On may 5, 2008, chrysler llc (chrysler) submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning an engine calibration issue that could result in engine stall in approximately 24,461 model year (my) 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with the 4.7l v-8 engine and built from february 25, 2005 through january 11, 2006.according to chrysler, the powertrain control module (pcm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall during certain operating conditions.chrysler dealers will reprogram the pcm software in the recalled vehicles. information provided by chrysler during pe07-009 and ea07-007 indicated that a revised engine calibration was implemented in production effective january 12, 2006 for the my 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 4.7l v-8 engines.odi's analysis ofconsumer complaints, field reports and other data related to field experience with engine stalling in my 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 3.7l, 4.7l and 5.7l engines identified an elevated rate of stalling incidents in the my 2006 vehicles equipped with 4.7l engines that were manufactured before the calibration change.odi interviewed over 70 consumers who reported stalling incidents in early production my 2006 4.7l vehicles.information gathered from those interviews indicated that the stalling incidents were occurring at various speeds, often occurred during turns and typically occurred more than once.the interviews did not identify any concerns with restartability. although the early my 2006 production vehicles with 4.7l engines make up only about 15 percent of all my 2006 through 2007 jeep commanders built by chrysler, they were responsible for 465 of the 854 reported stalling incidents (54%), 6 of the 12 crash incidents (50%) and the only injury claim.the stalling rate for the recalled vehicles is 1.90 percent, almost 7 times greater than the rate in the remaining population (0.28 percent).chrysler's recall covers the vehicles with the elevated stalling rate.the remaining vehicles have relatively low rates of stalling and do not exhibit any signs of aggravating factors such as problems with restart. odi also analyzed complaints alleging concerns with loss of lighting coincident to stalling incidents.this analysis identified seven stalling incidents where loss of exterior lighting was alleged.no specific cause was identified in these incidents and there was no discernible pattern regarding engine, vehicle production options, build range or failure trend. this investigation is closed with chrysler's recall.

While driving, the engine will suddenly die without warning. all power steering/brakes are lost. it will restart immediately. this is an ongoing, but random problem. the only code that is recorded refers to the ignition relay module. to date the egr, ignition relay module, and crankshaft position sensor have been replaced. the problem persists. this problem represents a severe safety issue, as a loss of power while pulling into traffic could have catastrophic consequences.

Beginning in october 2009 when the vehicle had less than 36k on it the engine stalled once. i thought maybe gas or something....then two more times in october while stopped. gets worse by the week until it is actually stalling when driving at 60mph.....have had it in for service on several occassions and they have replaced several components and still will stall. this is 2012 and since it all began i have filed 2 cases with chrysler, on the first go round, they thought they fixed it and again a few weeks later it began to stall. my daughter, 6 years of age, in the car and i am taking her to school and the engine stalls and we almost were hit by a vehicle traveling in excess of 55 mph, if that vehicle did not get out of the way it would have directly hit where my daughter was sitting. she began to cry and she will no longer ride in the commander. we are all afraid to drive it. it has stalled on us i know over 100 times in the past 4 years. i have begged chrysler to replace the vehicle. i loved my commander i have had several jeeps and this is so upsetting. chrysler seems to deny they have any clue of these problems with 2007 commanders and i see several postings on this website alone of the same issue. it is dangerous to drive this vehicle. someone is going to be seriously injured. please make them step up to the plate and own up to this before it is too late for someone. i will never believe it is actually fixed and they make us drive it until it so bad that they can make it stall. in the mean time, we are in danger daily. please help us and advise us how to get out of this vehicle and into a safe one for my family.

While traveling at 40mph my 2007 jeep commander lost power accelerator would no respond the service park assist message came on as did the check engine light and all the gear indicators in the dash lit up. i stopped on the side of the road and after i turned the vehicle off and restarted it was fine for a few more miles and it did it again and again. took the vehicle to my jeep dealer and they checked it out and found it was the transmission control module and i just had to pay $1,329.59 to have it repaired. this is a safety issue and i was lucky i was driving on side streets as in traffic or on the highway it could have caused a serious accident. the same issue happened on the 2006 commander and jeep recalled them and there are the same number of complaints about the 2007 why is it that nothing is being done to have them correct this.

The 2007 jeep commander's engine and power shut off at highway speed (approx 65 mph) on i-95. the power steering and power brakes were not operational. my wife had to cross four lanes of traffic to stop the vehicle on the side of the road to attempt to restart the vehicle. the key was not bumped or touched when the vehicle shut off. the vehicle did restart after coming to a stop.

