Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with trw seat belt buckle assemblies. the buckle base of these seat belt assemblies were not properly heat treated and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, seat belt assemblies.
Consequence SummaryIn the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and change, if necessary, the seat belt buckles.
NotesOwner notification began october 2000. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact jaguar at 1-800-452-4827. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jaguar s-type. the contact stated the vehicle rolled backwards while in park and the transmission was replaced twice. the vehicle was taken back to the transmission mechanic who performed a diagnostic test which located the failure within the transmission cable. the contact also stated that the rear seats and seat belt buckle were defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.

 Consumer was at an intersection making a left turn, and another motorist hit her on driver's side of door. vehicle accelerated and ran into a tree. upon impact, dual airbags didn't go off. also, driver's side seatbelt didn't hold her in. dealership was aware of problem.*ak
