I was driving 25 miles and hit a bump. noise starting coming from under the middle row seat. checked under the car, could see no issues. brought it to 2 mechanics could not see problem. drove car everything was fine until hit a bump and the noise starting again. brought it back to the mechanic and could not see or here problem. called chrysler and was told that this is a common occurence and that the brake cable falls down and hits the differential and the drive shaft. i asked if this was a recall issue and they said no that i would have to cover repairs. contacted jeep dealer and it is going to be $350 for repair. i believe this should be a safety recall as if it continues to happen breaks can fail.

Took car to dealer to have recall #07v434000 -service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module on certain sport utility vehicles, the software programmed into the abs electronic control module may allow a momentary delay in braking when coasting up a hill during certain conditions--could cause crash! when the dealer corrected the recall issue, the abs module failed--this was in north carolina where car was bought initially. took car to pennsylvania dealer to have the abs module installed. waited for new module when it arrived 2 weeks later, dealer said that new modules were failing and could not be fixed and that detroit was saying they knew they had a problem and were attempting to correct. i called jeep customer service and they said all they could do was tell me what already had been told by dealer that they were waiting for a fix/new components from jeep. customer service checked with both dealerships and again reiterated that detroit was attempting to fix the problem and as soon as they did they would send new module. the jeep is now being driven w/o abs or the esp modules, both lights are on and car keeps alerting to get service. my insurance gives me a discount for having abs but now i am driving w/o them. i am afraid to drive the car since the initial recall said that a crash could occur. during winter driving having to stop quickly can occur from out of nowhere, now i do not have abs or esp. this is an accident waiting to happen. jeep does not seem to care. their customer service rep suggested that the only thing they could tell me was to contact my state attorney general and file a complaint--which i have done. there was another car in the pa dealership with the same problem as mine--no abs or eps after attempting to fix the initial recall problem. how many more cars are having this problem? please investigate before there is a death. thank you. *cn

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 jeep comander. while driving the vehicle around 55 mph and you hit a bump in the road, he heard a loud shattering sounding, and he pulled to the side of the highway. looked under- neath the vehicle everything was intact. got back in the vehicle, turn on the engine, and put the gears in drive, the noise started back up again. he turn off the engine, put the gears in reverse, and started the engine back up again, it drove ok without the noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. a diagnostic test was done. he was told by the mechanic, the retainer clip broke and it causes the emergency brake cable to hang down and and hit the drive shaft, that was what was causing the noise. a new clip was put in, the brake cable was repaired. he has spoken to jeep manufacturer to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else, he was told this is not a common occurrence. the failure miles was 100,000. and the current miles was 101,000.....dwh

Problems began 1 day after commander went in to dealer for the regular 3,000mile oil change, that car was returned to me after that oil change, as 'good to go'; w/in 24 hours of that oil change, the commander would not start and required a new starter (30k miles). after the starter was replaced, the commander was stalling if - in the middle of a slight incline it had to brake and then resume - at the resume it would stall. also, after starter replaced dashboard lights blinking; transmission cooler lines leaking, power steering line from pump to cooler leaking, and front and back brake rotors had to be replaced (42k miles) 60k miles, the cruise control turns on by itself and the rear park assist turns off by itself; the water leak into front passenger well. speaking with custom relations at chrysler corporate regarding cruise control, rear assist and water leak problems they told me that they were not aware of these being a problem for most commander customers; however, chrysler jeep is aware of these problems as evidenced by the technical service bulletins published on them yet chrysler jeep does not issue a recall/take fiscal responsibility for their manufacturer defects. more: chrysler jeep expects me to pay them to diagnose the problems so that then so long as i have paid a dealer to repair them they will consider (not necessarily approve; in the past they have in fact denied me reimbusement to fix these problems for which they have technical service bulletins on) refunding me total or partial cost of repairs. more: i was only informed of a safety recall regarding ebc module (brake) when i called in last week (12/2011) regarding the water leak & cruise control problem. making this more poignant, the reason for this recall - that i was not notified about when it was first issued- is a brake issue that i had detailed to chrysler jeep in 2009!

