| On may 5, 2008, chrysler llc (chrysler) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning an engine calibration issue that could result in engine stall in approximately 24,461 model year (my) 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with the 4.7l v-8 engine and built from february 25, 2005 through january 11, 2006.according to chrysler, the powertrain control module (pcm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall during certain operating conditions.chrysler dealers will reprogram the pcm software in the recalled vehicles. information provided by chrysler during pe07-009 and ea07-007 indicated that a revised engine calibration was implemented in production effective january 12, 2006 for the my 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 4.7l v-8 engines.odi's analysis ofconsumer complaints, field reports and other data related to field experience with engine stalling in my 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 3.7l, 4.7l and 5.7l engines identified an elevated rate of stalling incidents in the my 2006 vehicles equipped with 4.7l engines that were manufactured before the calibration change.odi interviewed over 70 consumers who reported stalling incidents in early production my 2006 4.7l vehicles.information gathered from those interviews indicated that the stalling incidents were occurring at various speeds, often occurred during turns and typically occurred more than once.the interviews did not identify any concerns with restartability. although the early my 2006 production vehicles with 4.7l engines make up only about 15 percent of all my 2006 through 2007 jeep commanders built by chrysler, they were responsible for 465 of the 854 reported stalling incidents (54%), 6 of the 12 crash incidents (50%) and the only injury claim.the stalling rate for the recalled vehicles is 1.90 percent, almost 7 times greater than the rate in the remaining population (0.28 percent).chrysler's recall covers the vehicles with the elevated stalling rate.the remaining vehicles have relatively low rates of stalling and do not exhibit any signs of aggravating factors such as problems with restart. odi also analyzed complaints alleging concerns with loss of lighting coincident to stalling incidents.this analysis identified seven stalling incidents where loss of exterior lighting was alleged.no specific cause was identified in these incidents and there was no discernible pattern regarding engine, vehicle production options, build range or failure trend. this investigation is closed with chrysler's recall. | ||||||

| Odi has received 76 vehicle owner complaints alleging incidents of engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles (subject vehicles).some of the complaints reported one or more incidents of engine stall with a simultaneous loss of some or all lighting systems, including headlamps.two engine stalls resulted in a vehicle crash.in its response to a request for information, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) indicated that it has not determined the cause of engine stalling in the subject vehicles and that it hasformed a multi-disciplinary task force to investigate the issue. this investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea07-007) to further assess the frequency, scope and potential safety consequences of the alleged defect. | ||||||

| The vehicle has stalled on me at least 30 times. it occurs while idling at a stop and also at slower speeds. after rainy days sometimes the vehicle won't start. the problem is intermittent so the dealer can't fix it. it sets off no engine codes. i have had many issues with the vehicle however this one is very unsafe. | |||

| I was driving home from picking up my daughter from a school event when suddenly my car slowed down on its own down to 10 mph. then the car completely stopped. on the control console it only read service park assist and the drive position controls where all highlighted and boxed out (drnp). i lost all control of the vehicle other than turning the wheel. i tried to accelerate by pressing the gas and it just revved the engine and did nothing else. i swerved off the road and hit a median that took out the tire and left damage to the left of the car under carriage. i had to shift the gear into park and back to drive in order for the car to start up again. i took the car to a local jeep chrysler dodge service depot and had it ran for a diagnostic for at which time they told me that it was a common issue found in this model and earlier models and that it wasn't covered by the power train that the vehicle would need $1100.00 in repairs to fix an electronic transformer shift modulator. i had just purchased the car on october 31 from a jeep chrysler dodge dealership and less than three weeks later the car is for crap. and the dealership refused to fix the problem and jeep has not issued a recall for this issue but they have for the 2006 model. this problem is life threatening. it can occur at anytime at any speed. if i were on a expressway my children and i would probably be dead. jeep needs to be pursed for this issue and forced to fix the damage on any vehicles reporting this issue. *tr | |||

| 3rd row seat belts break and are unusable whenever the 3rd row seats are folded down. the plastic piece is pushed over the metal latching piece of the seat belt. they have been fixed and are now broken again, now the 3rd row seat cannot be used for passengers. water from rain is coming through the doors, puddling at the base of the door. the jeep was in park, when i attempted to put the car in reverse it would not go, all of the prd were lit up with blocks around them. i turned off the jeep and i was able to put the car in reverse. *tr | |||

| Vehicle is loosing power, park assist light comes on dash along with every other light!! along dash it says something about park assist service?? not sure exact words because it pops across and pops off just as quickly.car won't start right up takes 1-2 hours before anything will happen. yesterday was the first time this has happen. i had my two year old son with me.. had to sit in 90 degree weather for over an hour waiting for help. i just bought this vehicle three months ago because everyone raved about how great/dependable jeeps are.. built to last?!? maybe i should have just stuck with ford... i physically feel sick to my stomach, had i seen that this is an ongoing problem i would have stayed as far away from this type of vehicle as possible!! i would hope that chrysler would step up and address the problem, seeing that all of these people(myself included) bought there product with the faith that it would if not meet/exceed there expectations. *tr | |||

