| Out of the blue the whole radio/cd/navigation console went out! the radio still works, but only the preset stations and i can only control it from the steering wheel. then i noticed that the air bag light(on instrument panel) is turning on and off and beeping each time. there have also been water issues coming from the sunroof, soaking the floor boards in mainly the passenger side but sometimes also the drivers side. this only happens when the vehicle is parked. *tr | |||

| Driver side floor has had approx 1-2 inches of water after raining on multiple occasions. local jeep dealer said the sunroof drain was clogged. this has never happened while driving, only when the vehicle is parked. it's pretty pricey to have these drains unclogged and from reading all the other complaints about this same problem on edmunds, it is a consistent service that needs done. i am very frustrated because this sounds like a defect on chrysler's part, but nothing has been done about it. when this water floods my floor it stinks in the vehicle. i also notice flies and gnats. i am afraid of mold, dry rot and electrical issues. my radio is going out and i believe the water has something to do with this. i never had problems with the radio until this started. the screen is no longer clear, the gps doesn't work, the uconnect hands free doesn't work properly anymore and the radio randomly changes stations on its own. *tr | |||

| Inside doors failing all four are cracked the driver side passenger does not open from the inside. if in an accident they might all fail and then no one will be able to exit the car, if a fire happens or we just need to get out for other reason. we will need to open windows, to open door from outside, whch might not be possible if wrecked and windows fail. if replaced and defect is not fixed it dealers will not help and average price ias 450.00 dollars per door. when we purchased the jeep in 2008 we not informed of this problem. thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. | |||

| My 2006 jeep commander has had a number of defects. the most costly has been that it leaks when it rains or goes through a car wash. i have had the sunroof clean out and the problems fixed in september but it has begun leaking again. when the vehicle had 38,000 miles on it i had to have the bearings in the driverside front wheel replaced costing me over 300.00 dollars. my mechanics informed me that the vehicle was to young to be having this part replaced. i'm just currently waiting for something else to go bad on my young vehicle. *tr | |||

| My 2006 commander with 40,000 miles has had the following problems since it came off the lot. the vehicle stalls and i obviously lose power and steering but there are no error messages in the computer, the 4wd does not engage - the warning light for that comes on but there's no error message in the computer. the window's roll up and down incorrectly - the gasket on the exhaust manifold has been replaced and the kicker of all problems is when the vehicle goes through a minor puddle of water or the automatic car wash the steering wheel locks completely until the water is gone - try driving that in the rain - jeep was finally able to duplicate that problem by putting a garden hose under the car and squirting water on the underside of the vehicle - this problem apparently cannot be fixed and they can't believe that no other jeep owner's aren't throwing fits. so much for the lemon law - the steering problem wasn't taken seriously by the previous jeep dealers -i went to a different dealer altogether however, it's too late. *tr | |||

| 2006 jeep commander the ignition key is located at knee height and perpendicular to the dash. i have accidentally turned off the car while driving at least three times. this occurs when moving the right knee side to side. because the key is horizontally located it rotates with little force if striking the dangling keys with the knee. a proper design would be having the ignition on the steering column, or having a slight superior angle to the key ignition. this is easily reproduced on all commander vehicles. *tr | |||

| Jeep commanders share a faulty interior door handle assembly problem. the shape of the handle may be different in each model, however the problem is with the incorrect resin mix which results in a brittle and crumbling material causing failure just the same. this is obviously a manufacturer?s defect, however it?s a fault that is not covered under jeep?s warranty. there?s no recall or service bulletin. until recently, the only fix was replacing the entire door panels. chrysler designed the interior door panels on the jeep commander in such a way that the entire door panel had to be replaced rather than just the door handle. the interior door handle is plastic welded at certain points from the backside of the door panel. *tr | |||

| I own a 2006 jeep commander with 78k miles and the driver front and passanger rear doors have shattered behind the handle causing the handle to become usless from the inside. i feel this is a safty issue as no one can exit the vehicle from those door in the event of an emergency. after doing a little research i have found that this problem is not a one time occurance and is happening more and more often. the cost to replace the whole door panel is well over $600.00 each and that from my understanding is the only fix to this little cheap piece of plastic breaking. lets hope this is fixed before some one is hurt or killed. *tr | |||

| I own a 2006 jeep commander with 78k miles and the driver front and passanger rear doors have shattered behind the handle causing the handle to become usless from the inside. i feel this is a safty issue as no one can exit the vehicle from those door in the event of an emergency. after doing a little research i have found that this problem is not a one time occurance and is happening more and more often. the cost to replace the whole door panel is well over $600.00 each and that from my understanding is the only fix to this little cheap piece of plastic breaking. lets hope this is fixed before some one is hurt or killed. | |||