The recirculation assembly on my 2006 jeep commander keeps on braking. i have had it replaced two times within the last 6 months, and this morning, i went to turn on the heat, and i heard it snap again. when it brakes, air comes into the cabin of the car no matter what the position of your a/c or heat controls. even if you have them off, air still comes in since the recirculation door is broken. i cannot be the only one experiencing this issue. *tr

I bought a jeep comander in may of 2008, two days later i had to have what was supposed to be a really great new car towed on a rollback to the dealer i had just gotten it from. im driving down the road and it starts making a terrible noise and then it will not turn and just dies in the middle of the road. right in the middle of an intersection with traffic coming at me. since then the same thing happened again as i was driving down the interstate with my children in the car and traffic all around.i drove it straight to the dealership, and also had them tell me it was the driver of the vehicle. i got a rental and they called the next day to say they could find anything wrong with the car. during the winter my car decided to get a mind of its own and when you would turn the heat on you had to have it on high or it wouldn't do anything, but if you drove around a curve to the right it would cut off, if you went around a curve to the left it would cut back on. a couple months later it was time to get brakes and have rotors turned. i also had the stereo worked on because i guess it took lessons from my heater, and would change stations or not turn at all .it still doesn't work right at this point i've kind of given up on it.but then the window s started not going up all the way theywould go halfway up then go back down in the door. i have just taken my car on friday to get new tires, monday for an alignment, where i was told they couldn't do one because my tierod had to much play in it and was a safety concern. my dealership no longer has their license so i had my car taken to the closest jeep place and my warranty couldn't be found and i basically stood on the street to wait for a ride as they closed for the night. but then when i got to talk to them again i needed new brakes and rotors all the way around at a grand total of 600.00 . *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact heard a loud noise when the brake pedal was depressed, followed by no response. the contact made several attempts before the vehicle came to a complete stop. immediately, the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the speedometer and numerous instrument panel gauges stopped working. the vehicle stalled unexpectedly and the warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle restarted and was able to resume normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing, but they could not duplicate the failures. they suggested that the ignition could be the cause of the failures. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. the failure mileage was 30,010 and current mileage was 92,000.

It started out that the car was acting up, every warning light was illuminated, the speedometer and tachometer were going all over the place (like they were bouncing). we took it in to the dealer and they said we would have to bring the car back in when it was still doing this, because they plugged it in to the computer and couldn't find anything wrong. so to the dismay of my wife we took the car back even though they couldn't find anything wrong with it. about a week later my wife was pulling into the mall (on the 29th of dec.), it was extremely busy, so the mall had flagmen out directing traffic. she was on a downhill ramp waiting for the flagmen to let her go. as she was sitting there stopped the instrument panel started going nuts again. at that moment her foot, which was on the brake went straight to the floor, she had lost all brake pressure in the pedal. as she was pumping the brakes she had to honk and wave to the flagmen that she couldn't stop and to move. she had traveled about a 100 feet and finally came to a stop when the car hit the one that was further downhill from her. we call reuther jeep and told them what had happened and they said to tow the car to their shop and they would give us a rental car. they told me to contact chrysler and have them do an investigation. they did they investigation (without driving the car) plugged it into the computer, and later told me that there was no problem with the car, and we should contact our insurance company. no other explanation was given. i did some searching online and found numerous instances where this seems to be a problem and falls in line with the recall that chrysler had recently done on the 64000+ cars. i don't want this car back, i don't feel it is safe and i fear for my wife and kids that are always in this car. we leased the vehicle i don't see why they should be able to make this right. i just want a safe vehicle for my wife and kids. *nm

November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) november 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) december 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when i had all kids with me?it was prior to nov 24 but i do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, i lost the ability to steer and brake as well. the mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. there were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. nothing seemed to standout as a possible trigger i took car to dealer after the november 24th incident. tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could make happen when they drove it. a few days later i wrecked into a mailbox when my jeep stalled and i lost steering and braking capability....i am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree. *tr

I have experienced 3 separate accidents on may 31 2006, august 2 2006 and september 20 2007 with the 2006 jeep commander limited. i had just left the stop sign in the first accident and proceeded into the intersection of a 2-way stop. my vehicle stalled and i collided with a grand am. the driver of that vehicle has filed a civil action against me in which metlife auto & casualty has hired an attorney to represent me. i was found to be primarily at fault for this accident. the lawsuit is claiming i was negligent. the second accident occurred when i was turning around to get a better shot into a private driveway. i successfully turned around in a parking area across the street from the driveway and i was in the process of entering the driveway when my vehicle stalled and my driver side front bumper was struck, breaking the tie rod. the police and the other party's insurance found the other driver who was 93 to be at fault for the accident. the third accident occurred on september 20 2007, when i was attempting to turn left on a green light from a turn lane. i was in the process of turning left when another driver who was speeding collided with my vehicle which had stalled during the left hand turn. the passenger front bumper was damaged including a broken tie rod. the other driver's insurance has determined i am primarily at fault for that accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. when the contact started the vehicle, the headlights and instrument panel gauges would not illuminate. he stated that the instrument panel gauges failed to work as well. when the steering wheel was turned in either direction without applying the brakes, the abs would engage and the vehicle decelerated. the contact felt the pulsating vibration through the steering wheel and heard the abs engage. the failure occurred while driving 25 mph and greater. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure, however, they reset the codes in the vehicle. two weeks later, while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a different dealer and they replaced the remote start module. the contact also stated that the check engine and four wheel drive lights would often illuminate and dim automatically. the current and failure mileages were 20,000.

