I have owned my 2007 jeep commander for about ten months now. the problem i have is when my knee bumps the bottom of the ignition key (turning it to the left, & shutting the vehicle off) which is unusually located at the bottom portion of the console (i guess this vehicle wasn't meant for tall people). when this happens the vehicle immediately shuts off, causing the power steering to shut off as well. this has happened four times now. the last time it happened was thursday, june 12, 2008 around 11:15 am. i was driving my 1 year old son to the babysitters house. my knee bumped the key as i was approaching a turn, shutting off the vehicle/power steering, so i kept going straight, and nearly crashed. luckily, i slammed the brakes and stopped just in time. after this incident i realized how serious the problem really is. although i have to drive it at the moment (backwards, so i can't afford to trade it in), i have become leery and uncomfortable with my commander because of what could happen to my child, me, or someone else if (or rather when) this happens again. i am now constantly trying to stay aware of where my right knee is at all times. instead of reporting this to my dealership (i know they can't do anything about design flaws). i have decided to go straight to the nhtsa. please help! *tr

Recently had to have sunroof drains cleaned for second time in the last 14 months at a cost of $500 each time. heberts town and country in shreveport, la tells me that drains are clogged and this is causing water to leak into the cabin of the vehicle. they also mentioned that they can't warranty any of the work b/c an actual part hasn't broken. very convienent for them. we parked the vehicle in a garage in the evenings and made sure we didn't park under any trees at other times that may clog drains, but they got clogged. i'm not sure how clean you have to keep vehicle to keep drains from clogging, but i effectively have a jeep that can't get wet or dirty. completely contrary to any advertising done by jeep claiming how rugged their vehicles are.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that every time it rained the front of the vehicle became flooded. the contact took the vehicle to a glass facility to have the sun roof diagnosed and was told there were no clogs in the drain pipes that could cause the failure. the dealer had not inspected the vehicle, but the contact was concerned that the failure was caused by the seals on the doors. the contact stated the failure also caused the dome light on the interior of the door to come on after it rained and was worried about a possible electrical manufacturers defect. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 45,000. rvk

I bought a new 2007 jeep commander, and during the first rain that we got the front passenger cabin area was flooded. i took it to the dealer ship and they were unable to correct the problem. the service advisor stated that they have had several complaints with other jeep commanders with the same problem, and that they have contacted the manufacture to obtain advice from them with negative results. as of the last rains that we received in february of 2008 i still have the same problem with water entering some were through the roof of the vehicle and leaking down into the front passenger compartment area. my current mileage 4,000. *tr

We purchased a 2007 jeep commander limited in september, 2007. after the first rains in october, 2007 the jeep cabin was flooded with rain water entering the cabin via the front driver and passenger front pillars. the dealer claimed they could not reproduce the leaking and sent us away. the cabin flooded again following the next rain storm. this time dealer replaced moon roof gutter/drain on passenger side. next rain storm flooding again and dealer replaced moon roof gutter/drain on the driver side. upon return from the dealer electronic components began malfunctioning such as interior dome lights, automatic headlamps, intermittent wiper functions, etc. i suspect the deluge of water from the cabin flooding is now affecting the electronics in the dash, headliner, center console and doors. we have petitioned daimlerchrysler corporation under the california lemon laws, but we no have no response as of yet. *tr
