The driver side front seat track on this vehicle have failed 5 times since 2004. the first track was repaired twice. finally in 2008 i purchased a brand new track for over $500 at park jeep in burnsville, mn. that one lasted 3 years and failed and it was repaired once. 6 months ago it finall failed again and my driver seat became a rocking chair for the 5th time. i replaced that one with a used one i found and am just waiting for that one to come apart.

While driving, the drivers seat had something break underneath it causing the seat to become more of a rocking chair, wobbling back and forth and to the side. my 19 year old son was driving at the time, and thank goodness he was preparing to stop at a stop sign and he almost was thrown backwards. now this vehicle is undriveable. have called around to jeep dealers and found out that it is the power seat adjuster which needs replacing. mopar has discontinued this part and it is not available. i have seen on other complaints the same thing has happened to many others. we need some kind of satisfaction on this obviously unsafe part.

On a recent day-long trip, the electric seat heater on driver's side overheated, causing a 4 diamerter badly blisterered burn on the back of my leg. a recall for this defect was issued on 4/7/2009 for 2001-2004 models (nhtsa campaign number: 09v117000 ), but i was not able to find one for the 1999 grand cherokee limited. the local dealer (lithia in grants pass, or) requested i submit this so he can make the proper repairs free of charge as specified for the 2001-2004 models

While parked, i leaned back in my seat and the plate that connects to the floor broke. if i were in an accident and the same had happened, a lot of good a seat belt would have done.

Tl-the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated the front driver's side seat partially detached from the frame which caused a rocking motion when driving. the vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where the seat bracket was welded to the frame. four months later, the failure recurred and the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate failure was 140,000. js

No event triggered my seat failure, the seat track (frame) broke and the seat is behaving like a rocking chair. it hurts my back to drive and is very unsafe. this is my driver's front seat that is broken. i did nothing to cause it to break. i cannot find another seat anywhere without having to order a new one through the dealer, which i've been quoted up to $1,500. this is outragsous, a seat breaking in normal driving conditions at 70,000 miles, and i'm the original owner and drive normally, and have had no accidents impacting my seat that broke abruptly. it's a power seat, laredo model, code fll5. this is a seriously defective and unsafe product, and i will never buy another jeep again.

I own a 1999 jeep grand cherokee i have had the driver seat welded 3 to 4 times since 2005. now the seat and brackets are so bad drivers seat snapped near the top and rear the bracket. i thank the powers that i wasn't driving in traffic when it happened..... i think jeep and the chrysler corp should replace my and all of these brackets in all jeeps before someone dies as a result of the incident.

My drivers seat has broken down and become very uncomforable, and the passenger side makes a clunk noise when someone sits in it during breaking and acceleration this is.one of the many things to have broken on this seat. very poor quality!

Two complaints-(1) at approximately 120,000 miles the diver's front seat bracket broke and began leaning the seat backwards. after another 8,000 miles the bracket completely broke. it was welded by a professional welder and replaced. at approximately 138,000 miles it broke again and will have to be welded again but i cannot afford to pay to have it fixed right now. i researched and found that this is a very, very common complaint and safety issue on my model-99 jeep grand cherokee. (2) at approximately 142,000 miles the air bag light began coming on and going off intermitently and now it does so frequently, especially when turning. i have been advised by a mechanic friend that it is the clockspring wires in the steering column and hat only a dealer can fix it. like the seat problem, this is a safety issue and from my research i have found that it is a very, very common issue as well. i cannot afford to have a dealer replace the clocksping as i have been quoted upwards of $300 to do so.

I have a 1999 grand jeep cherokee. my front drive seat is broken as well. i've owned many cars in my life, and i've never had a broken seat. i should be a recall on the 1999 jeeps. it's up there with having a working air bag. no one should have to pay to have their driver seat fix, when that should be one thing they shouldn't have to worry about. it's happening to a lot of grand jeep cherokees. i hope they do a recall, they do not want to be like toyota.

I currently own a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. over the last year i noticed a squeaking noise coming from driver's side seat. the noise became more apparent after i would hit bumps in the road or adjust my seating position. on the 10th of jun i was driving my car and the front of my seat popped off of the power seat track. my seat flipped back and rested on the rear seat. i almost lost control of the vehicle before i was able to lean forward and regain my balance. the seat is still only attached by the rear pivot points. i had to lower my rear seats and push my drivers seat back until it could be stabilized. i took my car to the dealership and they stated that the entire seat needed to be replaced along with the track and that the repairs were my responsibility. jeep obviously failed to engineer their seat tracks properly which almost caused me to lose control of my vehicle.

