Tl-the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving in inclement weather at approximately 35 to 45 mph an elk crashed into the vehicle front end. the driver and passenger air bag failed to deploy. the passenger seating in the front seat suffered injuries to the back and head, and the driver suffered injuries to neck and back. the manufacturer advised that the elk did not impact the vehicle at the air bag sensors location therefore the air bags did not deploy. the contact believes the air bag was defective that is why the air bags did not deploy. the air bag light was illuminated before the crashed occurred. the vehicle was destroyed. the police was present a police report was filed. the vin was not available. the vehicle was crashed. the failure and current mileage was 114,000. li

I purchased this vehichle in aug of 2012 and have been having electrical issues that have caused my vehichle to shut of while driving. i have also had issues with starting because the electrical system is failing.i have researched this issue and there are already many complaints on this vehichle with the same issues i'm having. i am very disappointed in this vehichle after spending the money to purchase it with 44,000 miles on it and have had nothing but issues with the electrical system, dash lights, and battery.

My son was a passenger in his 2006 jeep commander when the front driver's side tire blew. the person driving it tried to control the vehicle; however, the vehicle ended up rolling several times. none of the vehicle's airbags deployed. our concern was specifically the side airbags that are suppose to deploy on a roll over. my son suffered a skull fracture on the right side of his head from hitting his head on the window each time the car rolled over. he also suffered broken clavicle, scapula and humerus on the right side. the passenger suffered whip lash and a slight concussion. my son is permanently blind in his right eye and is going through physical and occupational therapy and will continue to do this for the next several months. we have photos of the vehicle upon request. jeep did an investigation and sent me a letter stating that the impact was not sufficient to cause the airbags to deploy. i have a concern about this explanation. it is my understanding that the side curtain airbags are to deploy when the vehicle starts the roll over, not on an impact.

October 2008 we purchased a jeep commander with warranty from carmax modesto, ca.a number of weeks later the airbag light came on and went off, came back on etc. we took it to car max and made inquiries as to trading it in. during the inspection we were told that they couldn't take it back as there was a problem with the transmission the repair it materialized that the windscreen had been damaged and replaced with all of its wiring etc cut and not replace/repaired at carmax roseville, ca before it was sold to us car max told us this themselves. jeep fixed the air bag & transmission but carmax insisted that they repair the windscreen, wipers, wiring etc. before we had the opportunity to turn it in to repair the original repair job the airbag light came back on. 4 weeks ago car max modesto was in receipt of our vehicle and it has yet to be fixed. they couldn't fix it and sent it to jeep. jeep couldn't fix it so they contacted chrysler. we asked them to take back this vehicle; they refused to. when they learned from jeep & chrysler that the repair would cost them $6,000 earlier this week they then decided to consider our request. they decided not to. it has taken nearly 4 weeks to find a way to repair the vehicle as the parts required to complete the job are no longer being produced. but apparently they have come up with a way to work around this! our complaint is 1)unethical sales practices i.e. the sale of a faulty vehicle and the assurances from the sales associate with whom we worked that no work of any significance had been conducted on this vehicle even though it had been worked on by carmax. by their own admission it was sold to us faulty 2) they deem it appropriate to return a vehicle to a family of 4 when its airbag functionality is questionable 3) ineffective post purchase care. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the vehicle was parked in the driveway with the gear shifter in the park position. the contact exited the vehicle and it suddenly began to roll without assistance. the vehicle failed to slow down and rolled approximately 1,500 feet across the street, down a hill, and crashed into a deck at another residence. the vehicle turned onto its side. there was an occupant in the rear passenger seat. the air bags failed to deploy with the massive impact. the failure occurred without warning. the occupant sustained minor injuries and there was personal property damage. the vehicle was completely destroyed. the police and ambulance were called to the scene and a police report was filed. the failure and current mileages were 60,000. updated 03/18/09. *lj updated 03/19/09. *jb