| When i bought my 2006 jeep commander from burns motors i did not notice that the driver door handle (plastic cup where handle goes) was cracked. sure enough when my husband was driving he leaned his knee on the door and there was a loud pop and handle cup came off in about 3-4 pieces. i then noticed that the passenger door handle cup was also cracked, so within a few months it came off in several pieces too. now with about 2 years with this vehicle, i have all 4 door handles broken. i have also gotten an estimate at the dealership when i took it for service and got an estimate of about 1,200 for 2 doors only. i have also check for parts online and you need to a door to get this piece which ranges from 600 to 1000 dollars for 1 door. now i am starting to get very concerned for the saftey issues since i have 3 kids and wouldn't even what to think, what would happen if i needed to get out in case of an emergency. i have also had my passenger companions find it very frustrating to open from outside or wait for somene to open door for them. there should be a safety recall since we are a lot of customers with the same issue and nothing has been done from chrysler company. thanks for taking the time to read my concern. greatly appreciated and hope something gets done to help the many customers like me that are concern about their safety. | |||

| The driver side door latch of our 2006 jeep commander 4x4 suffered a failure causing the door to not be able to be opened from the inside of the car posing a significant safety risk. the door latch is a plastic pull which is part of the one-piece molded plastic door panel. the plastic behind our door latch started to crack over time and upon a family member closing the door and the door panel coming in contact with the individual's leg, the door latch completely detached from the door panel causing it to float inside the door cavity. the door latch then fell apart and the only way to open the driver side door is to reach inside the hole in the cavity to find what the door latch was attached to. having the door latch only secured to thin molded plastic of the door panel is a design which led to our safety failure and we are not the only individuals with this issue. upon researching online, there are dozens of other individuals who have had one if not multiple door latch failures in early 2006 jeep commanders causing a safety risk. the issues occurs at various mileage points and often with little to no wear/tear and it appears dealerships are not consistently replacing these parts under warranty. one example of multiple people that have this issue can be found on the four pages of comments here: http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthread.php?t=656 as the door panels and door latch appears to be either poorly engineered or poorly manufacturered leading to a safety risk, we wanted to submit this complaint form in hopes that this safety issue will be addressed, possibly as a recall. thank you for your time. | |||

| In 2009, three years after we purchased our jeep commander, three of the plastic interior door handles on the vehicle broke, making it difficult or impossible to open the vehicle doors from the inside. this is a very well documented problem among owners and dealers for 2006 and 2007 models, and not surprisingly because the housing and hinge are made entirely of plastic, and are very brittle. after a few years of use the plastic starts to crack and then break away, and the inner handle will not function. this is particularly true in tropical climates. this should be an easy fix, but unfortunately in order to replace the handle you need to replace the entire door panel. in puerto rico, the cost of the driver's panel is $747, plus they charge you two hours of labor to install the new panel. it is evident that this is a legitimate safety issued, caused by defective design. apparently chrysler agrees, because in 2008 they changed the interior handle design. however, those of us with 2006 or 2007 models are left with either an existing or expected hazard. even if you have the money to invest into replacing these panels, the flimsy design will not hold up, and you can expect that at any moment the new handles will break again. the defective design of these handles makes them particularly susceptible to being damaged or broken in an accident or emergency situation. it is unconscionable that chrysler has not recalled them, given the inordinate number of complaints with this precise part. | |||

| I've noticed that my jeep is a money hungry machine. i bought it because i had previously owned a jeep cherokee lmt and needed something bigger and safer to haul around the boys i nanny. i bought it thinking i would have it for awhile. i have reported several safety and hazardous problems to nhtsa already. i have another complaint now. i have three rather large rust spots around my rear license plate on the tail gate. they have a warranty for rust up to 100,000 miles. i took it in to get repaired because i have 94,000 miles and they wont fix it because they state that it needs to be rusted through. i have not found in any form that it needs to be rusted through but they still wont fix it. the paint on both bumpers are peeling off and both have large black spots from the bumper being exposed. they wont help fix any of this. i am going to have to paint the entire thing which is going to be a very expensive out of pocket expense. i bought this jeep thinking it's american made and i should stick with them. quite frankly they have the worse costumer service of anyone i have been. i want to just get rid of the vehicle but they messed me over on my interest rate and my loan is still huge. i have refinanced and got with a company that treats me like a person. chrysler also messed up my credit rating by reporting that i went months without payment. i paid them and have disputed my credit. chrysler i realize were going into bankruptcy at the time of my vehicle purchase but that's no way to treat paying customers. my next vehicle will be a foreign for sure. im sick and tired of paying all these expenses when i picked an expensive vehicle so this wouldn't happen. it just sucks being in and out of shops, running up bill and not getting anything fixed, and being without a vehicle. please look into all these complaints...... alot on here i have experienced with mine, i will continue to leave complaints. it is very time consuming to constantly be doing it. *tr | |||

| Recall notice from chrysler. took commander into shop for repair. after 4 hours, technician stated that unable to download program from corporate computer to fix. need to bring car back later. this is the second time for a recall, and our car has been in there a total of 4 times for safety issues such as broken seat belts. it has been there a number of other visits, starting at 2555 miles, for defective windshield mount, defective gas fill line mount, and defective windshield wiper fluid pump. previous hazards were handled, but resulted in a good number of days of at least 6 hour services. now, after 4 hours, this service is not completed and i have to bring the car back again. *tr | |||