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee has just had it's third failure of the driver's seat frame. the first time that the seat frame broke back in 2002 it was covered under warranty with chrysler. chrysler replaced the seat frame with a new seat frame. it broke again in 2006. this time i had it welded and it lasted until april 2010 when it broke again! each time that this has happened i was driving the car, while accelerating, and it snapped and threw me backwards in the seat towards the rear seat area. thankfully, i was able to control the car each time and then placed temporary supports around the seat until i could have the repair completed. i am planning to have the frame welded again this time. i am sorry that i did not report this before now. i am a very experienced driver and i am afraid to allow my young drivers in the household to drive this jeep any longer. i am the only one to drive it.

The seat bracket on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee broke while i was driving causing the seat to float and move up and down on that corner. i pulled over and looked under the seat to find a break on a piece of flat steel that is used to raise the seat up and down with the electric motors. there was no crash or other outside influence causing the seat to break. it is unsafe to drive because the driver is not secure while making turns. i think it is very dangerous if i was to be in a crash! the metal seems very thin on these areas where the electric seat adjust has to scissor lift up and down. i drive a lot across two states to pick up my children - so i had someone weld the seat bracket back together. it held for about 3 months and now it is broke again. if the seat brackets are this weak, how will it hold together in a crash??? please help me and others. i have heard of one other person with a similar problem on a 2000 jeep cherokee (not grand). *tr

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee front driver's seat has broken in two spots. front left weld and rear right weld. i am extremely fortunate that the break of the weld did not happen while i was driving at a normal rate of speed, if it did, a severe and tragic accident could have occurred. the main reason i am writing to you is the fact, during my research for a fix or replacement seat, i stumbled across a few websites with consumers, like myself, inquiring why this happened. we are not talking about a handful, we are talking over a thousand entries of the same issue happening to other consumers. and this is more than likely the tip of the ice berg since many, many folks would never post to a blog or even use the internet as a platform for complaint. jeep chrysler should be responsible for their poor quality. what will it take for the powers to be to do the right thing by the consumer. accidental death due to a car accident caused by poor workmanship. please advise. by the comments i have reviewed, this is a case of poor quality and second class workmanship of the welds/frame of the seats in these vehicles. *tr

 1. normal wear and tear lead to the failure of the driver seat anchoring. 2. the rear anchoring of the driver seat buckled under normal conditions while driving. the metal broke at two locations causing the seat to wobble severely making driving safely impossible. 3. according to jeep, the entire seat must be replaced at my expense. reinforcement welding could repair the problem and prevent future failure of the driver seat during normal operation. *tr

The left front bracket on my driver's seat broke. the seat now wobbles, and is extremely dangerous to drive. it is a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. there was no mistreating of the vehicle, the bracket broke under normal use. there have been multiple complaints of this exact same problem on these vehicles. someone may be seriously injured or killed if this issue is not addressed. *tr

I am facing another broken seat bracket on a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. this is the second broken bracket i have had on the same seat in less than 4 years. the last time i replaced it, the part cost $170. now i'm told it will cost me over $300. and that's just the cost for the part--it doesn't include labor. this part being broken results in my vehicle being unsafe to drive. if i were to be in an accident, i seriously doubt that my seat would keep me safely within the seat. i hate even to think what could happen, but if i'm traveling at 70 m.p.h. and i am hit, the momentum of my adult body would not be protected by this faulty seat design. it needs to be remedied by the manufacturer, chrysler corporation. *tr

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited w/42,000 miles. yes . not a typo . 42,000, orignal owner & scared to death to drive this suv. i have alot of the already problems, that have been reported. had to pay many, w/my own cash. this suv schould have came in 1 color lemon yellow. it is an accident watng to happen. the recent problem is now i have no a/c-heat or defroster. ths is due, to failure of the automatic temp control to work. i t started 1st by intermittently working, till now not working at all, this is just 1 more, to the list , of many other problems. i don't think that it is an coincidence that all my issue have happenned, almost exactly, in the order, of all the other complaints. i can't undestand how a company can get away w/this. this new problem can cost up to $2000, if it is, like previous reported problems, happens to be the blend doors. as a handicapped driver i drive less than 4,000 miles a year. this is the only auto i drive, thus the many, many probs have yet to raise thier head. i have read almost all complaints(too many to read) this suv schould be a total recall, i have never heard more complaints & problems, in my life, for any automobile. this suv schould be studied & reseached, on how not to build an automobile. just read the many complaints here & on the internet. we are not making this stuff up. i don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. we, the taxpayers, bailed them out. who is bailing out all the owners, of this death-trap? if that is not absurd enuff, many problems could have been repaired, by jeep & still can. what is the purpose, of nhsta, if not to intervene? you have all the complaints. hundreds of them. you have them posted, yet, we taxpayers/owners safety, has been at risk ever since this suv was driven out of the showroom. how did you not make a recall on the rotor/brakes issue which was reported at 3,000 miles? i am so frustrated. is braking problems not a safety issue? please, help us! *tr