It was a rainy day. i pulled my car in to the garage and shut off the engine. pulled out the key and entered my house. the garage is connected to my home. i came back to the garage some time later to find the engine was still on. i ran to the drivers seat to see no key in the ignition and verified the remote engine feature wasn't engaged, it is designed to turnoff after the car door is open for a short time. the engine wouldn't shut off. i brought it to my husband, who drove it a bit and could not get the engine off. eventually it self corrected. a truly dangerous issue since this car is parked in my home. we brought it to the dealer about 4 times, and while the engine hasn't done that again, various parts of the car turn on spontaneously. a single head light, a single brake light, all the lights. it seems the electrical system no longer has full control of the vehicle and that is dangerous. i believe my car is just one of many 2007 jeeps that are having enormous electrical problems, my case just illustrates how dangerous this could be. a car engine running spontaneously is unacceptable and it is clear this is just a symptom of a common problem to all these jeeps.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while waiting on a stop light the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the spark plugs were defective and needed to be replaced. the remedy failed to repaired the problem. the second time it occurred the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle position sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. once again the remedy failed to repaired the problem. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time, but they were not able to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 61, 000. pm

My 2007 jeep commander has stalled and lost various vehical functions. this has happened a few times with no prior warnings from the instrument panel. i have the extended warranty and had it towed to the dealership for repair. my commander has only 33k miles on it. the dealer said the problem was some sort of electronics board, they replaced it. however, the jeep has stalled again and now the check engine ligh is on again! this seems to be an ongoing issue with the commanders. i ask nhtsa to please seriously consider a recall to correct these issues. the commanders are now creeping up in age and are now out of factory warrenty. please help to correct these issues before there are more injuries or death. lets keep in mind that the majority of people who purchased commanders are using them as a family vehical! thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Our 2007 jeep commander 4x4 4.3l has a recurring stalling problem. they vehicle will randomly not start, already replaced a starter, with only 54,000 on the jeep. while driving in all traffic conditions, the vehicle will hestitate and occsssionally just turn off.

I have a 2007 jeep commander. not the limited edition. in the 4 months that i have owned it, it has stalled while driving 3 times resulting in a new esm, suddenly lunged forward, on its own, while stopped in traffic, and now stranded our family twice with not starting. the first two problems are a safety issue and should be looked into and recalled immediately. stalling while driving is beyond dangerous! with the suddenly accelerating on its own while i was stopped in traffic, had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, someone could have been hurt. my autistic son was in the car with me on that occasion and on the stalling occasions, all 4 of my kids were in the vehicle. i have lost all confidence in mopar products and jeep needs to recall these hunks of junk before someone, or an entire family, gets hurt or killed. please make jeep fix these problems immediately to avoid disaster like toyota has faced.

Jeep commander engine stalls while driving. engine shuts down, steering and brakes loose power, battery stays on
01/30/2010560001
When my 2007 jeep commander is in drive the vehicle will stall and sputter or completely shut down. vehicle speed varies between 5 and 60 miles per hour when the problem occurs. the problem started in october 2009 vehicle speed at that time was 5mph. since then the speed when the failure occurs has increased and the last time (january 2010) i was driving at 55 mph the vehicle engine suddenly shut off, no power was visible on any control i.e. dashboard lights, radio, etc and i lost steering power. luckily i was able coast off into the emergency lane stop the vehicle move it to park and restart. the problem occurs randomly and with no apparent warning. when it cuts off i lose power steering and have had several near accidents with cars traveling behind me. when the vehicle stalls and sputters but does not lose all power it may then surge forward when the power reconnects. i have taken the vehicle in for service at my local chrysler dealership but they can not find any problem. *tr

My 2007 jeep commander has stalled numerous times in 55 mph traffic that i travel in daily to work. the date below is most recent. it is as if all of a sudden it is not getting fuel ad will not respond to the throttle. i have had it into the local dealership several times and of course they cannot repeat the incident. i have seen many other postings from commander owners on internet bulletin boards with the same issues. this is a very dangerous situation for a vehicle to repeatedly stall like that in traffic. please do something before someone is seriously injured. *tr

Erie, pa 11/3/08 search under rumsey, joann the newspapers describe it all and pictures speak a thousand words. this 2007 jeep commander crashed by stalling at a high speed claiming the lives of a young woman 40 years old and her 2 children who were 4 yrs old and 18 months old. please search and review this incident before selecting to put your family in a brand new jeep vehicle. a 5 star crash rating will not do much good if the vehicle stalls at a high speed and the driver is unable to control such vehicle. please, if you have a family review this before purchasing a jeep product. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander 4x4. the vehicle was purchased in december 2007. while driving, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 30 mph. after shutting the vehicle off it reset itself and began to drive normally. on one occasion, while traveling at speeds of less than 65 mph the vehicle stalled and the contact was only able to stop the vehicle by using the emergency brake. it was also difficult to use the steering wheel; however, it reset itself after restarting the vehicle. the vin was provided but not recognized when it was entered. the failure and current mileages were less than 37,000.

