My 2006 commander with 40,000 miles has had the following problems since it came off the lot. the vehicle stalls and i obviously lose power and steering but there are no error messages in the computer, the 4wd does not engage - the warning light for that comes on but there's no error message in the computer. the window's roll up and down incorrectly - the gasket on the exhaust manifold has been replaced and the kicker of all problems is when the vehicle goes through a minor puddle of water or the automatic car wash the steering wheel locks completely until the water is gone - try driving that in the rain - jeep was finally able to duplicate that problem by putting a garden hose under the car and squirting water on the underside of the vehicle - this problem apparently cannot be fixed and they can't believe that no other jeep owner's aren't throwing fits. so much for the lemon law - the steering problem wasn't taken seriously by the previous jeep dealers -i went to a different dealer altogether however, it's too late. *tr

My 2006 jeep commander continually stalls, threatening the lives of whoever is in the car. there is no warning. suddenly there will be a complete loss of control over the vehicle. no warning lights, no bells, sounds, whistles...nothing! the only way to remedy is to turn vehicle off and restart. this turns in to a life threatening incident when the traffic behind you is unaware that you are in fact stalled. the dealership has no updates or complaints of this problem (ya, right) and drives it around the block...with no incidences occurring. if they think it's going to happen while they're driving the vehicle, they're wrong. i 'm risking my families lives every time we get in the car. it's the most expensive piece of junk i've ever owned! visibility out the rear window when the 3rd row seats are up is just about zero. this is extremely dangerous. you can't see cars, kids, or your neighbors house when you're trying to see what's behind you. driver's side locks on it's own. luckily the passenger doors remain unlocked, so i haven't locked myself out...yet. *jb

I purchased a 2006 jeep commander last year. i have had the following items replaced on my jeep front passenger interior door panel. strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. my passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. i had a problem where my car kept stalling. i was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. it died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. i also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as i drove or would flash on and off. they replaced the headlight switch. i have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. from the beginning i have told them i do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when i shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. i have been told no error is appearing on computer and that jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. the last time i had it in when it was stalling i told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. it is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. i am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. i blame jeep/chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. they need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us. *tr

I own a 2006 jeep commander 4x4 v8. i have had a ton of problems with it. it makes a terrible wind noise coming from the windshield, my ac sounds like a freight train when switch to or from ac, and the most dangerous is that my car dies while turning on a regular basis. i have taken the car in and the dealer tells me they can not find the problem. i am so annoyed with my death trap. i drive around my 3 kids, my husband, and myself. i fear for ours lives being in this car. it is unsafe and will end up killing someone one day. *tr

I have had my jeep commander since late 2005 and i have had to replace the one time, but it will need to be replace for the second time since it has two major cracks on the lower part of the windshield both going in separate directions from the lower center of the windshield, an i believe it was a good i have waited to replace my windshield because driving into work today, another crack formed after being hit by a rock. this crack is on the driving side of the windshield and it quickly spread about 6 inches from the initial crack. i am concerned about this flaw in the windshield design and/or craftsmanship on the windshield (weak). i have noticed on quite a few forums this a very common occurrence with many if not all owners, and this should be carefully reviewed since this is a safety hazard which will occur quite often if no proper solution is found! *tr

I have had my jeep commander for two and a half years and have had 4 cracks in my windshield each costing $40 to fix .i have also replaced my entire windshield because of a crack in my line of vision. i am a stay at home mom and do not spend hours on the freeway . i don't believe i am that unlucky to warrant all the stray projectiles during my limited highway driving or that each one would lead to a trip to auto glass repair shop. i will contact chrysler about this also. *tr

While driving down an empty road, absolutely no cars, there was a loud pop. after a few seconds we notice there is a small spot on the bottom of the driver's side windshield. we didn't see a pebble nor hear what would sound like a pebble hitting the windshield. if i look closely at the crack, it appears as is something is actually pushing on it from the inside. there is also a loud roaring noise from the windshield are while driving at higher speeds. *tr

I took my 2006 jeep commander to my local dealer where i originally purchased it to get the stalling problem fixed. five days later the service manager said that the problem was now solved (august 24,2007) finally. the service department said they put in a new program that would fix the jeep from just losing power. august 25 saturday morning at 8:13 while at an intersection the jeep just died again. another problem is the windshield breaking easily. i believe the problem with the breaking windshield could be related to the inproper fitting of the windshield which results in a loud noise being heard inside the vehicle. the dealership said they won't fix the seal problem because my jeep has two cracks on it. i said if you had fixed the windshield seal problem the first 3 times i brought it in we wouldn't have this problem'. no problems have yet to be solved. ancira dealership in san antonio,tx. many jeep owners are purchasing multiple windshields at $385 a pop. the dealer tried to say it's just me until i pointed out all the other complaints in writing with all different vin numbers and even showed her the rental car (jeep commander) which also had a cracked windshield. she's convinced too. *tr

