The car is a 2003 x-type jaguar with automatic transmission. mileage is 50,139. driving on interstate highway, the transmission produced a loud clanking sound and the engine began to race. this occurred 2 more times, so i exited the interstate and was able to pull into a shopping center parking lot. the transmission at this point would not downshift to accommodate the lower speed and remained in a high gear. after restarting and attempting to move the vehicle, reverse could not be engaged. the car was then towed 90 mile to my home jaguar dealer who has serviced the car since new. diagnostics show that the transfer case must be replaced, at a cost of $4000. *tr

Movement is difficult to predict. at 15 mph significant upshifting. problem occurs in coasting at 20 mph down to 10 mph. as you decelerate car lurches into fisrt gear. making brake distance impossible to predict. causing accidents at traffic stopping points. also significant lurching at 15mph, 40mph and then after 70mph. car is an automatic and drives like a manual, is the primary concern and stopping distance is unpredictable. (transmission issue after three services in the first year) service secretary/manager argues that automobile is fine without test driving. mechanic joined in test drive and quickly noted that a problem exists yet fix was only temporary. *ak

This is now the 3rd occassion of apparent transmission surges while driving at freeway speed. after pressing the accelerator while passing another car, the engine rpm shot up to 9000, while to car failed to accelerate causing a near collision. the prior 2 occurences were while driving at 40-50mph, the car suddenly downshifts with a grinding noise and a clunk from the engine compartment.*ak

I pulled intp a slot on a parking deck. when i tried to change the gear to park the car lunged forward crashing into a retaining wall. it was pushing against the wall so hard i was afraid i would go through the wall or over the wall. i was on the second level of the deck. when i put the car in reverse it sped backward and struck a car parked behind me. it then crashed into a concrete wall spun around and crashed the drivers door into a concrete piller it then straightened up and sped straight backward crashing into a 4 ft high wall where the engine cut off.*ak

2003 x-type jaguar purchased in 2007. while driving the on the highway the dash lights for check engine and no cruise control came on. the thermostat needle quickly went to the limit on gauge. the car shut down with no control and had to pull off to side of road. 17 tires. all had to be replaced at one point or another as the rims are soft and dent or damages easily. control arms have been replaced twice. stereo system is not compatible with anything. the washer wipers are always clogged up. the radiator has overheated and has been replaced. i have had the transfer case completely replaced. jaguar dealership said at one point the repairs would be close to $10,000. there is only 160,000 km on this car. it is unsafe. i cannot resell it to anyone. i am stuck with it till it dies and is paid for. never buy this car. everything imaginable is wrong with it and i can only drive it around town.

I own the following automobile: 03 jaguar x-type sajea51d33xc89540. this car was purchased in july of 2002, from howard orloff jaguar in chicago illinois. this car has given me nothing but problems. i have had the car serviced several times last year, for engine ticking, and the check engine light coming one. this year, i have had this car serviced three times for the following: 1. tick in the engine 2. leather discoloring 3. carpet coming from under molding 4. heating vents coming out of dashboard 5. rain sensors not working' 6. windshield wipers not automatically working 7. hole in carpet on driver's side 9. being locked out on several occasions, the alarm switches were not working, and the key would not open the door. 10. the transmission gear box has been replaced, because the transmission jerks, and there was a ticking sound coming from the gear box. 11. the car would not start; they had to replace the battery. i am having the car towed tomorrow for the following reasons: 1. ticking in the engine 2. the check engine light keeps coming on 3. abs system malfunction light comes on 4. there was an excessive amount of brown stuff leaking from under my car yesterday. 5. when i got in the car and cut on the heat, i did not have any heat. 6. the car would not start, three times in a row...then it just started up 7. the car will not allow you to take the key out of the ignition although this is an entry level jaguar, the car does not have that many miles on it, and it should not be giving me these major problems...especially the same issues over, and over again. *nm
