 Tl -the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. while at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle continued to stall. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and the technicians advised that the cause of the failure was unknown. the vehicle was also taken to another dealer for further diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the power train control module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 167,000 and the current mileage was 196,000. kmj

 At highway speeds of 40 to 65mph, i am hearing a whine comming from the undercarriage. i presume it is from the transfer case or the front drive shaft. would like to know how to resolve this problem. this is my second jeep, and could be my last if i can't resolve this problem.

 The vehicle experienced the following problems: no horn, interior lights, or door locks, the abs/brakes lights were on, continuous overheating when idled, despite repeated brake work, they were still a problem, the dashlights didn't get bright as normal, hissing noise in the brakes (booster was replaced), blower motor was inoperative along with mode position (replaced blower motor resister wiring harness), front pinion seal leaked and was replaced, there was a broken bolt in the rear stabilizer bar (removed), when the vehicle was placed in drive from park, it shifted hard (replaced driveshaft), the control module was replaced, the brakes pulsated on numerous occasions (tsb was completed), the blower module was replaced, all gauges stopped working,all warning light would come on, the engine temperature climbed higher than normal (replaced the fan power transmitter), the windshield wipers had become inoperative, and the arm had broken (replaced the rear arm). the consumer requested the dealer to back the vehicle. mr scc

 My 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited w/42,000 miles. yes . not a typo . 42,000, orignal owner & scared to death to drive this suv. i have alot of the already problems, that have been reported. had to pay many, w/my own cash. this suv schould have came in 1 color lemon yellow. it is an accident watng to happen. the recent problem is now i have no a/c-heat or defroster. ths is due, to failure of the automatic temp control to work. i t started 1st by intermittently working, till now not working at all, this is just 1 more, to the list , of many other problems. i don't think that it is an coincidence that all my issue have happenned, almost exactly, in the order, of all the other complaints. i can't undestand how a company can get away w/this. this new problem can cost up to $2000, if it is, like previous reported problems, happens to be the blend doors. as a handicapped driver i drive less than 4,000 miles a year. this is the only auto i drive, thus the many, many probs have yet to raise thier head. i have read almost all complaints(too many to read) this suv schould be a total recall, i have never heard more complaints & problems, in my life, for any automobile. this suv schould be studied & reseached, on how not to build an automobile. just read the many complaints here & on the internet. we are not making this stuff up. i don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. we, the taxpayers, bailed them out. who is bailing out all the owners, of this death-trap? if that is not absurd enuff, many problems could have been repaired, by jeep & still can. what is the purpose, of nhsta, if not to intervene? you have all the complaints. hundreds of them. you have them posted, yet, we taxpayers/owners safety, has been at risk ever since this suv was driven out of the showroom. how did you not make a recall on the rotor/brakes issue which was reported at 3,000 miles? i am so frustrated. is braking problems not a safety issue? please, help us! *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that she replaced her transmission module in march of 2008. the part was replaced again in december of 2008. the vehicle was recently driven and the contact stated that the module has begun to fail for the third time. the contact feels that this is a manufacturer defect and would like an investigation. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 184,000.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled. the contact had to quickly pull the vehicle off the road to avoid a crash. while his daughter was traveling up an on-ramp, the vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. by the time the contact arrived to assist, the vehicle was able to be restarted. the failure also occurred while driving 40 mph. the contact replaced the fuel filter himself before calling the dealer to inquire about nhtsa campaign id number 08v203000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)). the vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 120,000.

