 My truck back lights doesn't work when i turn my lights on. i called the dealership and they stated that it will cost $1000 to fix because it is an electrical problem. i really like my truck and would love for to keep it but i can not drive it at night. i have seen to many cars to explain in the atlanta area that are experiencing the same problems, and i do not think that it is fair that we pay our money for these cars and the dealer doesn't inform to us that there needs to be a recall on our vehicles and fix them, my husband has a ford truck and when they recalled something on his truck and they called him and sent him a letter and he took his truck and they fixed it with no problems i don't understand why it can't be the same way with jeep. please if you can help please do.

 Rear passenger tail light does not work at night or rather when the car lights are turned on. mechanic has replaced bulb, re-bent the connection, but the light still is not visible when lights are turned on. when lights are out, brake light, reverse light and turn signal work. my son has been pulled over by police thinking the lights had been fixed. its only a matter of time before he receives a ticket. our mechanic has offered to try and fix it without replacing both back light assemblies. *tr

 I recently purchased a 1999 jeep grand cherokee.the driver side brake light on my grand cherokee does not work at all when the lights are turned on. when the lights are off during the day the light works fine, dimmer than the passenger side, but it still lights up. i have tried to fix the problem by changing out the bulbs and the pigtails the light goes into but i cant ever get it to work. i have noticed that every grand cherokee in the same generation as mine has the same problem i have talked to multiple mechanics that said they have fixed upwards of 50 gc's with that same problem and you must replace both taillight assemblies because if you replace one it will short out immediately. i work in the auto parts business so i have access to the parts to fix it but the taillight assemblies are around $140 a piece. i would think that chrysler would have had a recall about it, seeing how common it is, but i have talked to my local dealer and they explained to me that it is up to nhtsa to issue a recall. i have received two tickets related to this incident. it becomes a hassle when i see all these jeeps with the same problem and nothing has been done about it and the problem has been going on for years. i would appreciate it if you could look into this problem, seeing how it is such a common problem that chrysler should take care of their defective products. *tr thanks a lot

 The rear brake light on the driver's side does not work properly. when the headlights are turned on, the brake light goes out when brake is depressed. the bulb, the light socket, and the entire light assembly have been replaced. replacing the entire light assembly is only a temporary fix, the brake light will again need to be repaired. this is not the first time for the brake light to malfunction. *tr

 Defective design of tail and brake lights. failure of weld to make contact so that the tail and brake lights worked. this problem occurred approximately 3 years ago. numerous repairs were made by auto mechanics, however, they wouldn't last. had both tail/brake light assemblies replaced at my cost of $243.96 just for the parts. the dealer where the parts were purchased said that they were not even making those parts for my year vehicle because they were defective, and junk so i had to purchase later model year parts. i currently have the old parts available for inspection. *tr

 Vehicle: 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo 2 wheel drive 4.0 6cyc automatic there is a chronic problem with the rear tail lights on this make and model of vehicle. the issue is with the light bulb carrier and not the wiring. the lights have gone out multiple times and require either the replacement of the bulb carrier or playing with the bulb until it is in a position that makes good electrical contact. i have noticed almost every similar jeep grand cherokee on the road has at least one rear tail light out ! how many accidents have been caused by this problem? *tr

 I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the headlights are so cloudy that one can barely see through them. i have never seen headlights do this , much less on a vehicle that is less than 10 years old. i contacted the company to no avail. i can send pictures for reference. i believe there was a failure in the manufacturing of these headlights that might include a failure to include a certain uv or other chemical component in the final production of this component.*ak

 I own a 1999 jeep gran chrokee.the headlamp covers are very badly destorted over,that its becoming hard to see the road at night.i have tried everything on the market to clean them,but nothing seems to work.i think this has become a safty issue,and needs to be looked into.jeep has refused to replace the defective covers.

 The plastic used in the headlight lens covers becomes brown with exposure to the sun. this is a dangerous problem and the only remedy that i have found is to purchase new headlight assemblies for about $200 each. this is unacceptable since the problem is due to the improper selection by the auto manufacturer of the correct polymer used to create the lenses. *jb

 I own a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the headlight lenses have turned opaque (about 15% reduction in light transmission, using a standard photographic light meter). i have tried to polish this opacity off the lenses, using standard consumer plastic polishes, but the problem seems to be in the plastic itself and not a surface defect. i contacted chrysler (1-800-992-1997) and talked to chris, employee #6cm. i was informed that chrysler considered this a maintenance problem. i consider the fact that approximatly 15% of the light energy produced by the head light bulbs is not making it's way onto the road surface when i use my headlights, a safety mater, and request that you look into this problem. thank you, peter campbell

 The interior of the headlamp covers on my jeep have, over time, become pitted and discolored to a point that the headlamps barely light the roadway. there is no way to separate the covers from the headlamp assembly in order to correct the problem. this has resulted in several near miss accidents.*ak

 The vehicle exhibits a sag/hesitation following a partial cool down restart, possibly an oxygen sensor problem. while making hard left turns at slow speeds (such as a u-turn), the airbag warning light illuminates and a audible chime is activated. the right side brake light assembly is burnt (internally) due to some kind of electrical overheating. the vehicle shifts hard, misses shifts, shifts repeatedly at constant speed and on a level grade. the rear differantial bumps very hard within 3-20 seconds of coming to a complete stop. an immovable fog has developed on the lenses of the composite headlight assemblies.*ak

 While in reverse and going into drive, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly which might have caused an accident. also, when starting vehicle with the headlight switch on, the headlights go off when instructed to be on. been to dealer several times. dealer cannot determine problem, they say it might be the computer module, but have not fixed that part. *ak

 Between years 3 and 5 replaced both tail light assembly units. not covered under extended warranty. problem starting vehicle. took to dealer at least 5 times. dealer kept replacing fuel pump and saying it was bad. problem still occurs. replaced transmission sensor. replaced hood hydraulics. now hearing noise from rear end at any speed. being told by my mechanical that rear end needs to be replaced. *jb

 Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the left turn signal and the brake lights failed intermittently. the brake light bulbs have been changed and the lights failed to operate normally. the dealer can not diagnose the failure; however, a mechanic advised her that there is a wiring problem. the perform service light was also illuminated; however, they are unable to turn it off. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 138000 and the current mileage was 140081.

 While driving at 40 mph, and upon pressing down on brake, vehicle shaks very hard, rotors appear to be very worn, vehicle has been taken to dealer approximately 5 times already. *ak consumer also stated there is a ticking noise from engine when starting up,steering damper and drag link assembly were loose,transmission shifts hard into reverse, right rear turn signal bulb was replaced, vehicle began to overheat, right side mirror was cracked,speaker was inoperative, the trim on the door panel was loose, exhaust system was loud, parking brake needed to be adjusted, passenger side seat belt was inoperative, passenger wiper blade was not cleaning the window, keyless entry remote was inoperative*slc