My husband and i are leasing a 2006 jeep commander since nov 2005. i have been involved in 3 separate traffic accidents on may 31 2006, august 8 2006 and september 20 2007. the engine stalled during low speed turns on both august 8 2006 and september 20 2007. i had just left a stop sign on may 31 2006 when my engine stalled in the intersection, resulting in a crash. i was cited for failure to yield on may 31 2006. i wasn't cited on august 8 2006 or september 20 2007, although the police report from the september 20 2007 accident describes a failure to yield. i have also had ongoing tire pressure issues as well as intermittent brake failure issues. prior to may 31 2006 i had never been involved in a traffic accident nor had i received any traffic citations. i am 48 years old. my vehicle was repaired twice after the first 2 accidents, but i am awaiting contact from the other party's auto insurer before proceeding with the repairs following yesterday's accident. i've brought the 2006 jeep commander in to bud mulcahy's jeep on several occasions. that dealership is now closed. *tr

A number of times we have had a temporary but a complete brake failure in the same spot in the same road. this has only happened after a cold start, with me driving. my wife has witnessed the failure twice, so she now knows i'm not crazy. the road is good and up hill, approaching a stop sign. the only consequences so far are some grey hair. the intersection in question is a 55 mph intersection. a number of times i have almost ran into traffic. fortunately i approach the intersection slow enough to get off the road and stay out of traffic. the car has been back to the dealer 3 times. i am satisfied that the dealer has done everything in there power to fix the car. i have contacted the manufacture a couple of times about this problem. they could not care less. *tr

My wife experienced brake failure and was forced to move into the left lane to avoid hitting the car in front of her. she was traveling at a low rate of speed, less than 10 mph, as she approached a stop light. the vehicle was on a slight incline, and the anti-lock brakes pulsated, then, the brake went completely to the floorboard. she immediately took the vehicle to the dealership, and was told that other customers had complained of the same problem, and daimler chrysler had been contacted, but had done nothing to solve this obviously very dangerous safety problem. *ak

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in oct. 2005 from mccune chrysler jeep in national city, ca. initially, i started noticing my brakes shimmying as i came to a stop. i reported to my dealership a few times but no good came out of it. then, last thursday, sept. 13, i noticed my dashboard lights (electrical system, brakes and transmission lights) flashing on and off as i accelerated from a stop and headed uphill. it felt as though the jeep wanted to stop and go at the same time. i reported it to my dealership and brought in the vehicle the next week. the dealership quoted me $190 to analyze it (since my jeep was about 8,000 miles beyond the warranty period). then, they told me that it would cost me over $400 to repair the vehicle even though they did not know what was wrong with it. i began to research the internet about recalls on this make and model and found that chrysler had issued a recall on friday, sept. 14, 2007. i printed the article and brought it to my service rep at mccune. the rep insisted that it was not my problem and that his dealership had not heard of a recall on my make and model. so, i called chrysler's customer service department in oak ridge, tn. the representatives there insisted that there was no recall. frustrated, i accepted the dealerships offer to repair my vehicle. they quoted me a $100 deductible to place the vehicle under warranty. as i drove off, the same thing happened all over again. i called the service advisor and explained what had happened. he insisted that he test drove the vehicle and the lights never came on. i didn't believe him. i feel that he mislead me and that his dealership never repaired my vehicle. i will bring my vehicle back to mccune monday morning (9/24/07) and i will see what will happen. i paid for a rental vehicle last week (over $100 and the dealership never offered to cover my expenses. i am so frustrated. *tr

Pulsating of brakes when applied to come to a stop. asked dealership 2x to check. first time was told they were fine, second time they took out for a test drive and experienced the pulsing. inspected the brake system and found that all 4 rotors were not worn down, but were warped. they explained that it was most likely caused by being heated up by frequently stopping short. i have been driving for 30 years and have had many vehicles and never an issue with replacing rotors after 2 years, not due to the life of the rotor, but warping. i have been in the same job for 23 years and driving the same roads. i do not frequently stop short or ride my brakes. if anything i utilize the feature of down shifting as not to apply the brakes as often. i was told that when i bought this vehicle there should not be any issues because it was a first model because it was based on the jeep grand cherokee. i have noticed that there was a class action suit regarding the brakes on that model. *tr