 Truck one day went to sh*t from 2nd into 3rd or the overdrive and made a huge clunk and jerked the truck severely.. now after you have the truck warmed up and are going to hit 3rd gear truck will do the same and the shift down again right away causing vehicle to clunk and jerk hard continuously.. i must drive with the overdrive turned off and there for resulting in higher rpm at a high speed. *nm

 Dt: 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle has 48,677 miles currently. at 14,754 miles they resurfaced the front brake rotors and replaced the pads, this was on october 18, 2000. then on july 15, 2002, at 28,186 miles the front brake rotors had to be replaced and the pads. on may 3, 2004 at 42,123 miles, the rotors had to be resurfaced and replace the pads. on monday, july 11, 2005 at 48,502 miles the vehicle was taken in for a lube job and the consumer asked to have the brakes checked because he felt pulsation in the brake. she was told the rotors need to be replaced again and new pads would be needed. the dealership states the brakes are not covered under the warranty because they are considered wear and tear items and only covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles. after speaking with the district service manager, she was reimbursed, $211, for the work done on may 3, 2004. according to the service department, this model is having problems with the front brake system. it is due to the fact that they are no longer made of asbestos. when she called the manufacturer, all they did was read the warranty to him. *ak there was a vibration under the vehicle, pulsation from the brakes, a leaking transfer case, rear differential leak, vibration in the front end, a slight brake pulsation, regular pulsation from the brakes, grinding sound rear end, and radiator leaking. *sc *tt

 Consumer complained about a transfer case problem. when driving at approximately 40 mph there was a loud clanking sound coming from the front undercarriage. consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, and was told the vehicle had dusty brake pads, but that was not the issue. then, consumer was told that the constant velocity joints were leaking. also, consumer was told that the driveshaft needed to be replaced. consumer felt that the dealership did not know what the problem was, and perhaps was covering up the real problem. *ak recall campaign; component: fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system:injectors. the consumer stated that the vehicle would not start. the consumer stated that the engine had an extended crank before starting. fuel pump assembly and pump crank repair kit installed. the consumer stated that there is a shimmy when the brakes are applied. when sitting at a stop light having the vehicle in gear it vibrates. the left outer cv boot was leaking. the engine light came on. the consumer stated that the transmission slams into gear. *tc

 I will start by saying that in the past few months i have experienced a very scary situation while operating my jeep. the problem that i've experiencing is while the vehicle is in reverse it will not stop. on a few occasions while backing into a parking space the jeep will continue to roll backwards without stopping, this is while i have both feet on the brake to stop it. it has most recently happened two days ago (august 3, 2004) while backing into a parking space at work the very same thing occurred, the only thing that stopped the jeep was a median that was behing my parking space where it is my fear that may have been the only reason the jeep stopped. my fear is that someone may be walking behind or someone else's property will be behind me, and i will not be able to stop the jeep in time. i've tried on several occasions to take it to a jeep dealer or the company where i purchased the vehicle (carmax), all i ever get is an appointment that is either a month or month and a half away. i believe that at this point this vehicle is very dangerous to drive. i had the brakes and rotors done all the way around in january of this year. *ak

 My wife had the car in park, left the car to close our gate and the car came out of park and backed over her. when she got out from under the vehicle she came into the house brushed and cut. i called the ems and went out to move the vehicle. it still was in park with the engine running. jeep's rep came out and looked at it and his answer was the poerational mannal; states that when you leave your vehicle you must put it in park turn off the engine and remove the keys from the car. ok i may agree with that, but she was only closing the gate. what my concerns is that there must be something wrong with the trans for this to happen . *ak

 1999 jeep grand cherokee loredo exhibits the following problems: 1) lurch when shifting from park to reverse along with a noticeable 'thump' noise 2) humming noise at highway speed (65-75 mph) that graduated into a sudden 'pop' noise. this issue caused a loud grinding noise which i am now trying to deal with. dealership informed me that this was a common problem in 1999 and 2000 model year for rear differential due to diffential supplier to chrysler overtorqueing differential components. 3) driver's side door lock failure*ak

 1999 jeep grand cherokee with 48000 miles that needs an $1800.00 transmission overhaul! how absurd!! after contacting jeep, it was made clear to me that they accept no responsiblity in this matter. hard to believe our american auto makers can't do better than this.