| 2007 jeep commander limited. vehicle began stalling with no warning at low speeds. jeep dealer has been unable to properly diagnose problem. computer jeep engineers have worked with the dealer and they also have been unable to properly diagnose problem. i have spent roughly $5000.00 replacing modules, etc that they think may be causing the problem. the only thing this has done is aggravate the problem. the last incident occurred while passing a double tanker truck on a two lane road, engine stalled at the time i was right next to the truck. only thing i could do was since i was going downhill, my momentum took me past the truck, i cut in front of him and made it over to the shoulder and stopped. vehicle would not start until i put it into park, pulled the key and restarted it. vehicle has been in the dealer's shop more than out of it for the last 15 months-they're stymied and frustrated with jeep engineers. comment made by jeep's customer service representative: on my, that's dangerous. it's very frustrating that jeep will not admit there is a problem with this model and fix it, especially since they have recalled other models/years with the same problem. also frustrating that they won't go online and listen to the people who are driving these problem vehicles. their comment is- you can't put any stock in what you read online. it's for sure that i will never purchase another jeep nor would i ever recommend them to anyone-except maybe someone i didn't like. *tr | |||

| Purchased the 2007 jeep commander 4x4 2 weeks ago. when i started the jeep the service park assist flashed and went away, i headed down my driveway onto the highway and could not accelerate more than 20 miles per hour, the jeep would not shift geers. i pulled to the side of the road for safety because of traffic, turned the jeep off, started it again and merged back onto the highway and the jeep again could not go more than 20 mph, put on hazards and brought to mechanic. left the jeep running, got back into to reverse and the it would not reverse, atthis time the prnd was lit up on the dash board. still waiting to here what the problem ism mechanic can not duplicate. very serious safety problem as i use to transport my children. | |||

| While driving, the engine will suddenly die without warning. all power steering/brakes are lost. it will restart immediately. this is an ongoing, but random problem. the only code that is recorded refers to the ignition relay module. to date the egr, ignition relay module, and crankshaft position sensor have been replaced. the problem persists. this problem represents a severe safety issue, as a loss of power while pulling into traffic could have catastrophic consequences. | |||

| Beginning in october 2009 when the vehicle had less than 36k on it the engine stalled once. i thought maybe gas or something....then two more times in october while stopped. gets worse by the week until it is actually stalling when driving at 60mph.....have had it in for service on several occassions and they have replaced several components and still will stall. this is 2012 and since it all began i have filed 2 cases with chrysler, on the first go round, they thought they fixed it and again a few weeks later it began to stall. my daughter, 6 years of age, in the car and i am taking her to school and the engine stalls and we almost were hit by a vehicle traveling in excess of 55 mph, if that vehicle did not get out of the way it would have directly hit where my daughter was sitting. she began to cry and she will no longer ride in the commander. we are all afraid to drive it. it has stalled on us i know over 100 times in the past 4 years. i have begged chrysler to replace the vehicle. i loved my commander i have had several jeeps and this is so upsetting. chrysler seems to deny they have any clue of these problems with 2007 commanders and i see several postings on this website alone of the same issue. it is dangerous to drive this vehicle. someone is going to be seriously injured. please make them step up to the plate and own up to this before it is too late for someone. i will never believe it is actually fixed and they make us drive it until it so bad that they can make it stall. in the mean time, we are in danger daily. please help us and advise us how to get out of this vehicle and into a safe one for my family. | |||

| It was a rainy day. i pulled my car in to the garage and shut off the engine. pulled out the key and entered my house. the garage is connected to my home. i came back to the garage some time later to find the engine was still on. i ran to the drivers seat to see no key in the ignition and verified the remote engine feature wasn't engaged, it is designed to turnoff after the car door is open for a short time. the engine wouldn't shut off. i brought it to my husband, who drove it a bit and could not get the engine off. eventually it self corrected. a truly dangerous issue since this car is parked in my home. we brought it to the dealer about 4 times, and while the engine hasn't done that again, various parts of the car turn on spontaneously. a single head light, a single brake light, all the lights. it seems the electrical system no longer has full control of the vehicle and that is dangerous. i believe my car is just one of many 2007 jeeps that are having enormous electrical problems, my case just illustrates how dangerous this could be. a car engine running spontaneously is unacceptable and it is clear this is just a symptom of a common problem to all these jeeps. | |||

| Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while waiting on a stop light the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the spark plugs were defective and needed to be replaced. the remedy failed to repaired the problem. the second time it occurred the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle position sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. once again the remedy failed to repaired the problem. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time, but they were not able to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 61, 000. pm | |||

