Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket napa, raybestos, ac delco, aimco, carquest, and bendix brake hydraulic master cylinders and has no relation to any original equipment installed on daimlerchrysler or ford vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger and multi-purpose vehicles originally sold or currently registered in the states of connecticut, illinois, indiana, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, or wisconsin, and the district of columbia. the front disc brake rotors can experience severe corrosion if operated for an extensive period in the salt belt. if the rotors are not replaced, the corrosion can eventually compromise the structural integrity of the stamped steel center hub section of the rotor.
Consequence SummaryThe reduced strength can allow the cast iron wear surface to separate from the hub, reducing the brake effectiveness of the vehicle.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace these rotors with rotors that are coated with a corrosion protection.
NotesOwner notification began june 5, 2000. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-992-1997.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

The abs light keeps coming on. the pad/shoes were replaced at 72,000 miles for the second time. i notice on the faq section there are a lot of complaints regarding the brake system. the manual indicates the brakes will self adjust and the light will go out. the light goes out but within a day it comes on intermittently. do you or the manufacturer have suggestions on a remedy for this problem?

Have taken vehicle in for brake repairs on three different occassions - twice while in warranty and once after warranty - rotors were finally replaced on last visit after complaining persistantly and speaking with the gm at dealership. the problem is occuring again and is worse than ever. when brakes are applied the vehicle vibrates and brake pedal pulsates and try's to vear of course to the left or right. it is more pronounced at highway speeds. heavy pressure must be applied to get the vehicle to stop and there is a narrow window of when it's just enough pressure to stop normally and when the brakes want to grab to quickly..*ak

After vehicle is parked in rainy weather, the brakes are extremely grabby. during a moderate effort stop, the brakes locked and vehicle went into a skid (locked tires). this has been a problem since new. had dealer look at this problem while under warranty and they found nothing wrong. brakes become less grabby if brakes are applied momentarily while driving (throttle and brake applied at same time) for 5 to 10 seconds. this leads me to believe that there is a corrosion build up that is worn away after brakes are applied several times. a panic stop under grabby conditions would almost certainly result in an accident!

Brake rotors are warped at under 20,000 miles causing pulsating whenever brakes are used. dealer is claiming this is not a defect but due to normal wear and tear.
08/17/1999303/01/1997
In less than 36,000 miles the vehicle was returned (4) times for warpage of front brake rotors. rotors replaced completely (1) time. dealer claimed that this was normal. i contacted (2) independent brake specialists and each indicated excessive heat was causing premature warpage. they suggested it be returned to the dealer for corrective action. i stopped a car wash to hand wash the vehicle and upon spraying the front wheels notice steam coming off the wheel. this indicates substantial over excessive heat. the dealer claimed this was normal and turning of rotors and replacing pads (non warranty) was the only answer. in my opinion this only corrects the symptoms and does not correct the problem. cheap, inferior componentry is my opinion. i shall not by another jeep or chrysler product.