 The automatic transmission does not shift gears properly. also the vehicle experiences extended stopping distances when depressing the brake pedal which has almost caused a collision. the dealer attempted to repair the vehicle but the problems still exist. please provide further details. *ph

 Sporadic harsh 1-2 shift at low speeds of 15-20 mph, usually soon after a cold start of the engine. jeep seems to jump or stall, which is especially dangerous when pulling out into traffic. check engine light illuminates shortly after each incident. reprogramming the transmission computer multiple times, replacing the solonoid pack, and replacing the control module have all failed to correct the problem. problem has occurred intermittently throughout the nearly 60,000 miles driven to date. reported to jeep dealer at the following mileage intervals: 9,606 miles, 13,575 miles, 15,113 miles, 56,368 miles, 56,917 miles, 57,115 miles, and 58,190 miles.

 I own a 1999 jeep grand cherokee and since the purchase date i have had problems ranging from brakes to check engine lights, most recently the transmission is beginning to leak fluid. i have contacted jeep and the local dealer about this issue and they are not willing to step forward on this issue. the vehicle has 30,k miles and is a 3rd vehicle for me to use, so it does not get a lot of usuage. at this point i would consider this a complaint issue as the vehicle is in immaculate condition, except for the leaking transmission. i would like to inquire as to the number of '99 jeeps that are experiencing the same issue. i have been communicating with other jeep owners that have the exact same issue. i have encouraged them to do the same as i am with my filed complaint. also, jeep has been extremely arrogant about their responses to not assist with this matter.

 Had car 1 yr, 62,xxx mi; when we test drove with 36,xxx miles, the brakes shook violently when braking; dealer installed new rotors; 3 months later i replaced brakes; 3 months after that vibrating again - rotors turned and replaced brakes again; brakes are squeaking again now; in shop for third time for transmission problems - slips gears, clunking in low gears, won't shift, surges ahead when stopping; revs up prior to shifting; dealer keeps replacing parts to fix the problem; replaced 2 electrical window regulators (drivers & passengers side). this gorgeous vehicle is a nightmare. *jb

 Check engine light came on. took it to my mechanic to trouble-shoot. he indicated it was a transmission problem and recommended a transmission specialist. the transmission specialist had the car for 2 days and finally refused to work on it saying that he had seen numerous 1999 models with this problem and referred me to the dealer. car was out of warranty; dealer service dept indicated the problem wasn't wide-spread. 1,1000 to fix. *jb

 Car was making a low pitched grunting noise, and slow on acceleration, took it to the dealership and found that the transfer case had a hole in it. caused by the chain in the transfer case becoming loose and rubbing against the case.

 4 wheel drive failure on snowy incline vehicle came out of 4 wheel low , lost control of vehicle and vehicle slid backwards at least 75 to 100 ft. into an embankment. prior to this failure, i was coming up snowy driveway the night before and had vehicle in 4 wheel low and vehicle would not make it up hill and slid backwards on me, at that time i thought it was due to my driving however the next day it occurred again and realized that vehicle had kicked out of 4 wheel drive and only rear wheels working. premature wearing of front brake pads and rotors causing vehicle to vibrate, shimmy and squeal when appling brakes. dt

 The vehicle exhibits a sag/hesitation following a partial cool down restart, possibly an oxygen sensor problem. while making hard left turns at slow speeds (such as a u-turn), the airbag warning light illuminates and a audible chime is activated. the right side brake light assembly is burnt (internally) due to some kind of electrical overheating. the vehicle shifts hard, misses shifts, shifts repeatedly at constant speed and on a level grade. the rear differantial bumps very hard within 3-20 seconds of coming to a complete stop. an immovable fog has developed on the lenses of the composite headlight assemblies.*ak