| The above information was for the first time this incident occurred. while driving at any speed the car will stall out of no where due to the electronic shift module. i had it replaced 11/08 which was only a year after the car was made. it is completely acting up again and the module needs replaced again. i understand that they have not recalled this issue but there are over 145 complaints of the same issue but yet on your website it says a recall is necessary when there is a safety-related defect in the vehicle or equipment. a safety defect is defined as a problem that exists in a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that: poses a risk to motor vehicle safety. examples of defects considered safety-related:steering components that break suddenly causing partial or complete loss of vehicle control. accelerator controls that may break or stick. critical vehicle components that break, fall apart, or separate from the vehicle, causing potential loss of vehicle control or injury to persons inside or outside the vehicle. along with the above i have children and if they are inside this vehicle while something happens just wait until i slap the lawsuit along with the many others as a result of this issue that nobody is doing nothing about. i almost was rear ended on the expressway by vehicles going 75 mph because of the car stalling/not wanting to accelerate! i want answers and i want them now! | |||

| While driving my 2007 jeep commander all four gears would show them being highlighted (p-n-r-d) and when this would happen it would lose power and slow down to a point where there was a concern about being rear ended if it could not be pulled over. i took it to a dealer and they had to replace the electronic shift module. in looking on the internet this is not a isolated incident but is occuring nation-wide. the service manager even said that they get about one of these a month. this is just one dealer and appears to be nation-wide from what i saw on the internet. both the dealer and chrysler have said that they would not do anything about except repair this problem at the consumers expense. this is defintely a problem that chrysler is ignoring but someday they may be facing a law suit if their is a bad accident. | |||

| 2007 jeep commander 85k miles problem started with service park assist light coming on. car then would not accelerate for 10-15 seconds. approximately two weeks later (yesterday) same problem occurred. this time i was on the on ramp to the highway where they are doing construction. there is no breakdown lane, so when you get on the highway you are in first lane. as soon as i got into the first lane, the service park assist light came on, the p r n d lights were all illuminated, the car would not accelerate again for approximately 20 seconds and the check engine light came on. this is an extremely dangerous situation as again, there is no breakdown lane to pull over. i called the dealership, they cannot take the car for a couple days. after reading the complaints from other 2007 jeep owners with the exact same problem, i printed these and brought them to the dealership. they indicated they have never heard of the problem and that i can pay for the diagnostic test and take it from there. i was also given the telephone number for chrysler. i had my son in the car, i am now afraid to drive the car and will have to find an alternate route to work as this exit will be this way for some time and had a car been closer behind me, we would have been hit. | |||

| My 2007 cammander, recently keeps alarming me service park assist while lighting up all the drive boxes, while im driving. when it does this i cannot give the car gas so i have to pull over, shut the car off and turn it back on. its been doing this on and off for the past couple of months. usually the check engine light comes on, i will take it to the repair shop and when they hook it up to the tester, it doesnt tell them anything is wrong and they manually shut the check engine light off. the latest incident i was driving on the turnpike and it did this, i was terrified because my two kids were with me and i had to cut over three lanes, pull off and shut the car down and restart it. today all the drive options were boxed in while i was driving but the engine light never even came on, it just wouldnt let me gas and i had to do the same thing pull over, shut off and restrart. my tires are also showing up for low pressure, and the tire dealer told me the tires on this model are known for small holes around the outside ring of the tread, which of course cannot be filled. | |||

| I bought my new 2007 commander in spring of 2008. less than 6 months later i've been having issues with my electrical system. random lights come on and go off at different times. most recently i was in chicago on a major freeway and my car stalled when i slowed down for traffic. after two tries it restarted but my dashboard, lights, navigation system were not working. i drove to a parking lot and turned my car off. after letting it sit for about 20 minutes, i restarted it and only the engine light came on this time. my dealership installed a new ignition switch a couple of months ago when the lights were coming on but this did nothing to help. they can't get my car to duplicate what it has done for me so they give my car back to me without repair. this car is not safe and i'm scared to death to drive it. having it stall in chicago (not familiar with that city- i was only visiting and needed my navigation system to get to where i was going) was very scary for me as i'm a female and 35. i consider myself lucky this time. but please- someone fix my car or take it back from me! this is not a safe vehicle . *tr | |||

| This complaint is in connection with a 2007 jeep commander 4x4. the vehicle stalled twice while on a highway service road. it is my belief that the placement and design of the ignition may be to blame for this and other stalls (which are now under nhtsa investigation). it appears that if you hit your knee on the key while it is in the ignition you can easily turn the truck off while it is in operation. please review the placement of the ignition and its design as it appears to offer little resistance to glances from the driver's knee. it seems to easily turn the truck off. | On several occasion while driving, the engine has completely cut out. i have concluded, luckily without accident or injury, that the cause was my inadvertently hitting the ignition key, located in this vehicle perilously close to the driver's right knee, and effectively turning the ignition switch to the off position. it took a slight touch for this to occur, especially with other keys or such dangling down from the ignition key. for a less experienced driver, such as my daughter this sudden and immediate loss of power on the open road could , d at some point,will-- cause panic and perhaps much worse. this needed addressed. i have read on internet sites/blocs about others experiencing the same thing. *ak | |||
