While driving down the road, the entire cluster of instrument warning lights begins to flash intermittently, creating a distraction and safety hazard while driving. in addition, the fuel gauge drops to e, the speedometer drops to zero and then goes up and down and all gauges go up and down erratically. also, the heated seats turn off as does the fan for the heater/ac unit. verified with local mechanic that this is not related to the ignition switch and is most likely an ecm and/or pcm issue. replaced battery but problem still exists. engine malfunction indicator light comes on for several cycles, computer reboots itself and then the trouble starts again shortly after. this appears to be an ongoing issue with the 06 commander but my vin was not included in the ecm/pcm recall (08v203000) because i have the 6-cylinder rather than the 8 cylinder engine. this is a safety hazard while driving and i just feel fortunate that as of yet, my car is not stalling like so many others. however, i feel my issue is related to this same recall and want to have it on file.

In the 5 years i have owned the 2006 jeep commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. this happens at no set frequency. sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. the dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. the vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. if i am crossing or turining i need to make sure i have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and i get stuck in the intersection. the cruise control no longer works. luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so i can't use it. the cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. i will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until i put the car in neutral. regardless of what temperature i have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. i can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the jeep commander. i googled jeep commander and there are hundreds (i am sure thousands) of similar complaints.

The interior electrical lighting sytems often goes out while driving in below freezing temperatures. this includes all speedometer, tachometer, and dash lights for all controls. this has been a problem since i purchased the vehicle new in february 2007. after five years, the led lights illuminating the switches for the fan speed, temperature control, and heated seats. i reported this under warranty but now i am told i am responsible for repair. the dealership cannot find the electrical fault. the led switch bulbs cannot simply be replaced as the entire unit for each control must be replaced. the engine was making a pinging sound and the dealership diagnosed it wrong 3 times. this should have been repaired under warranty when first reported. many months later after warrantly lapsed the dealership's corrective fix was replacing one side of the engine's hydraulic lifters. this made the problem a bit better but did not resolve it.

While driving the dash lights went out and headlights started flashing on and off. took it to dealer and they found no trouble. the vehicle keeps blowing rear tail light bulbs, and blower motor at times does not work on certain speeds. cigarette lighter/power outlets stopped working even though fuse is good. power windows intermittently stop working. the transmission went out around 62,000 miles. had dealer replace transmission and now at 102,000 miles the transmission will loose drive when shifting into 3rd under moderate acceleration. you then have to pull off the road and put the car in park, then back in drive to regain drive. transmission also surges under light throttle conditions at low speeds(10-20mph). i have contacted jeep and their response was that because of the mileage on the vehicle they could do nothing. i feel that the flashing lights and the loss of drive while in traffic are major safety issues. i have been researching this vehicle and found may other owners with the exact same problems.

I purchased the 2006 commander in june 2010. the first 6 weeks i had the vehicle i loved it. the first incident i had with the vehicle was the service park assist warning came on and stayed on for two days, then went off on its own prior to getting an appointment to have it checked. the next incident happened when i was idling in traffic at a stoplight. every indicator light on the dash came on and the vehicle started to stall but did not completely stall out. since that episode i have had issues with the driver side front window and passenger side rear window not functioning properly (at times won't roll up or down from either control). more recently i have had increasing episodes (two to three times per month) of the dash lighting up, headlights dimming and the vehicle losing power (so far always while parked or shifting from park to drive), as well as the service park assist warning and window issues. after hearing of a coworker with a 2007 commander having some of the same issues i began searching the internet and have found numerous complaints of the same issues as mine. i am afraid to drive this vehicle with my children inside in the event that it would stall out on the highway and i would not be able to control it. i spoke with the dealer that sold me the vehicle yesterday and they have agreed to look at it free of charge this morning since there is no warranty on it now, but i still am not sure i want to keep this vehicle any longer. chrysler needs to recall these vehicles and fix this issue. i used to be a die hard jeep fan...but no longer! i am surprised that i have not found any reports of death or serious injury as a result of these electrical issues with this particular model.