 While traveling down a mountain road, gaining speed, put car into 2nd gear in order to slow down and not over-use the brakes...car suddenly bolted back and brakes locked up and became unresponsive. i steered out of hitting the median , (it was a windy mountain road), but hit the back of a tractor trailor.. i was then hit from behind by another tractor-trailor and projected fowared. i was able to manuever over to shoulder of road. placed car's transmission in park..but it continued to move foward !!! i had minor aches and pains, car sustained at least $9500 worth of collission damage. told repair to check brakes and transmission...they said everything ok.. i did not do anything unusual in this driving experience. i am extremely fearful of the vehicle. it is still in shop waiting for final estimate. i want to make sure the frame and brakes and transmission are ok before i consider using vehicle again. my confidence is lost. can jeep respond and let me know why this happened...will they buy-back ? it is on extended warranty til january 2003 or 43,000 miles. i just purchased in january of 2002. i now realize many jeeps have many problems.*ak

 What a lemon! we are averaging $2000/year in repairs. power windows that stop working, water pump breaks, brake rotors need replacing before brakes wear out, leaking differential, transmission, and now we're told by dealer service department we need a new transfer case. whoever designed/built/sold this vehicle doesn't have much pride in their workmanship.

 I am an owner of a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited v8. i have encountered many problems with this vehicle but some have already been resolved under manufacturer's warranty. a couple problems still exist though. one main problem is that my vehicle occasionally stalls out on me at red lights. it idles very slow (@400 rpm) and this is usually when the vehicle fails on me. i'll lose power to the transmission, but all the electrical items will still work, such as the radio and heater. when the engine dies out, the check engine and airbag lights will display. this problem has been brought to the attention of two dealerships but has not yet been resolved. another problem i have is that i will feel a big clunk when i am accelerating, usually when i first start to drive off. the second type of clunk i feel is when i put the vehicle in reverse to drive. i will feel a big bang like somebody had hit me from behind. this will specifically happen during the shift from reverse to drive. the third problem i encounter happens when i have my heater on. i will have the control settings set @80's and the air conditioner will operate. i do not have the setting at defrost mode. it is in regular mode and when i want the heat, the ac plus the heat will trigger. i would greatly appreciate it if these problems were looked into. thank you. *ak

 Since date of purchase wipers did not function, air conditioner intermittently fails to blow air for periods up to 30-60 seconds. can occur repeatedly, with only seconds in between. overhead computer system repeatedly sounds alarms that the lift gate is open when it is closed. rear defroster comes on at its own whim, and at times will not turn off unless key is turned off. transmission was replaced. on board panic system (integrated with the keyless entry system) goes off at will, sounding the horn and flashing lights. occurs almost continually when vehicle is locked. the body control module was replaced, numerous attempts at investigating the wiring, replacing connectors and sensors have still left us with the defects. the vehicle is well known in the community because it simply cannot be silenced. we have been told that numerous other 1999 and 2000 models of grand cherokees have had similar problems, especially with respect to the transmission which has caught fire when it failed during driving (as related by a jeep dealer service department) we were lucky my husband noticed a problem before it reached the point of no return. please contact if additional information is needed, will be happy to provide whatever it necessary to begin an investigation into the plague known as the grand cherokee. *ak

 Our 99 jeep grand cherokee is 4 months old and is nothing but trouble; the transfer case was replaced, the car makes a grinding noise at highway speeds and the dealer thought the replacement of the transfer case would solve the problem. it didn't however. furthermore the gear oil had to be replaced because the car would buck and even stall sometimes when i would make tight turn. furthermore the transmission is sometimes clunking. our power window needs a new motor. the car keeps on pulling to the right and that still hasn't been fixed. we have been very disappointed and wish the lemon law would be a little bit more protective of consumers than car dealers and manufacturers. *ak

