, did not advise me to drive the car home, as it was a safety issue. over the years i have had the exhaust repaired, a number of times due to rust. this vehicle has never been off-road, and has only been used as transportation to work(all highway driving).

Was driving the vehicle at 30 mph when a pop in the back was heard and all steering control was lost. when i looked under the vehicle, the bracket that holds the rear axle (left side) had broken off. frame is grossly rusted. when isuzu was called regarding the current recall, was told that the nearest service center was over 3 hours away. i am currently in the process of getting the vehicle to the service center, but due to distance this is an issue.

In regards to current safety recall no. 10v-436, i own a 1998 isuzu rodeo which has been found unrepairable by the vehicle inspectors i was sent to by isuzu in compliance with the safety recall notice i recieved in december 2010. as the recall notice states, when repair is not possible, an alternative remedy will be provided. my inspection appointment ws march 16, 2010. my vehicle failed the safety and repairable conditions necessary for the vehicle to be driveable. i never got my vehicle back. i is still there. three weeks have passed, no remedy has been offered. i have no means of transportation. the only communication i have had is one phone call offering a buyback of 1/2 the worth of the vehicle, $2500.00. i declined this offer as it is unfair, unjust, and i believe, illegal. i was told that i would recieve paperwork in the mail and another offer would be made. this has not happened. 2 weeks have passed with no communications. i have made three attempts to call the phone number i was given, have been put on hold for over 30 min each time, at which time i could no longer wait. i believe they are not answering the calls and have no intentions of making this right. they are not in compliance with the safety recall. please investigate.

My 1998 isuzu rodeo, 94,000 mi, has a large (6) hole in the frame behind the right rear wheel. this hole was discovered yesterday when i took my car to liberty mazda in wakefield, ma for a routine oil change. this frame damage was not present on december 20, 2010 when i had work done for safety recall no. 10v-436 at cornerstone mitsubishi in wilmington, ma. the hole in the frame shows extensive rust and a large chunk simply fell out while i was driving. the car needs a new frame or is undrivable as an extreme safety hazard. i was told that it would cost approximately $8000 to repair this vehicle which has an estimated value of less than half that amount. other than the frame, the car runs great and i have spent thousands of dollars in the past few years (at least 8000) to replace the engine in may, 2008 (cracks in cylinder), replace the radiator (twice; 2007 and 2010), brake work, among other expensive repairs. now the car is a safety hazard and i am without transportation unless the frame is replaced.

I own a 1998 isuzu rodeo. i just recieved a letter from isuzu stating that there was a recall on this vehicle due to massive amounts of corrosion on the frame. last january, when i went to get my inspection sticker, my mechanic stated how bad the rust was on the underside and advised me to get rid of the vehicle stating that it is unsafe to drive. i ended up holding on to the rodeo until now and upon looking into this matter have found out that there have been numerous complaints about the same issue(s) i had. let me state that i also get a 1998 ford f-150 repaired by the same mechanic. my mechanic made a statement about how my work truck may look rough, but it is in way better shape structurally than the rodeo. they both have the same manufacturing date, approximately the same amount of miles, and been driven on the same massachusetts roads with the same salt on them. so, my questions to you are, why did it take so long to get this recall in motion? why are they able to state that because the vehicle is over 10 years old they are not responsible for it even though this issue has been going on long before isuzu's recall date, or when they notified the nhtsa? it seems as if they are getting kind of a pass here. my friends toyota tacoma was recalled a few years ago and toyota stood by their product and reimbursed her the value of the truck. there should be some sort of standard set forth on certain types of recalls. this is not an issue of a faulty seat belt or rusting spare tire holder, this is an issue of a car falling apart on the road while driving it possibly injuring the passengers as well as other motorists on the road. no excuses for honda or isuzu, there is no possible way they did not know about the faults years ago while servicing the same vehicles in their garages. toyota got a public lambasting for faults in their vehicles but i have not heard a peep about honda or isuzu's lack of initiative to repair the vehicles. thank you

While driving at about 30 mph i heard a loud pop from the rear of my vehicle. i immediately lost control, and the truck swerved into oncoming traffic. it was like it had a mind of it's own. i fought the truck back into my lane at which point it appeared to come up on 2 wheels (and it felt like it also), i was able to get stopped and pulled to the side of the road without collision. upon further inspection i found that the vehicles frame rusted clean through and broke, the rear axle stabilizer arm also dropped off frame, causing the rear tires to lose any direction they had and wobble freely in the wheel well. this is the only time i have experienced anything like this, or ever seen anything like this. once was enough. i have had it looked at by several frame and body specialists, even boilermakers, all with the same result, and the same answer, no. they say the truck is totaled, and refuse to work on it because of liability issues. the body and interior are in perfect shape, 143k miles, full tank of gas, licensed through next august, insured through april, parked for good. there is nothing that can be done to fix this, what is clearly a flawed design, and manufacturer shortcoming. prompt attention is greatly appreciated, and necessary before someone gets killed.

