I was driving on the road at around 35 - i heard a very load thump from around the rear drivers side back tire they car started swivering all over the road. i could barely get it to the side of the road. my son came and was able to nurse it to my husbands house that wasnt that far. the next day my sons put the car on the jack stands thinking maybe the strut came off. when they got under the car the found that the fram of the car had rusted through. when i had looked the car up on line to see if there were any problems with the car in regards to that issue i did find a recall on the rust issue. i started calling the number and left several messages. i finally got through on january the 5th and they tell me that it had closed but if i wanted to get it to an isuzu dealer at my cost that is over 2 hours away and pay for the the test they may be able to do something or go after the person because they may have known. i feel this was a serious safety defect in the vehicle and should be taken care of. i loved my car and now have no transpertation. there was nothing wrong with any other part of the vehicle and i am grateful i wasnt on the highway and that none of my other children were driving it at the time.

I bought my 2001 isuzu rodeo new. i received a recall notice in 2010 about the suspension brackets in the rear having a rust problem. i had the recall inspection done and the isuzu service center told me that the vehicle was fine and they applied some rust inhibitor. i took my vehicle to a repair shop in aug 2012 for brake work and they informed me that the frame of the vehicle directly in front and behind the rear wheels was almost completely rusted with numerous rust holes in the frame. the frame was so rusted in numerous spots that you could push your finger through the frame and it would crumble under the pressure. i called isuzu and they advised me to take it to an authorized service center they directed me to. at this center i was told that my rust was considered a level 3 incident. isuzu told the repair shop to do a level 3 fix. that included putting larger suspension brackets on and coating the rust with a rust inhibitor. they stated that the frame rust was not covered under the recall, only the brackets. they acknowledged that there were frame issues for these models but their responsibility was only for the suspension brackets. this vehicle is undrivable in it's present condition with almost no strength left in the rear frame. i will have to spend thousands of dollars to have metal welded to the rear of the vehicle to strengthen it and to make it safe enough to drive. a vehicle produced in 2001 should not have this much rust damage to the frame. this was obviously a manufacturing defect that isuzu even acknowledges but they are refusing to accept monetary responsibility for their defect. these cars need to be bought back from the customer for market value of a vehicle of this age and type. please help the thousands of isuzu rodeo owners out there like me who have lost the use of their vehicle through no fault of their own. thank you. eric zumbrunnen

Vehicle frame on 2001 isuzu rodeo is badly rusted. have maintained car well and was last inspected in august, 2011, with no problems noted. in april, 2012, vehicle was in shop for brake work when the mechanic noticed that the frame was badly rusted. have brought the vehicle to a welding shop and have been informed that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and cannot be repaired.

I have a 2001 isuzu rodeo with 100,000 miles on it. i really do not want to get rid of it but the whole car is rusting out. the other day i had a flat, the tow truck driver lifted up the car and clumps of rust fell out onto the ground. then when the spare tire was lowered a chuck of the frame along with the chain that holds the tire up fell off the car. i have brought it to isuzu who said that it is safe to drive, but how can it be safe if chunks of the car are falling off at all times.

My isuzu was recalled for a defect in the forward mounting brackets of the rear suspension. before i took it in for the recall, i took it to my mechanic to have new brakes. he called me to tell me that the frame was so rotted and rusted not to bother because the car was to far gone. i took it to marty's of kingston, ma.for the recall. they called to tell me that they fixed the brackets but the frame was so rotted that the car was unsafe to drive.this is totally absurd to me. they claim the recall was only on the brackets and isuzu doesn't car if the frame is rotted.so, i had it towed to a junk yard only to be told all they would give me was $800.00. i just put 2 new tires on the front worth $300.00. i don't understand how isuzu is getting away this. the junk yard told me that one of the new brackets put on at the dealership was right next to a big rotted hole in the frame. what does it take for them to take this seriously, someone getting killed! the rodeo was running fine and i hadn't planned on buying a new vechicle until next year. do i have any recourse with isuzu? i just pray that no one gets killed with these rusted frames.

1/20/2010: while driving experienced inability to control vehicle. upon inspection swing arm/brackets had rusted away from frame. vehicle repaired and was covered under safety campaign/recall 10v-436. during state inspection this year (8/23/2011) vehicle was deemed unsafe, undriveable and possibly unfixable due to inability to obtain parts. the cause is severe rust in the frame. i spoke with isuzu at (800) 255-6727 and was told that though this has been a problem with many people there is no coverage for the rust and frame damage. everyone experiencing this problem is in the same boat, out of luck