 While driving to work the transmission got stuck in first gear and would not shift into second gear or anyother gear for that matter. i was stuck driving a maximum of 20 mph to work. i had to get the vehicle towed to the dealership. since then i have had problems with the transmission shift hard between first and second grear.  Engine dies at any speed without warning and without illuminating the check engine light. no error codes are stored. it acts as if someone just turned the ignition key to off and all of the gauges on the instrument panel are zeroed to the left but everything else electrical still works, starter, power windows, radio, horn, lights, power-seats, etc. etc.. this tends to happen more often on warm days, over 88 degrees f and seems to be a shutdown of the pcm which controls the fuel pump, fuel injectors and the ignition system. when the pcm shuts down, it drops output to pcm's computer bus called the ccd. i changed the parts that the dealer wanted to change like the fuel pump, crank and cam sensors and cleaned a host of other sensors but the problem remains. the problem is with the pcm. the dealer denies coverage because the mileage has just crept over 80,000 miles although i began discussing it with them and buying parts from them back on march 5, 2005. this is an extremely dangerous condition that warrants the pcm, p/n rl044427ac through aj, on the 1999 jeep grand cherokee be recalled. *nm

 My wife had stopped to get mail from rural mailbox. stopped vehicle, placed transmssion lever in park and shut off engine. upon return, could not start engine. called me on cell phone to come to her aid. car would not start and shift lever could not be moved. suspected neutral safety switch, and attempted to force the shift lever, which caused a crunching sound and the engine then was able to start and the transmission was engaged. removal of the console cover revealed a plastic switch with place for attachment of two cables. the front cable was disengaged and seems to be connected to the steering/brake pedal ( out of view). there is a pin in this assembly that aligns the plastic components and allows the button on the shift lever to move between positions. the pin had slipped out, and was re-inserted.the vehicle could now be started without depressing the brake pedal, and the steering wheel no longer locked when shutting the ignition off. the shifter worked normally, locking up in park and requiring the lever button be depressed when shifting. apparantly the pin has slipped out again and my wife reported on 12/29/03 that the button no longer has any affect and is not required to go between positions on the shift pattern. this sounds like the problem i have read about with gr cherokees moving unattended. it is time chrysler owned up to this potentially serious issue. this is our third grand cherokee and it will be the last.

 After reading about a recent investigation into the grand cherokee going into reverse, it prompted me to report the problems i have had with this vehicle. my grand cherokee had gone into reverse unexpectedly twice now. once it resulted in damage. the second time i caught it. it appears that when shifting into park, the shifter will bounce back into reverse without warning. on both occasions i was exiting the vehicle when it began to go into reverse. the second problem involves the front disc assemblies. it appears that they warp early in their lifespan. i noticed a lot of vibration when applying brakes at speeds greater than 40 mph. this started at about 15000 miles and gets progressively worse. several other grand cherokee owners have said to me that they have experienced the same problem. *ak

 I bought a 1999 grand cherokee 4x2 with 55000 miles and now it has 93000 and i have noticed a buzz from the rear that has progressed to a howl or whine. i took it to a local shop and i was told that i need it a complete overhaul of the rear axle and that it would cost me anywhere from $1300 to $1600 to have it done and that most likely it would happen again because even the new ones fail too. i know i am not the only one having this problem since i did a little bit of research and found that other people with even less miles on their jeeps are having this problem too. how can a car with less than 100 thousand miles or less has this kind of problems? how come there is not a recall on this matter? why are we not holding chrysler company responsible for this? is there anything that i can do to have the dealer fix their mistakes? thank you. *jb

 This vehicle has had a clunking noise in the transmission ever since i purchased it. in that time the dealership has said the noise was caused by the ring and pinion which has been replaced. it has been diagnosed as the transfer case chain being bad which was replaced. it has been diagnosed as the rear gears being bad which were replaced. it has been a tsb which was a ball and transmission plate valve which were replaced. they also replaced the transfer case as it was bad. lastly, they removed and reconditioned the transmission. none of these have corrected my car. however, now that it is out of warranty they tell me for approx. $3000 they will replace the rear end as it is bad.