I own a 2007 jeep commander which i purchased used in may of 2007. my jeep stalled on me as i was sitting in traffic with no warning. i brought it to the dealership for service and they could not duplicate the problem and told me that they could not do anything until it gets worse. they also told me that they scanned the vehicle and no error codes came up. after researching this on the internet, i found out that this seems to be a recurring problem with 2006 and 2007 commanders. going forward i am going to be nervous driving my vehicle for fear that this is going to happen again and it may cause an accident. i do not want to spend hundreds of dollars trying to find out the problem only to have them keep telling me that they don't know what it is. please help. *tr
12/17/20077600704/09/2007
The total occurrences include seven incidents of engine stalling to date, the most recent incident on or around december 26th, 2007. five incidents occurred while my leased 2007 jeep commander was idling in park. two of the engine stalls occurred while actually driving my vehicle, the december 17th, 2007 incident while driving upwards of 50mph. i was forced to put my emergency brakes on, change to neutral, and restart the engine while my car was moving at a high speed on just its momentum. there was a risk of a near accident with both the car to my side and behind me. i attempted to correct this instability by taking the car to the service department of the dealership i leased it from. i was given two unreasonable options by the service department after having left my vehicle there until the close of business that day: either leave my vehicle at the service department, without being given a loaner, until another incident occurs while the car was hooked up to a diagnostic machine and only until then would they even recognize that there was problem (not an option because that could potentially take weeks and i can't do without a car for that time) or take my car back and risk having it happen again with more serious consequences. so, in short, since i was sent off without recognition by the service department that a problem existed i was left without any possible corrective measures i could think of. *tr

2007 jeep commander, 51,000 miles, stalls while driving without any warning. i was able to guide vehicle to side of the road and re-start the engine. this stalling problem has occurred on two occasions now, once with my kids on board, a scary situation to say the least. the engine light came on a week after the last incident and dealer believes the problem is a faulty electronic shift module, which they said is a known problem. when pressed about stalling of 2007 commanders, dealer said they were not aware of any problems or recall, yet replacement of the electronic shift module is a known problem? based upon the submissions to nhtsa regarding this problem, nhtsa needs to take action now. the history of reports regarding 2007 commanders needs to be addressed, i urge the nhtsa and chrysler do the right thing before it is too late. *tr

2007 jeep commander stalling while idling at a stop or parked and in idle. the vehicle idles rough and begins to stall. sometimes it recovers but when it does it acclerates and lunges forward. if my foot was not firmly on the brake, i would slam into the car or any object in front of me. i have 34,000 miles on it now. it has been occuring for over a year now (12-15k miles). i purchased the jeep from a jeep dealer after it had been owned for a year and had 13,000 miles on it. i do nto know if this was a problem for the preious owner but it is a continuing problem for me. it has been to the dealer 5 times for the problem and yet to be diagnosed or resolved. it is a dangerous driving situation and i have three young children in my car on a daily basis. i have no financial means to get a new car so forced to drive this unsafe one!!! please make chrysler recall and fix the 2007 commander for this unsafe stalling/acclerating problem!! i am putting march 13, 2010 as the incident date but it has happened so many times in the past year i could not even begin to remember them all.

2007 jeep commander has stalling issues when it is raining or air is wet. this occurs at idle and slow speeds. this model (2006 and 2007) has many complaints, but nothing is being done to correct it or to hold chrysler responsible. the stall can be dangerous and vehicle lunges forward when it automatically tried to recover before stalling. *tr

I have a 2007 jeep commander overland with a 5.7l v8 hemi motor with 35,000 miles on it. i am experiencing stalling with my vehicle. my vehicle has stalled three times now - once at a stop light, once while idling in a parking lot, and once while driving (around 10 -15 mph). i spoke with chrysler and they blew me off. i feel unsafe driving this vehicle and am fearful this will happen again at a high speed or somewhere where this stalling will result in an accident. while searching the internet and various forums, i found several complaints regarding this stalling issue. what can be done about this if chrysler denies the problem and insists they can't find anything wrong with the vehicle? it can't be a 'fluke' if thousands of jeep commander drivers are complaining about this same issue! *tr

I own a 2007 jeep commander. shortly after purchasing it, i was driving down the highway that runs through my town at about 40 mph and the vehicle stalled out. i tried to give it some gas to go but i kept decelerating. i shifted my gear shift to park, shut it off and restarted my car and it went back to running normally for a couple of days. it happened 4 more times before i took it back to the dealership. they told me that it was a computer error and they corrected it. two weeks later, i left my driveway and was heading down my street and my car started bucking uncontrollably. i came to a complete stop and put my car in park and waited a few seconds before shifting back to drive. i came to a stop sign a few blocks later and my jeep stalled out again. this has happened about 4 or 5 times since i took it to the dealership. i'm afraid that this vehicle is not safe for me or my family and i am starting to regret this purchase. *tr

We have an 07 jeep commander that has stalled while driving on two different occasions. on the first occasion the commander had been driven for 20 - 30 minutes when making a right turn the it just stalled. the second time the car had been driven for over 45 minutes when pulling into a parking lot the called stalled. after both incidents the comander would not start back up immediately. in both cases we narrowly missed getting into an accident from the cars behind us. my wife is the primary driver - we have a 4 month old and this is not a safe vehicle for them to be in. we took the vehicle to two different dealerships both said the could not replicate the incident so there is nothing they could do. the vehicle has been to 2 different chrysler dealerships both said that no codes were thrown so they don't know what to do. the second time it happened the dealership kept the car for several days putting 100 miles on it and nothing came of it. someone needs to figure this out before someone is killed. *cn