1998 isuzu rodeo severe frame corrosion resulting in the rear end almost dropping off of the vehicle. discovered during replacement of cracked rear spring the back half of the frame has completely turned into crystalline rust. repair of the frame has required welding new side plates onto the frame rails to strengthen the rear bumper support. without the added support plates the rear bumper is has no protective properties at all. inspection of this repair indicates that at best this fix will only last for a short period of time before additional structural failure of the frame occurs. truck is only has 138,000 miles on a 12 year old suv this should not be happening to this vehicle. requesting an investigation into this problem it appears to be systemic to the 1998 to 2002 year models of this suv. requesting a recall and replacement of the vehicle frame. i am the original owner and sole driver of this garage keep suv. i have in the last 2 years had the transmission rebuilt, and a full top end engine job done only to find this problem just prior to getting the 2010 pa state inspection. with out the repairs it won't pass inspection. its costing me a fortune to fix a problem that should not have happened.

Was driving to work one morning doing about 35mph, and all of the sudden the rear end of the rodeo swerved almost hitting a car in the oncomming lane. came to a stop and again rear end felt strange. got to work and looked it over. didnt see anything still little dark out. called my mechanic he said check the frame. sure enough the rear trailing bar broke free from the frame. my mechanic is a professional welder he said bring it over he would look at it. had to tow it to garage where he raised it on a rack. the whole frame had all kinds of rot in various place. rodeo is now junk. only has 120,000 miles on it. looks great on the outside. but its only skin deep!!! the day before this happened i had my daughter and her friends on the pa turnpike doing 55 mph with no idea we could have all been killed.

I have a 1998 isuzu rodeo jeep. a while back i had a piece of the frame repaired/welded, as it broke and the vehicle was unstable. i spent over $500 in repair costs to bring the vehicle to driving status again. to this day i still wonder if it is good enough to drive, as there is rust all on the under frame of the car. i have put so much time, and money into this vehicle, and i cant afford to just get rid of the car and get a new one. i have once thought that maybe the car had just sat in water before i purchased it, but due to the other stories i have read on this vehicle, i know now that it is not the case. many people have experienced the same issues with the frame rust as i have. i have two young children that ride in this vehicle as well, and i am concerned for there safety as i hear that the condition of the vehicle can deteriorate over time. i think something should be done about this now before it gets any worse. i am not sure what the dealer is waiting for, maybe a catastrophe, before they do something about this. please look into this matter as soon as possible before things get out of hand. *tr

While driving down rte 9 in framingham ma on 12/05/2008, my 1998 isuzu rodeo started swaying. it felt like the rear end of the vehicle was sliding on ice. i pulled off of the highway and had the vehicle towed. my mechanic determined that the rear sway bar had rotted off the vehicle. a new sway bar was installed, however additional rust was noted and i was told to keep an eye on it for future rot. in march 2010, while completing normal maintenance, my mechanic noted that the frame on the drivers side between the front and rear doors was rotted beyond repair. the vehicle now sits in my driveway.

I have a 1998 rodeo, drivers side frame rusted at trailing arm bracket, seperated and wheel went forward against wheel well. luckly in drive way15 mph. six month later driver side frame rusted at upper shock and coil spring mounts. the left rear trailing arm and bracket broke from the frame(due to rust), causing the vehicle to shake violently. i believe isuzu company that has an obligation to notify owners of this potentially disastrous condition.

January 2010 -1998 isuzu rodeo-backing out of driveway vehicle abruptly stopped. upon investigation we discovered rear wheel of driver side lodged against inside of wheel well. further discovered rear stabilizer bracket completely off of rear frame. vehicle repaired by a welder who discovered 5 feet of frame rot in the rear of vehicle. he replaced rotted frame and fabricated new bracket. visually inspected passenger side which appeared to be stable. april 4,2010-while traveling on interstate highway the vehicle made an unexpected very abrupt shift to the right. visual inspection revealed the rear passenger side frame was failing.there was no prior warning in either incident. we have filed a complaint with isuzu motors. we consider ourselves very fortunate not to have been injured as this problem is clearly a major safety issue.

1998 isuzu rodeo. problem rotted frame which caused the torque bar to rot off the frame. i am lucky to be alive. i was going slow enough that i was able to handle the car. when this bar breaks off the car it causes the rearend of the car to start swaying. the car is now unable to be driven so i am filing this complaint to find out what i should do with this car. i honestly believe that some sort of buyback should be done on these vehicles to get them off the road before someone gets killed driving one. should i keep the car until something is done or do i total it and sell it to a junk yard. thank you*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1998 isuzu rodeo. the contact stated that when driving over speed bumps he heard a loud noise underneath the vehicle. while driving above 55 mph, the rear end of the vehicle began moving rapidly from side to side. when the failure occurred, the risk of a vehicle crash increased. a local mechanic concluded that the right portion of the frame was corroded. no repairs have been made. the current and failure mileages were 102000.

I was driving vehicle on state route. began hearing what sounded like small rocks or cinders. now on the road though. then the car started to sway some as i went around a turn. i pulled over and looked under vehicle and found my right rear sway bar bracket had rusted through and the bar was hanging on that side tried to weld a piece of metal to frame to make a new bracket and discovered the frame is also rusted through in places. my car is unsafe to drive now and is basically totaled. i have no other vehicle to drive. called isuzu and was informed it was my problem not theirs. *tr