 My issue is with jeep and how they have an issue with gear noise and they are replacing the gears and bearings etc. and the problem still exists. i have been on the internet several times in the last month , and i cannot believe how many people are having the same problems. the list is getting bigger, but the same problems seem to be consistant! i also am having the clunk in my transmission shifting form park to drive or reverse. however the dealer has told me that this is normal . also the gear noise is at an acceptable level as far as they are concerned. they said i can bring my jeep back in if i want and they can replace the gears for the third time ,however the noise is in aprox. 85% of the vehicles that are out their. i am going to file for arbitration,however i have been told that my chances are not good due to the severity of my problem. i , as well as many unhappy customers are pleading with you to do somthing about the jeep co. and either make them fix the problem , make them recall these thousands of vehicles out on the market or i would like my money back so i can take my business some where else.

 When starting the vehicle and shifting from park to drive the transmission did not feel like it engaged. after not engaging the vehicle was put in park and shifted into drive again. the transmission still did not feel like it engaged. not being sure i started to apply the gas with no forward movement. suddenly when the rpm's reached about 1500-2000 rpm's the vehicle engaged into drive causing my vehicle to hit the parked car in front of it. only minor damage was done since the vehicle to the front was far enough away and i was able to stop just soon enough to only tap the forward vehicle. since the vehicle was new there have been loud banging noises coming from the rear while stopping,after stopping and releasing the brake or without the air conditioning, while stopped and the rpm's fall below 500 rpm's. the bang sounds as if there is tension being released somewhere causing the vehicle to lurch forward. shifting the gear selector (from park to drive and park to reverse etc) is also creating a loud bang and very rough shift,while causing the car to again seem like it wants to take off. to date the dealer either says he can not duplicate or what he does hear is normal.

 In april of 2002 i purchased a used 1999 jeep grand cherokee from a local dealer because it had only 14000 miles on it. i have had to replace the brake rotors and pads due to vibration 2 times. at 46000 miles i put new tires on this to quiet a noise problem. now at 65000 miles the noise is extreme coming from drive train. i was told today there is a defect in the ring/pinion gear assemblies used on the 99/00 model year jeeps. but there has yet to be a recall regarding this condition. i am very disappointed in the durability of the product, as it should have lasted far longer than 65000 miles, especially for the amount paid for it! hopefully chrysler will take responsibility for poor engineering and design quality. but i doubt it. the roaring and howling noise is so loud that you can not hear others talking at road speed, and i am greatly concerned about the safety of the vehicle, but due to the great cost of it, i cannot trade it or afford to repair it because i am on disability!!!!!!!!!! *nlm

 I belive the design/parts/assembly of this entire drivetrain are deffective, resulting in abnormal wear and inevitable premature failure. this, and any other, 1999 jeep grand cherokee exhibit a driveline noise or whine at almost any speed. i do not know exactly what it is, but somethings wrong. the internet is loaded with newsgroup posts from owners that experienced this fault. after many trips to the shop, while still under warranty, the servicing dealer finally explained the noise/whine was prevalent in every car of this model year. i was told chrysler actually had a rating scale in place for the dealers to justify which vehicles they would attempt to repair. my letter to chryslers customer assistance center resulted only in a return phone call with a live with it attitude, which demonstrated their indifference or actually acceptance of this defect. with now over 100k miles, this design flaw has cost well into the thousands of dollars for repairs, not to mention the obvious value loss at the time of trade or resale.*ak

 Rear-back window leaked,reseal failed,had to remove window and reseal, took 4 days. front differential failed causing front tires to hop during tight turns,diff replaced took 3 days. when stopped at a stop light truck lurches forward almost as if hit from behind, this happens 1 sometimes 2 times at one stoplight, engine revs also increase when this happens, dealer cannot fix. gas tank is very hard to fill the pump stops before it is full and many times gas spills all over truck and pavement causing a fire hazzard, also gas cap is very hard to remove.

 This vehicle has a loud whine in the drive train at highway speeds (55-70mph). it has quadra trac ii powertrain. the vehicle has been in service 4 times for a total of 19 days over the last 2 months to correct the problem. chrysler seems unable to fix. the internet is littered with complaints about this problem, which seems to be limited to quadra trac ii drivetrains. this is a wide-spread problem. pressure should be brought to jeep chrysler to fix. also, i firmly believe that the dealer knew about this problem, but did not reveal to us.

