2001 isuzu rodeo 4x4 3.2 v6 fuel guage reading inaccurate. constant problem with fuel guage reading inaccurate - has lead to two breakdowns in the last month.

I decided to file this claim once i read it was not an isolated incident. the fuel gauge falls to empty which triggers the gas light to come on. the truck has between 1/4 and 1/2 tank when this happens. the fuel gauge/sensor is faulty and should be recalled by isuzu.

I drive a 2001 isuzu rodeo 4x4. it has approximately 100,000 miles on it. upon taking the rodeo in for recall inspection on nhtsa 10v-436 (rear suspension) the shop noticed that my fuel tank protector was 90% rusted and rotted away. the shop told me this shield (oem part number 8-97226-445-4) also supports the fuel tank from falling off the vehicle (hence this safety complaint). i told the shop to order a replacement and repair it at the same time they were doing the suspension recall work. weeks later the shop told me the fuel tank shield is no longer manufactured and is not available anywhere in their dealer network within the usa. i'm still trying to find a replacement at a junk yard. i don't appear to be the only consumer in this situation as i found another complaint that describes the same situation at this web address: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2001/isuzu/rodeo/10339599.aspx

I purchased my 2001 isuzu rodeo in march 2002. several months after purchasing it, i noticed that my gas light would show empty even after a complete fill up. the only way i had to determine if i needed fuel was by resetting my tripometer each time i filled up. i was okay with doing that for years until in 2006 when i needed to renew by registration, i could not pass emissions because of the check engine light being on. when they determined what the cause was, it was something to do with the fuel line. i took it in for an estimate of repair. i had no choice in the matter and had to pay over $800.00 to have a new fuel sending unit put in my vehicle. i have recently learned that this has been an case for large numbers of 2001 isuzu rodeo owners. i do not understand why this was never a recall issue. as far as i am concerned, i think the car manufacturer so take responsibility for this matter and fix all of the cars that are still out there with this problem and reimburse those of us who had to pay for this repair. obviously, there is more to it than just a fluke. *tr

The fuel sending unit on the '01 isuzu rodeo is faulty and causes the check engine light to come on and the gas gauge to work improperly. also, the transmission for the '01 rodeo appears to be structurally unsound for the engine. the transmission on my '01 rodeo, after 70,000 miles, has needed to be replaced. this truck has not been used for 4 wheel driving. though they recalled the '02 for the fuel sending unit they did not incorporate the '01 into that recall. *nm

At a little over 36,000 miles i started having problems with the gas gauge. it drops from full within 30 miles, once it hits a half tank it sporadically drops to empty, the gas light comes on along with the check engine light. it will go back up but then drop again. when i fill the tank at a reading of 1/4 tank i get an average of 8 gallons before the pump shuts off. yet according to the book it is an 18 gallon tank. now at 40,000 its getting worse. i registered a 1/2 tank at the pump shut off at 2 gallons. *nm

I own a 2001 isuzu rodeo. at about 50,000 miles, which was around july 2005, the gas started going back and forth after about of quarter of a tank of gas was used, which caused the check engine light to come on. it thought itwas empty when i actually was about 8 more gallons of gas in the tank. also, about the same time the vehicle started idling very roughly and sometimes shutting off. it has gotten worse. also, it a idled very high at times, and sometimes the idling fluctuated back and forth between high and low, almost like i was pressing on the accelerator. i am writing this because i have looked on line and saw several people with the same two problems. thank you for your consideration.*ak

2001 isuzu rodeo, with no prior damage, was warming up and caught fire. apparently , a fuel line leak in the engine compartment was the cause. no warning whatsoever, and no prior mechanical work performed in the engine compartment relating to fuel lines. apparently isuzu had a recall on fuel lines, but i'm told it doesn't apply to this vehicle. nm

We purchased a 2001 isuzu rodeo used from a dealer in 2002. the fuel gage started falling to empty triggering the gas light to come on along with the cel, since it wasn't a major problem we have not had it repaired since being quoted over $500 to replace the whole fuel pump because of a faulty fuel sensor unit. there are hundreds of complaints regarding this same issue and isuzu is not picking up the responsibility of replacing this. now because we can't pass emissions with the cel on we are forced to have this repaired. *tr

2001 isuzu rodeo, i started having problems with fuel gauge and check engine light came on. even though the vehicle will have a full tank of gas, it will register empty. also, the vehicle is idling high. i purchased this vehicle new in 2001 and it only has 44,000 miles. the dealership ran tests and said that it is an egr valve oxygen sensor, and a fuel leveling sending unit. i have a 10 year/120,000 mile warranty, however these parts went out with a 3 year warranty. cost of repairs at dealership---$1200. *tr

Fuel gauge was reading incorrectly. it would indicate that i was about out of fuel when i actually had about 1/2 a tank left. isuzu dealership is replacing the fuel level sending unit. *jb