Since the beginning of ownership, this car has stalled many times (as well as other various and odd electrical problems.) many times i can turn the car off and on and it will restart. this does happen in parking lots and highway speeds as well. i have also lost power steering and brakes when in parking lots at a very slow acceleration speed. i have also had air bag warning lights go on and stay on then randomly shut off. the dealer has tried to help resolve but is limited by chrysler's ability to recognize that there is a problem. if there is no code in the cars computer, there is no problem and can't be duplicated. if the problem can't be duplicated, there is no repair. but it keeps happening over and over. i have filed a complaint with chrysler with no resolve. the dealership has had my car and drove it for 3 weeks to try to duplicate the problem. since it is so random and they just didn't get enough time/miles in, the problem didn't happen. it stalled again about 3 weeks after that pulling out of my driveway. there has been no repair, because chrysler says there is no problem. i have been in the middle of an intersection with a 15 year old on a permit driving with oncoming traffic. i have had this car since march 2006 and this has been occurring many times repeatedly since then. not all have been documented and because it occasionally happens on weekends or holidays, i have no ability to get it in to a dealership. in order for them to be able to read a code, i would have to leave the car in a stalled position wherever it occurred and have it towed directly to the dealer. this is highly impractical and unsafe. especially scary at high speeds on the highway. i do not want to be a casualty of chrysler's failure to recognize that there are thousands of these vehicles out there doing this exact same thing. do a google search see the #'s! something needs to be done!!! *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 40 mph she was sideswiped by a van on the passenger side which caused the vehicle to roll over three to four times. the contact suffered neck, back and shoulder injuries. the vehicle was destroyed. the airbags in the vehicle did not deploy. the manufacturer stated that the right side airbag did not deploy because the impact was not strong enough to cause deployment. the current and failure mileage were 4,000.

I own a jeep commander and it has died on me for now reason now more than 7 times. i was at a stop light, sometimes on the freeway the car just stops. i step on the gas and the car doesn't move the engine shuts off and the steering wheel hardens and doesn't steer. i took it into the jeep dealer where i leased it from and they found nothing wrong with it. they told me that there are other complaints with other commander owners but they have no fix to it. they even told me that when they find what's wrong with someone else's commander they would call me so i guess they still don't know what's wrong this had been happening now a lot lately. i am going to take it back again to the dealer ship and see what they say. the passenger air bag light comes on also every now and then it comes on and stays on for like 5 to 10 minutes then goes off. *tr

I bought a jeep comander in may of 2008, two days later i had to have what was supposed to be a really great new car towed on a rollback to the dealer i had just gotten it from. im driving down the road and it starts making a terrible noise and then it will not turn and just dies in the middle of the road. right in the middle of an intersection with traffic coming at me. since then the same thing happened again as i was driving down the interstate with my children in the car and traffic all around.i drove it straight to the dealership, and also had them tell me it was the driver of the vehicle. i got a rental and they called the next day to say they could find anything wrong with the car. during the winter my car decided to get a mind of its own and when you would turn the heat on you had to have it on high or it wouldn't do anything, but if you drove around a curve to the right it would cut off, if you went around a curve to the left it would cut back on. a couple months later it was time to get brakes and have rotors turned. i also had the stereo worked on because i guess it took lessons from my heater, and would change stations or not turn at all .it still doesn't work right at this point i've kind of given up on it.but then the window s started not going up all the way theywould go halfway up then go back down in the door. i have just taken my car on friday to get new tires, monday for an alignment, where i was told they couldn't do one because my tierod had to much play in it and was a safety concern. my dealership no longer has their license so i had my car taken to the closest jeep place and my warranty couldn't be found and i basically stood on the street to wait for a ride as they closed for the night. but then when i got to talk to them again i needed new brakes and rotors all the way around at a grand total of 600.00 . *tr

Jeep commander with defective side curtain airbags customer states that the owners manual says that the side curtain air bags will deploy in case of roll over but that was not the case in this accident**cc *jb the manufacturer stated, the impact on the right side was not significant enough for the deployment of the curtain airbags.