 Hello nhtsa, i am writing to file a complaint about my 1999 jeep grand cherokee. immediately following the purchase (not lease) of my gc, my wife and i noticed a strong jolt in the rear end of the vehicle whenever we came to a stop. i brought our vehicle back to our dealership 2 times for inspection but each time my dealer, manhattan jeep (a 5-star dealer in new york city) told us that all of the new '99s do that and that all the ones with the v8 do that. that wasn't what i wanted to hear but i thought that it might go away after a few more miles. i now have over 7,000 miles on my vehicle and the problem is getting worse. i have written to customer relations at daimlerchrysler to report my problem. i do have a case number which they've assigned to me. i was told by customer relations that i should try another dealer. since i was getting no satisfaction from customer relations, i called the sales department at difeo chrysler in jersey city, new jersey and spoke to a sales representative. i posed as a potential buyer of a 2000 grand cherokee. i asked about the quality problems that the 1999 model had and i was told by the salesperson that all of the 1999s produced before september 1999 had a defective driveshaft and that they should be replaced. he assured me that the defects had been corrected for the 2000 model year. so now i have customer service denying the problem while the sales department was very well aware of the problem. i now scheduled a service appointment at bayside chrysler-plymouth-jeep in bayside, new york. the service department at bayside immediately knew what the problem was and i was told that i needed a new driveshaft #52099487ac. with such a large number of vechcles affected, shouldn't jeep have notivied owners and not just dealers about the defect? *ak

 Purchased a jeep grand cehrokee last october. in december i had to have the rotors replaced within 1,000 miles of the original replacement, the rotors warped again. i replaced the rotors again in march, by july the rotors had once again warped. the brake company who replaced the rotors both times with new factory parts will not award the waranty of the rotors. they said it is a problem with the 1999 jeep grand cherokees and not their products. i am forced to again pay to have the rotors replaced. this is the third time in less then a year. i have never had this problem with another vehicle i have owned. in addition, the car exhibits a stop and bump every time the vehicle comes to a stop. i have seen this problem addressed with the drive shafts, but apparently even replacing this part, does not cause the vehicle to stop this behavior. lastly, the vehicle is hard to shift from second to third gears. i did not expect to have this many problems with a vehicle first of all that costs this much and secondly that is so new. i am extremely dissappointed. *la

 This vehicle has many/many inherent problems, it has an enging problem that causes the engine to stop running. we are told that they dont know what the problem is but would like to put co pilot in the car to log a code when the problem occurs, however we have been told that they have had this problem on other cars and have not been able to have the co pilot log in any error codes. so they bought the car back from the owners. it would take quite some time for us to list all of the inherent problems that all these new jeeps have 1999 0r 2000 models. if you could go to the site on the net and type in 4x44u you will be astounded at all the frustrated folks nation wide. the car also has many drivetrain problems to many to list, it is overwhelming. please help us, we worked hard for that $38.000 dollars we gave to chrysler and they are just putting it back on us, the customer's. thank you very much. ken and barb davis.

 Idle goes up and down at stop. idle goes up and jeep will gain speed without foot on gas. idle goes up and jeep will gain speed in reverse. idle burps at stop and jeep jumps like it was hit from behind. rear end whines while traveling and get louder till 75mph then mostly subsides. transmission was replaced ( for no reason we could tell) to stop whine. whine continues in the rear end. dealer states normal. steering wheel shakes on extreme left or right turns forward or reverse until transmission was replaced. dealer stated shaking was normal. jeep has 2000 miles.

 Transfer case issues on 1999 jeep grand cherokee. since i have had the jeep i have had to replace the seals on the transfer case multiple times. to me it appears that there is some sort of defect in its design. the seal will start to leak which causes the transfer case to lock up. this causes a loud thudding noise and the car to jerk when coming to a stop. also, in situations where the car is cold it will not shift correctly causing excessive engine whining and inability to accelerate correctly. *la