| The rear passenger inside door handle is no longer functioning. there is a piece of plastic within the door that braces the handle so it is secure enough to be able to pull it and open ( unlatch) the door. at this point the door closes but is impossible for the passenger to open the door from the inside. this is a serious safety concern for i have 2 children that ride in the back frequently. my jeep dealer was notified and i was told that is not covered under warranty. my jeep is under 100, 000 miles and for this to happen inside the door where no person can touch this ridiculous. *tr | |||

| Faulty interior door handle assembly problem the problem is with the incorrect resin mix which results in a brittle and crumbling material causing failure just the same. this is obviously a manufacturer defect, however its a fault that is not covered under jeep warranty. the only fix was replacing the entire door panels. chrysler designed the interior door panels on the jeep commander in such a way that the entire door panel had to be replaced rather than just the door handle. the interior door handle is plastic welded at certain points from the backside of the door panel. i understand 2008 models had a door handle redesign so they obviously knew of this problem. thank you for any assistance you can provide. *tr | |||

| The interior door handles are all cracked and 1 out of the 4 works. i have to crawl over the console to exit the vehicle! i am not the only 2006 jeep commander with this design flaw, many have exactly the same problem as i do! chrysler does not want to correct the problem they created. i understand 2008 models had a door handle redesign so they obviously knew of this problem. thank you for any assistance you can provide. this is a major safety concern in the event of wreck, fire, or if you drove into high water. how do you get out of the vehicle quickly...dukes of hazard style?! come on chrysler! *tr | |||

| The door handles where you open and close the door have completely shattered in to pieces by just opening and closing the door normally. i am unable to exit my car properly because the drivers side handle is completely shattered and will not open. i am unable to exit my car without crawling across the seat due to the handle completely crumbling and now other door i use to get out has started to crumble. one of the back doors is starting to break as well and they tell me it will cost over 2800.00 to repair. i don't have that kind of money to fix a door handle. i'm afraid i'm in danger if i have to exit my car in a hurry or my daughter or a riding guest. it's horrible that it just cracks like nothing and they wont take any responsibility. i cannot just open my door and get out of my car. they all being broken is one thing and i believe obviously a flaw on jeeps part, but not being able to get out of my car is dangerous. *tr | |||

| We had the driver door handle break and called chrysler because there are so many complaints on the internet about this. we were advised to take it to a dealer and have it looked at and a report made. we did that and also had pictures taken and sent with the report to chrysler, our case # 22652678 was filed. at the time 2 other door handles were showing cracks. we were turned down for a repair even though it is a safety issue. since that time 2 more handles broke. 2 can not be opened from the inside. we were told they would consider discounting the repair to 1300.00 per door. if they have such a bad design and plastic parts you would think an honorable company would do the recall and repair. we now have a dangerous car with no way to exit in an emergency. at our age we can not be jumping over consoles and seats to exit the car. our children have been advised to sue if anything happens because chrysler does not want to correct the problem they created. i understand 2008 models had a door handle redesign so they obviously knew of the problem. thank you for any assistance you can provide. *tr | |||

| As in many previous year models jeep has allowed its commander to be manufactured with interior door handles attached to very thin and brittle plastic door panels. this allows the door handles to break loose from the panels and make the handle inoperable. in order to exit the vehicle you have to open the window and use the outside handle. this condition obviously can present a very unsafe situation especially in an emergency situation . it happens to all four doors as time goes on so that it becomes dangerous not only for the driver but all the occupants of the vehicle. jeep has not found it in their best interest to recognize this obvious defect therefore you must go thru a long complicated procedure to make any type of claim with no guarantee of a resolution in your favor.i would suggest this condition be determined a danger to the occupants of the vehicle before someone gets seriously hurt or dies because they can't get out the door. in reading various complaints at jeep commander.com there are hundreds of the same scenarios playing out in the same models that jeep manufactures. please try and help correct a serious and dangerous oversite in the design and production of these vehicles. thank you *tr | |||

| 2006 jeep commander 3 out of 4 interior door handles broken due to poor design in my opinion. was told by the dealer it was caused by abuse or normal wear and tear. both rear doors and the drivers door are broken the rear doors are hardly ever used so it isn't from wear and tear or abuse. im afraid if in a collision i would not be able to open the doors from the inside if i had to get out in a hurry.from looking at forums on the web im finding out it is a wide spread problem. in order to correct the problem each door panel must be replaced. chrysler has not redesigned the handles so in a couple of years they will have the same problem. *tr | |||

| Doors leak rust on the hinges now, knocking sound in the engine,be driving down the road all of sudden the jeep will not shift all gears are lit up have to stop shut down for 5 to 10 min. then will be ok been in the shop 10 times told i had electric lifters put a piece of weather strip in the door to fix leak they say rust is normal reset the transmission and a leak on it replaced motors to power windows still don't work right. *tr | |||

| I purchased a 2006 jeep commander last year. i have had the following items replaced on my jeep front passenger interior door panel. strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. my passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. i had a problem where my car kept stalling. i was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. it died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. i also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as i drove or would flash on and off. they replaced the headlight switch. i have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. from the beginning i have told them i do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when i shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. i have been told no error is appearing on computer and that jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. the last time i had it in when it was stalling i told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. it is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. i am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. i blame jeep/chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. they need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us. *tr | |||
