Transmission began hard shifting and slipping. took it to dealer and dealer installed a new transmission servo cover and replaced 4 quarts of transmission fluid. dealer indicated that original servo cover had cracked and indicated verbally this was becoming common. problem was repaired under warranty but if this repair is becoming common and can result in complete transmission failure a warning should be issued to alert owners of this problem so the servo cover can be replaced before it's failure causes larger problems. *tr

Vehicle's automatic transmission unpredictably and uncontrollably, on more than one occasion while driving on the highway at 60 mph, shifted out of drive and into park on the control panel indicator, while the stick shift was still engaged in drive. this resulted in a very alarming jerking feeling and loss of forward velocity. the only way to stop this situation and return to normal was to brake, pull over into the highway's shoulder, put the gear shift into park, turn off the vehicle's ignition, wait a few seconds, and then turn the vehicle back on. after this occurred two or three times, i became concerned that this could lead to a serious safety problem and potential accident so i took the vehicle to an isuzu dealer for repairs and they replaced the transmission mode switch and cleared the code for a total cost of $350. the service manager indicated that the same problem had been found with other isuzu rodeo vehicles and knew exactly what the problem was based on my initial description of the problem. if this problem is being found with other isusu rodeos built in 2002, there could be a more widespread safety problem that should be investigated. *cn

My 2002 rodeo that was purchased may 13, 2003 has just been towed to the dealership as the transmission has gone out at 32,600 miles. dealership called & said there would be a problem with the powertrain warranty as i was not the original owner of the vehicle. i told him - yes i am & that i bought the vehicle from them brand new. i had just had my 30,000 mile check up done on october 30, 2006. at 30,000 miles had to have the tires replaced. previously have had vehicle in the shop for sensor problems & others that i cannot think of right now. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle hesitated when shifting from park to drive. the vehicle jerks forward every time the gear is shifted into drive. upon inspection the independent repair shop determined there is a hole in the piston cover causing the transmission fluid to leak from the vehicle. the piston cover needs replaced.

I have less than 55,000 miles on my 2002 rodeo. a month ago when trying to accelerate, the gear shift from 1 to 2nd was almost impossible. the truck would shake and shudder and start to stall before kicking into gear - making my inability to operate very susceptible to accidents (luckily i had none). i took to a local mechanic who informed me that my transmission my be shot completely - i had leaked 4 qrts of fluid with no indication that i was low. when he ordered the part from the local dealer - he admitted to me that with other vehicles it is rare that these parts are available and need to be back ordered and that b/c they had on hand this must be a common problem. he sealed the leaks (there were several). however, this has not solved the problem the transmission is still leaking and i'm not sure is there would be any resolve with replacing the entire transmission. if this is a common problem with rodeo transmission and is a defective part then a recall is in order.

I have a 2002 isuzu rodeo ls with a six cylinder engine and a 2 wheel drive automatic transmission. the transmission is sealed and the owner's manual requires service at 120,000 miles. i have never driven the vehicle under extreme conditions, and i have never towed anything behind the vehicle. nonetheless, my transmission recently started to shudder and lurch when the vehicle initially accelerated from low to second gear. when this problem began, the vehicle had about 55,500. the problem grew progressively worse, and i took it for service at about 56,000. the dealership to which i took the car advised me that a part in the transmission had gone bad and that they had seen similar problems with similar vehicles and that isuzu had a replacement part to correct this problem. if it is indeed a defective part, i think a recall may be warranted for safety reasons. most notably, the problem caused my car to momentarily stop accelerating in low gear, and on one occasion, the delayed acceleration caused a close call because my car momentarily stalled in the middle of a left-hand turn. the other concern is that after shuddering and not accelerating, the vehicle would suddenly catch the gear and lurch forward, again, a safey concern due to the unexpected movement of the car.*ak