Drivers side seat bolts have pulled through the seat frame that holds it to the car. failure occurred 3 years ago. cost for new frame and installing was $850. so we keep the back seat folded forward so the front seat, in the 'furtherest back' position, rests against the back seat and we have wire twisted to hold the seat in place as best as possible. we were told since it was out of warranty, chyrsler would not fix it, even though in our mechanic's opinion it is obviously a flaw structure of the seat and not something that should have happened with such low mileage. vehicle was purchased new and original driver is only driver (fortunately he is long legged) and since the failure it is only driven to and from work (20 miles a day). current mileage is 68,798. *tr

The driver's side seat has failed twice; the first time 2 years ago, when the bolts holding the seat the the frame broke, causing the seat to float in the seat railing, and again this week, where the frame holding the seat broke. in both cases, i believe this could lead to an significant increase in injury, should the vehicle get into an accident. when i spoke with both the dealership & chrysler, they said as the vehicle was out of warranty, they would do nothing about it. when i brought up the potential danger, they wanted me to submit my bills for review, documentation they can get from the dealership.

Noticed that the seat felt like it wobbled but could not readily detect problem. after problem appeared to worsen i made a thorough check. i found that at the front left corner of the drivers seat the metal had failed around the point of attachement to the floor/chassis. this left the seat basically unattached at this point. i plan on contacting the original dealership today to determine repair process.*ak

SEATS - FRONT ASSEMBLY - POWER ADJUST

The driver's side power seat adjuster broke and now the seat is wiggling and wobbling. i took the vehicle to a dealership, and was quoted $900.00 to resolve this issue. they stated that the entire seat adjuster would have to be replaced. i have never had a problem with any other vehicle i owned. i am forced to pay for this repair when it is clearly a manufacturer's s defect. *ak

Problem with seat on the driver's side. while getting an i.d. from the rear seat, a weld, from a piece of flat stock metal, 1/8 inch by 1in.x1 in., disconnected. this cause the seat to rock, back and fourth. the other three bar sections could also, detach because of this. i have an extended coverage but, i 'm told it's not covered. i would have to pay, over $900.00 dollars to have this fix. they, the dealership, would need to replace the whole under section, in order to rememdy the problem.this this is not a normal thing, i feel that happens.i've had a number of cars etc., never this problem. i'm told, it can't be rewelded back in place. and i can't drive the car as is.the whole seat could come flying through the front glass. can you help me with this issue?*ak

The driver seat on my 1999 jeep cherokee laredo have given way. both support bolts have sheared leaving the seat unsupported. this happened in normal driving conditions. i contacted chrysler, with no satisfaction. i was told that the car is out of warranty. this seems to be a serious defect in the seat support system. *ak

Broken elevator bracket on drivers power seat. the front left bracket has broken at the weld. it does not appear that this weld had been adequately fused to the axis shaft. the bracket broke in half at the point where it is intersected by the axis component. sometimes this seat rocks backward suddenly when driving which diminishes my ability to control the vehicle. i am more concerned that the drivers seat is not anchored to the vehicle chassis as designed. in the event of being the victim of a rear end collision, i anticipate being thrown to the rear of the cab due to lack of restraint. i am virtually the only person that has driven this vehicle and the seat has only been elevated from its lowest position a few times. the repair estimate is $586 (to replace the entire assembly) as the warranty has expired. this failure is clearly a manufacturing defect and not due to wear or misuse. the failure of this component significantly compromises driver and occupant safety. *jb

My power steering began to fail last february and it fails whenever i am going at speeds below 20mph or if i am off of the gas pedal. i have talked to several jeep owners (2000 or 1999 models) that are experiencing the same problem. when i call daimler chrysler they contend that they are unaware of any problem with the power steering. i don't believe it. i have also had problems with the seat heaters. i have had to replace the drivers side twice and now the rarely used passenger side heater is failing. they told me during my second repair that the 1999 jeeps have a very fragile part and that they have replaced them with a better part for the 2000 jeeps. i had to pay repair costs on my second repair because my warranty had expired and i'm afraid that they may not even cover this new problem even though they admitted that the part is faulty and very fragile.*ak
