These incidents happened with two vehicles of the same make, model but different years. while driving at 25 mph, the consumer applied the brake pedal and felt a thumping sensation in the pedal. when the thumping occurred the brakes failed completely. on both occasions, the consumer had to ride in the shoulder to keep from colliding with other vehicles. *ak the first incident took place when the consumer was approaching a stop sign at a normal speed she stepped on the brakes and there was a thumping under the brake pedal and the vehicle failed stop and slid partially into an intersection. the service rep stated it was from the anti-lock brake system being activated and the brakes performed as designed. *cb also the vehicle failed to start, the dealer found the ground harness on the alternator loose and stripped out which caused the vehicle not to start. the temperature gauge went to the red zone. *jb

I have to add oil twice between my 4000 mile oil changes. i have been required to do this since the 30000 mile mark. the dealer(s) claim the engine is designed to 'use' up to 1 quart every thousand miles!!! sounds like a design flaw to me. *ak

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - EXHAUST SYSTEM - EMISSION CONTROL

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - EXHAUST SYSTEM - EMISSION CONTROL - GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
05/18/200423700104/16/2002
This complaint concerns my 2002 isuzu rodeo vehicle. while traveling from dallas to beaumont, my check engine light came on. we stopped and the oil and water was fine but the light continued to burn. after checking the owner's manuel i learned that the light indicated that there was a problem with the emmission control. the mileage on this vehicle when i entered the dearlership was 23,815 miles and the car not only has izusu's warranty but an extended warranty for 7 years/100,000 miles. after jk chevrolet/isuzu service department checked out the problem i was told that the egr fuel system unit needed service and that there was carbon deposits and corrosion build up which restricted the flow of unburned fuel mixture to the exhaust gas recirculation vale (egr). i might also note that prior to this i was getting 13 miles per gallon on this vehicle.....the advertised average if 17 to 23 mpg. isuzu refused to cover this under warranty since they stated it was a maintenance procedure. quite frankly, i have owned many different makes of cars and i have never had carbon build up in any of them, even one that has over a 100,000 miles on it. if this is starting at 23,800 miles then what does the future hole? i do not use cheap gasoline in my cars. i use the middle grade of chevron or shell gasoline. while taking with the service manager at jk i learned that had seen more and more of this type of problem with low mileage isuzu which to me would indicate that there is a design problem with this vehicle. at my expense the service department serviced the egr fuel system service units and removed carbon deposits and corrosion build up from the engine. the parts that were replaced #10196 fuel sys tune u $48.00, # 8-97104-317-2 gasket: egr vlv $7.60 and labor egr fuel system serv. units 2 techs $144.35.*ak
