I also have the death wobble. i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. i have not installed a lift kit or oversized tires. i have a 2-wheel drive so not taken off-road. my mechanic has replaced the steering are and says there is no equipment problem. i have had my tires rotated, balanced, and aligned. they say there is no tire or alignment issue. the death wobble still exists. it appears my only alternative is to get rid of my jeep. that is a problem. i will fight, i'm not happy! what can i do? what are my rights at this point? please help? it happens on a regular basis, and i can demonstrate almost at will. if others are having this same issue, deaths will occur! *tr

99 jeep grand cherokee with engine problems customer states that the rpm's would immediately go up to the 200 or sometimes higher as soon as he starts up the car and also accelerate when the brakes are applied**cc the consumer stated various parts were replaced, however the problem returned. the consumers wife was driving, when all of a sudden the vehicle started to accelerate on its own, she applied the brakes as hard as she could, however the vehicle continued to proceed in a forward motion. the only solution was to place the vehicle into park. after placing the vehicle in park, the consumers wife placed it in drive again and immediately it started to accelerate uncontrollably. applying the brakes with full force did not solve the problem. when aaa arrived and started the vehicle, nothing happened. the sudden acceleration happened again while the consumers daughter was driving. during one of the sudden acceleration incidents, the consumers wife was injured. the right front wheel speed sensor was replaced. the coolant radiator fan relay and water pump were replaced. the air bag light was on, the transmission seal was leaking. the fuel pump was replaced. the right and left hub bearing were replaced. *jb

When coming to a stop, or slowing moving, and sometimes accellerating, small clunks are heard & felt from the rear of vehicle. sometimes these clunks feel like someone has hit your vehicle from behind, thus forcing your vehicle forward with a hard jerk. the dealership has reprogrammed the system, but it did not totally solve the clunking problems but feels like the shifting has changed. i have tried to reproduce the problem for them a couple times, but am usually unable to make it slam. i have told them that other people i have talked with have had this same problem, and it was due to a faulty drive shaft and slip-yoke, which was fixed in the 2000 models.

It appears that something in the front end is out of alignment or out of balance, and that has been causing front end components to wear out. the symptoms are steering wheel shaking and rotors that wear/wap at an abnormally high rate, causing brake pulsation. to date the steering column/linkages have been worked on 4 times. the front and rear brakes have been serviced/replaced 8 times. at one point the steering linkages was so loose that any change in the road surface caused a change in vehicle direction.*ak

After almost twice a month trips to the service provider and being told that my allignment was a result of my driving there was a recall posted for a part that caused allignment problems. although this was eventually fixed, my tires suffered and had to be replaced very prematurely. after contacting goodyear and chrysler i was told the tires were my responsibility and that the bad part would not have caused significant tire damage. i still feel that although the problem is better it is still apparent and i would like it to be resolved. after owning this car for less than 2 years the myriad of major component failures is rather frustrating especially when the jeep service providers won't acknowledge the problem and seem to not care about their customers who pay their salaries. this is an embarressment to the american car industry. *ak

Our 99 jeep grand cherokee is 4 months old and is nothing but trouble; the transfer case was replaced, the car makes a grinding noise at highway speeds and the dealer thought the replacement of the transfer case would solve the problem. it didn't however. furthermore the gear oil had to be replaced because the car would buck and even stall sometimes when i would make tight turn. furthermore the transmission is sometimes clunking. our power window needs a new motor. the car keeps on pulling to the right and that still hasn't been fixed. we have been very disappointed and wish the lemon law would be a little bit more protective of consumers than car dealers and manufacturers. *ak

Hello nhtsa, i am writing to file a complaint about my 1999 jeep grand cherokee. immediately following the purchase (not lease) of my gc, my wife and i noticed a strong jolt in the rear end of the vehicle whenever we came to a stop. i brought our vehicle back to our dealership 2 times for inspection but each time my dealer, manhattan jeep (a 5-star dealer in new york city) told us that all of the new '99s do that and that all the ones with the v8 do that. that wasn't what i wanted to hear but i thought that it might go away after a few more miles. i now have over 7,000 miles on my vehicle and the problem is getting worse. i have written to customer relations at daimlerchrysler to report my problem. i do have a case number which they've assigned to me. i was told by customer relations that i should try another dealer. since i was getting no satisfaction from customer relations, i called the sales department at difeo chrysler in jersey city, new jersey and spoke to a sales representative. i posed as a potential buyer of a 2000 grand cherokee. i asked about the quality problems that the 1999 model had and i was told by the salesperson that all of the 1999s produced before september 1999 had a defective driveshaft and that they should be replaced. he assured me that the defects had been corrected for the 2000 model year. so now i have customer service denying the problem while the sales department was very well aware of the problem. i now scheduled a service appointment at bayside chrysler-plymouth-jeep in bayside, new york. the service department at bayside immediately knew what the problem was and i was told that i needed a new driveshaft #52099487ac. with such a large number of vechcles affected, shouldn't jeep have notivied owners and not just dealers about the defect? *ak