Original owner of 2001 rodeo. received a recall notice for rear suspension lower link bracket. drivers side required installation of a bracket, passenger side was sprayed with wax. recall repair was completed circa 01/2011. took the car to an independent mechanic for brakes last week and was told that the frame is so rusted that it is not worth doing the brakes. mechanic stated that the vehicle would not pass its inspection as the frame is softened due to rusting and is unsafe (don't go on any long drives and think about a new car in the next couple of weeks). contacted isuzu and was told they have no further responsibility as they did everything they were supposed to under the recall agreement. i would like to better understand how the responsibility for rusted frames can be limited to such a small area of the frame component when it appears from the high number of filed complaints that this is a systemic frame rust issue and not simply a localized issue dealing with the rear lower suspension link. this rear suspension link is only the symptom of the actual problem. isuzu is taking the position that if the rust is not in that specific location, they have no responsibility beyond that. is the nhtsa pursuing this issue farther? vehicle is in excellent condition other than the frame. no rust on the body panels/sheet metal whatsoever. please advise,

We received a recall notice for frame rust. we took it into a local isuzu repair shop on 12-22-2010; they told us the frame was rusted through and that they needed to order a part to fix it. we have been waiting several months because the repair shop cannot get the part from isuzu. they also cannot tell us when the part will come in. we feel the vehicle is unsafe and cannot understand why isuzu is not required to fix the problem in a timely manner. how long does a company have to fix a recalled vehicle? are they legally required to fix the problem?

I drive a 2001 isuzu rodeo 4x4. it has approximately 100,000 miles on it. upon taking the rodeo in for recall inspection on nhtsa 10v-436 (rear suspension) the shop noticed that my fuel tank protector was 90% rusted and rotted away. the shop told me this shield (oem part number 8-97226-445-4) also supports the fuel tank from falling off the vehicle (hence this safety complaint). i told the shop to order a replacement and repair it at the same time they were doing the suspension recall work. weeks later the shop told me the fuel tank shield is no longer manufactured and is not available anywhere in their dealer network within the usa. i'm still trying to find a replacement at a junk yard. i don't appear to be the only consumer in this situation as i found another complaint that describes the same situation at this web address: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2001/isuzu/rodeo/10339599.aspx

Total frame rusted out on 2001 isuzu rodeo. i was told not to drive it. only 72,000 miles on it. isuzu only recalled the brackets attached to the frames and are sending people back out on to the road with rotting frames. there needs to be another recall for the frames so that we don't all have to buy new vehicles. isuzu is cheating people on the buy back amounts. there is no fix to this problem exept for replacing the bad section of frame or in some cases, the entire frame.

I received a recall #10v-436 form in the mail from the isuzu owner relations center 1400 s. douglass road, suite 100 anahelm, ca 92806 on or about november 2010. it stated that i should call isuzu special assistance center to identify the isuzu service center closest to me. i was told the parts to repair my vehicle would not be available until the middle of january 2011. i called and an appointment for february 18, 2011 at bournival isuzu where i bought the suv brand new in august 2001. the suv was due for a sticker january 2011. january 10 2011 this vehicle was in an accident. there was minor damage to the rear left side totaling $2,800. when the body shop further investigating under the vehicle he noticed extensive frame damage rotting with holes and extensive rust. he determined the suv was unsafe. he also noticed the axel was 3/4 of an inch out of line. he then called our insurance company and the adjuster reinvestigated the vehicle. the adjuster at this time totaled the suv. the insurance company took ownership of the vehicle and subtracted a large sum of money from the finale amount because of the holes and rust he found on the frame undercarriage, to look at this vehicle you would have thought it was years younger then it was. there was no rust, dents or scratches. this vehicle should have gone another 100,000 miles at least. it was garaged and meticulously maintained with records from the date of purchase. i was told by friends it drove and sounded like a brand new automobile. my intention was to have it for ten more years. at this time i am requesting the amount disqualified by the insurance company for the frame metal decomposition and an amount for loss of longevity and failure to fulfill my expectations.

Received recall notice and had it performed at authorized repair facility. couldn't give us any info on extent of damage when we picked up the 2001 isuzu rodeo. they said they had mailed us our paperwork and didn't have any details. received paperwork in mail 1 day later. alarming notes from mechanic read as follows, performed recall # 10v 436 inspect car, found parts of left side frame rotting away, showed service manager / called isuzu, could not get through, performed repair procedure for stage four, found holes in the frame. per service managers request, reinforcement bracket type b. i called the dealership back for explanation. the service manager told me that they completed the repair according to isuzu's specifications and if isuzu thinks the car is unsafe they will contact me. in addition to this car being highly unsafe; the exhaust system came back with a perforation and the transmission is making a chain like rattling sound as a result of the recall repair.

2001 isuzu rodeo ls 4dr 4wd suv, climate control fan switch stopped operating. the unit was removed from the dash and an investigation concluded the switch was overheated and caused it to fail. the entire climate control unit was replaced and worked fine thereafter. a year later in may of 2010, the unit stopped operating once again and a small amount of smoke poured through the dash where the unit is located. it was removed once again and the wire connection to the fan switch melted to the unit this time. i can not find anyone who is willing to repair it this time and have found several other forums online where other owners of this particular vehicle are having similar problems.