Headlights and interior lights shut off while driving at night at highway speed, but the radio remained on and the engine was also working. all the lights on the instrument panel flipped on and then off with the exception of the base esp and the traction control lights, they stayed on. power steering and power brakes were working and if it had not been dark out, could have drove home. the vehicle did come back to normal working order within a few seconds. this record of events happened 3 times within a few minutes at 10 pm and was very scary. i brought the vehicle to the jeep dealership and they replaced the power junction block. they said there were multiple codes they found in the system but the fault that leaped out to them was u0200. *tr

During regular drive of the car, i experienced major electrical shut down. it does not happen very often. i noticed that is happening in summer time more often than in winter time. i noticed it for a first time 2 years ago and reported to local service dealer. they told me to keep an eye on it and to tell them if i notice any trend. except for summer/winter, i couldn't notice any other trend. last summer it was happening quite often and after bringing it to the service, they couldn't find cause of the problem. i think they performed some recall firmware update (08v-203 i think) but i still have same electrical problem. i don't have engine stall however. last night (july 3rd 2009) it happen to me for the first time during night and i just realized how serious safety issue it actually is. while driving home with my family, everything in the car (headlights, ac , stereo (except lcd display) all lights on the dashboard (except p r n d gear indication)) went off for a few seconds and came back on. it happened 15-20 times in 30 minutes time frame. at one point after ~10th interruption, check engine light came on (error code u1411). so, all lights disappeared while driving at night putting me and my family at risk of an serious accident. i don't have confidence in this car any more unless there is a permanent fix for this problem. *tr

Reference complaints 10244597, 10247128. today, driving in the rain, lights dimmed and car hesitated, eventually stalling while in motion. while we were at a stop, the car again stalled and took several tries to restart. i no longer drive with the children in the car, and have not since the previous incident at 61k. i have tried contacting jeep through my dealer, with no response. today i sent an email via their website, however, i am not hopeful of any response. this will be the final time i will file a complaint, as i have called the bank and told them to come and get the car. i can only hope that the person who considers purchasing my car, as i am sure another unscrupulous salesman will put the car up for sale, does his or her research and finds the complaints i have filed here and with the pa attorney general's office. *tr

November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) november 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) december 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when i had all kids with me?it was prior to nov 24 but i do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, i lost the ability to steer and brake as well. the mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. there were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. nothing seemed to standout as a possible trigger i took car to dealer after the november 24th incident. tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could make happen when they drove it. a few days later i wrecked into a mailbox when my jeep stalled and i lost steering and braking capability....i am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree. *tr

11/15/20062000906/09/2006
I purchased a 2006 jeep commander last year. i have had the following items replaced on my jeep front passenger interior door panel. strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. my passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. i had a problem where my car kept stalling. i was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. it died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. i also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as i drove or would flash on and off. they replaced the headlight switch. i have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. from the beginning i have told them i do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when i shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. i have been told no error is appearing on computer and that jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. the last time i had it in when it was stalling i told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. it is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. i am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. i blame jeep/chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. they need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us. *tr
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - TURN SIGNAL - SWITCH
05/09/200630202/27/2006
Turn signals have 4 modes right turn or left turn - moving switch fully-up or fully-down locks it into a right or left mode until cancelled right lane change or left lane change - moving the switch partially-up or partially-down against a detent signals a lane change to the right or left that is immediately cancelled upon release conditions exist where the left lane change mode does not activate. this was reported and the conditions to duplicate the situation were demonstrated. the dealer agreed that the switch should not behave in the manner demonstrated and attempted to repair the issue by replacing the switch. on delivery, the turn signal still malfunctioned under the same conditions. the vehicle was again taken to the same dealer a second time. the dealer researched the issue by recreating the conditions on other vehicles on the lot and determined that the condition is intrinsic to the design of the switch and relates a design fault in the switch and not a bad part. one generally activates the signal with ones hands still on the steering wheel. therefore, pushing down to activate the left lane change mode, as applied with the index or middle finger, creates both a downward and forward force on the stalk due to the angle of application. when applied, that is a downward force to activate the left lane change signal mode along with a forward force as one would expect based on the angle of application, the left lane change signal mode fails the operate because the contact in the turn signal switch lifts off its mating contact and opens the circuit. i have gone through the motions to activate the left lane change signal mode, thinking that it had activated, only to find that the signal did not operate as it should have. this poses a safety hazard as other motorists are not alerted to my intentions and may not compensate for my intended lane change and also subjects me to a violation of my state vehicle code. *jb
