Was driving to work and was accelerating to about 55mph, when my 2006 jeep commander stopped accelerating and had apparently jumped into neutral. the check engine light also came on at that time. i had to pull over put the vehicle in park and then back into drive, and then it was fine. this exact same thing has occurred about 3-4 times. always with the check engine light going off soon after.

I explained the previous evening i noticed steering did not seem right and i had to push on gas more to get the car to have power. i mentioned this to my husband in case it was time to check spark plugs and get a tune up. the next morning i went through a car wash and started a 30 mile commute. while driving 65-70 mph on a highway the vehicle lights and all power shut down without warning. the only thing working was the radio. no brakes, steering was different. thankfully this time was able to pull to a shoulder and coast to an offramp. i coasted to a stop, put in park then tried to start. the vehicle started again and i drove straight to the dealership 4 miles away. i explained to the dealer and also called the maker of the vehicles recall dept. they opened a case. at this point no one has any idea what happened and the issue is intermittent. they cannot replicate and i have not had my car for 6 days. i have researched that i am not the only one this has happened to and most people become a middle man between the dealer, the warranty company, and no resolution is ever made. many became frustrated and sold and cut their losses. they continued to drive the vehicle and it continued to happen. i am not clear on the statistics but i read one blog that stated this incident has caused 2 accidents. i have survived cancer and i have 3 chilldren. i cannot consiously drive the vehicle again. i am thankful this did not happen driving uphill on a dark mountainside. we had planned a trip to la that had to be cancelled due to lack of safety. i am starting an uphill battle or i will be forced to sale. if so many people have had this issue since 2006 why hasn't there been a resolution. people get the computer fixed only for it to happen again which tells me the computer itself is faulty. i am not sure what to do and i am desperate to resolve the situation. it will put us in danger.

There are reports all over the internet about this same issue with jeep commanders. this needs to be reviewed for recall and is a safety issue. the check park assist warning started to flash intermittently while the vehicle was in operation. when this occurred, all gear indicators on the dash would light up at the same time. there was initially no other indication that anything was wrong with the car. eventually, the check engine light came on and the dealer diagnosed it as needing a new transmission control module. the same events occurred within 2 weeks of installing the new module. dealer replaced it again and said the part was faulty. the same events occurred again with the next month. dealer was unable to find a problem and reset the computer/wiped the error. it occurred again and progressed to the car loosing accelerating power while driving and/or shifting in to lower gears for no reason. new dealer this time, says that it is the shifting control module. review of the issue on-line shows a long history of this problem even though i am fortunate enough not to have it happen within a few years of ownership. this is a safety issue that can cause injury to passengers when the car shifts down at highway speed and/or accidents because the driver no longer has control of acceleration.

While driving my car it simply cut off - went dead. i had to pull off the road with no power steering. this is the second time this has happened with this vehicle. once off the road - i am able to put the car in park and restart. this happens for no reason. i have had the car in the shop several times with no explanation what is happening.

The same day i purchased my used 2006 jeep commander, i was attempting to open the rear passenger door from the inside when the trim around the handle cracked and a piece of plastic flew off. the handle now dangles, useless and loose. i was told by the dealer that they had also just replaced the driver's door panel prior to our purchase, having encountered the very same problem with that door. unfortunately, it appears that these repairs require replacement of the entire interior door panel whenever the handle breaks...i'm being told it is a $700 repair.

All four interior door handles and plastic around the door handles are beginning to crack and break. the plastic indent underneath the interior door handles has become extremely brittle and will crack if you barely touch it. the driver side door handle has broken from the inside of the door panel and all the plastic surrounding the interior door handle has begun breaking and falling inside the door panel. i have thoroughly researched this issue and have found that this is a very common complaint and was surprised that there has not been a recall notice associated with this. interior door handles are extremely fragile and can easily break off which would prevent someone from escaping the vehicle in an emergency. i took my car to the dealership and was told that to repair the door handle, the entire door panel needs to be replaced (at approximately $600 including parts and labor). this does not guarantee that the issue will not happen again as they have not made any changes to the door panels to prevent it from doing so. $2400 to repair the inside door handles of my vehicle with no assurance that it won't happen again seems to be immoral and illegal.

My 2006 jeep comannder is experiencing problems listed by many owners, delayed tranmission engagement, warning lights flashing on & off, won't start. it has stalled once. i have checked my vin # for recalls and it's not on any list. i am afraid to drive my vehicle and have no other tranportation. the dealer i contacted has not heard about the flashing light problem and has not got back to me after giving him my vin #. i am also experiencing problems, although not life threatening, they should not be happening to a $40,000 vehicle; whistling windows, the side of my drivers seat broke off and it contains the electrical cords for my seat, the windows don't opreate properly. i did not think any of these things to be of consequense until i started researching my interior light problem.

2006 jeep commander - vehichle stalling before acceleration, power-steering became difficult: between 24,000 - 30,000 miles, the vehicle began to stall and the motor has completely shut down immediately following the incident. no actions were taken at the dealership. we were told if it does not happen while at the dealer, there is nothing that can be done. the vehicle just reached 30,000 miles and the power steering is becoming increasingly more difficult. a scrubbing and loud noise can be heard while turning the wheel to the right. the vehicle is scheduled to be looked at by the same dealership.

Interior door panels break at the door handle location leaving the door handle inoperable and the passenger unable to open the vehicle door. this is a problem on all four passenger doors.

We own a 2006 jeep commander that has been a problem from the first month we owned it. the first incident occurred when my wife and 3 children were driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off at 65 mph. the vehicle has consistently experienced the same challenge at low and high speeds. in addition, we have experienced similar issues as other owners such as; transmission noises and slippage, electrical system failures, excessive break noise, break wear, excessive cracking in windshield, seatbelt failure, window leaks, stereo replacement and more! in the last 9 months this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair more than 6 times for similar issues. the dealer, as with other customers has claimed they can't replicate the problem... and sent us on our way. i have now embarked upon having the vehicle bought back by the manufacturer and will also begin a formal legal case to ensure other owners receive retribution. this car is dangerous and the manufacturer is aware of these problems, you are not crazy and the dealers are covering it up! *tr