Front windshield seems to be easily damaged. i initially thought it was just another pebble but when it happen again while i was driving down my neighborhood street i realized something was wrong. i think the problems i'm having with a whistling noise that's heard while driving which points to a seal problem are associated. when a windshield is not properly fitted it can lead to the glass being more sensitive to damage. my dealer would not fix the seal until i replaced the windshield until i pointed out they are associated. *tr

Within 500 miles of owning a new 2006 jeep commander, a small stone glanced off the windshield leaving a chip. almost immediately, the chip began to run. a few days later, some mud was flicked up by a lawnmower shattering the window in a number of places. funny thing is, the paint stood up to the thrown mud but the windshield shattered. *tr

I have had our 2006 jeep commander for just over six months. while traveling on a paved surface, a rock, about the size of a quarter, was thrown up into my windshield causing abullseye exactly in my line of sight. i believe that either the design and position of the windshild or the materials used must be the problem as i have heard of others having the same promlem. i do believe that this could be a safety problem.

Windshield appears to crack easily. when the windshield was being replaced it defective body sealant/bonding was discovered. the dealership and the manufacturer were contacted, and said they would log the complaint. but they were unwilling to do anything about it. the glue used to bond the vehicle pieces at the pinch welds was soft, and could be removed with one's fingertip. the windshield sealant, when peeled off, removed the glue from the body, indicating that the paint adhered better to the body, glue was not sufficiently bonded to the body. i have pictures to document this case.*ak

I just read an article in newspaper about the jeep commander's stalling problem. this has happened to me, but luckily, not at a high speed on the highway. the commander has only stalled once on me, actually, within the last week, while driving, but many times it seriously hesitates when i start to accelerate. questions to dealer said maybe it was poor gas, or a vapor lock (about the stalling)? i never had it documented with them about the stall, now after reading this article, i am concerned. the stall happened within the last week, so it has not been back to dealer. it started right up after i coasted to side of road, and placed in park. have there been any complaints on the windshield angle, i have gone through three from rocks!!! glass very straight up! i do like the truck though. purchase date approximate. i do like dealer, and have not addressed this problem to them (stall), because it only happened once, and i was unaware of current problem being looked into. i just wanted you to report mine in with your statistics. *tr

We purchased a 2006 jeep commander in july of 2006. since we have owned it, we have had 2 rock chips, that we have had patched. since then, we have 4 different cracks that have all started below the windshield wipers, and all 4 cracks started within 24 hours of each other. first, it seems that jeep commanders are much more susceptible to rock chips than any other car that we have ever owned. second, the latest 4 cracks do not seem to even have started from rock chips, but since they have all started from the bottom of the windshield, below the windshield wipers (when the wipers were not being used at all), this seems to us to be some kind of design flaw with the commander's windshield. perhaps the windshields are just too big, too straight, with little to no slope at all, or just not made sturdy enough. it just seems that there is a design or quality problem with the windshield, and we are concerned about the jeep dealership that we went to not being willing to repair this problem under warranty. we don't drive our cars on gravel roads at all, we have not driven them through any construction zone areas. we drive them on normal, generally good condition roads, and it doesn't seem reasonable that in 9 months time, we have had 2 rock chips, and now 4 different cracks. we don't feel that we should be responsible to pay $500 to have a windshield repaired, that we are concerned with once it is repaired that the same problem will continue to happen, again and again. we have talked to a few other commander owners, and they have all experienced the same problem we are having. one couple that we know that owns a commander is on their 3rd windshield. there seems to be an issue with not just us, but other commander owners also. we are wondering what jeep plans to do to rectify this problem? is a recall being considered? is a better, stronger, windshield even a possibility, or is the windshield is just too large, and too straight up and down to not constantly have this problem. *jb

When at or below freezing the windshield wipers will not make contact w/the windshield in certain areas. medved chrysler /jeep replaced the windshield wiper blades, which already was replaced with 3 different types prior to them, it did not change.*ak they then replaced the r/f wiper arm, with no change. i asked if the windshield could be the problem, chrysler would not replace the windshield. elite replaced the windshield @ no charge to medved or me. it became even worse!!!! i have seen other commanders driving towards me w/the same problems in the same area of the windshield. the zone rep for chrysler even stated mine does the same thing. the obstruction of view directly in front of the driver and passenger is dangerous!! chrysler can't see any physical defect so it is not a problem. the service manager for the castle rock branch of medved was able to see it all happen firsthand. he called chyrsler, and they blew him off as w/the the first time he called them w/ my complaint. i have called chrysler's 1-800 number and they were less than helpfull, said it is up to the dealer you took it to to make a decision. they have done all they can; this is a engeniring or windshield manufacturer defect that is dangerous! this vehicle cannot be driven @ or below freezing w/out the windshield wipers loosing total contact in a circle pattern directly in the drivers and passengers direct line of vision in front of the vehicle, only changed by pulling over and blasting the windshield w/full heat and full defrost with the wipers on medium/high until the circles are gone. once driven again the circles start small and become larger the more you drive it even w/full heat and defrost!! the defroster air flow seems good in the center of the windshiedl but lower as it goes out to either side.
