Tl. the contact owns a 200 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the contact stated while driving 25 mph the air bag light comes on very randomly. this occurs when the steering wheel is turned to the left the air bag light will come on. this can cause the air bag not to deploy during a crash. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer performed a diagnostic test and the dealer stated the clock spring in the air bag needs to be replaced. the contact has not called the manufacturer. the contact stated this is a safety issue that needs to address by the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 110,000. jo

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee larado. after i hit 100k miles my airbag light continuously chimes. there seems to be a great deal of jeep users with the same issue. this seems to be an issue with the clock spring sensor. what happens if i don't replace or seek repair for this? is there something that gm can do to recall the part? i am out of warranty but this seems to be an issue with more than just my vehicle.

My car has major problems and i can't afford to fix, then i find the problem that i have is due to the automaker's problem because the car is on recalls for the problems i am having. i received no notices on any recall, and when i got on the web-site to check for recalls there are as many as 10 major problems with my car and jeep. some could cause me to crash or even explode while driving. where are my recall notices? *tr

On jan. 10, 2007, i was in a head-on collision and my air bags did not deploy. the whole front end of my jeep was smashed and i have to get a whole new front clip for it. also, the brakes went all the way to the floor and didn't seem to work properly. i am very upset about these issues and would like to know why the air bags would not deploy in this type of collision. *nm

On september 14, 2006, my wife was involved in a serious accident in our jeep grand cherokee resulting in complete loss of the vehicle and non-life-threatening injuries to her. my two children, ages 3 and 4, were in the vehicle, properly restrained in cars eats and incurred no injuries. she was traveling at approximately 40 mph, accelerating from a stop, and hit the rear end of a truck parked in the middle lane of a three lane major road. the impact totaled the vehicle; however, the airbags failed to deploy. the failure of airbags in a head-on impact at 40 mph would seem to be a serious safety concern for the manufacture and perhaps should be investigated to determine if there is a defect in the model or if this was an isolated incident. *jb

My son was driving our 2000 jeep cherokee lareado when he was hit on the passenger side from another vehicle on march 25, 2002 at approx. 1:30 pm. the force of this collision push the car towards the left and the jeep went directly into a cement wall head on. fortunately both the driver and passenger had seat belts on, but neither airbags deployed when the vehicle hit the wall. at the time of impact, my son did hit the windsheild, which cause several facial cuts and could of been avoided had the airbags deployed. this malfunction on my vehicle concerns me not only because he could of been more seriously injured, but others in same situations could substain very serious injuries. nlm

Clock spring assembly is mounted between steering column and steering wheel to provide the electrical connection between the steering column and steering wheel for steering wheel mounted switches and the airbag. took the vehicle to the dealer where purchased to have a scraping noise within the steering column fixed that has existed since the vehicle was purchased new. dealer informed me that the clockspring mechanism needed to be replaced as it was broken. clock spring provides electrical interconnection to the horn (which works fine), the cruise control switches (which work fine), stereo controls (which work fine) and the airbag. three of the four systems worked properly as verified through daily use while driving. the only system that cannot be tested by the driver is the airbag system. the computer for the srs is supposed to monitor all system components for proper operation (including the initiator mechanism for the driver side airbag) and provide a failure notification to the driver via a flashing airbag warning light on the instrument panel. no indication of system failure was ever provided by a flashing warning light. dealer would not provide details as to what portion of the clockspring mechanism failed, but since three of the four systems that are connected via the clockspring worked properly, i have to assume the airbag system connection had failed. it is my opinion that this incident needs further investigation, since the obvious result could be failure of the driver side airbag to deploy as required in a collision. *ak

Approximately 3 weeks ago, my air bag light started coming on and alarming while i was driving. i looked in my owner's manual for information. it said i needed to contact my dealer. i did. the dealer, after a 3 hour inspection, gave me a diagnosis. the driver side air bag needs to be replaced. i asked how much this would cost. they gave me an estimate of approximately $1200 parts and labor. in these economic times, there is no way i can afford that. i asked the mechanic what was the worse case scenario if i did nothing. he said, well, worse case, you are driving down the road and the bag deploys. i asked if they could unplug the system...they told me no. i can not afford to have this feature repaired. but, i also am horrified at the possibility of what could happen if the bag does deploy while i am driving. since this is a safety feature, i would hope that the jeep would stand behind it. a recall would help me greatly. *tr

I purchased a 2000 jeep grand cherokee in 2005 from a used car dealer in albuquerque. at that time no recalls or repairs of any safety related defects were revealed to me. i received a recall in novenber 2006 for cooling fan that i had already had done . daimler/chrysler reimbursed me for some of the repairs done. on 4-17-07 i was north bound on unser approaching ladera, traffic was stopped at the red light. i was traveling the speed limit which was posted at 35 mph. i pressed on the brake pedal to begin slowing down and nothing happened. i then slammed my foot down on the pedal it went to the floor and i rear ended a large pickup at the intersection. the air bags did not deploy, and i did not think the seat belt engaged untill i hit the steering wheel with my sternum. my injuries were minor, and i elt the injuries of the person i hit were also minor. the reason i believed thiswas so because i was knocked unconsicience. after some advice from an attourney i checked online for any safty related recalls on the vehicle. i was not surprised to find many. recall # 200002004 was a seat belt recall, recall # 20060313 was a brake system recall, and recall # 19991202 was a air bag recall. there were many more i am sure you were aware off. my concern was for anybody else thatwas driving one of these vehicles with their families in the car. if my wife or daughter had been in the vehicle with me i am sure their injuries would have been more severe. please look into this vehicle, it was not safe. *ak

I was in a car wreck involving myself and another vehicle, when a third vehicle chose to stop for no apparent reason in an intersection with a green light. we were traveling at maybe 40 miles per hour. i didn't have enough time to react and ran squarely into the back of the truck in front of me. my airbag failed to deploy. i was wearing my seat belt, but not properly, as the shoulder belt wasn't across my chest. however, when the airbag failed to deploy, my head slammed into the steering wheel, causing injury. i have contusions to my upper jaw, the lower half of my nose, my upper lip, and chin. my front teeth were knocked loose, and it is unknown yet if they will be able to recover, a root canal might have to be done. i broke a finger on my left hand,, when it was also slammed into the steering wheel. the police, emt's, and firemen on the scene were all discussing why my airbag failed to deploy. i feel like if it would have inflated i would not have any facial injuries at all. the accident just occurred yesterday, so i have yet to find out if there was any mechanical problems causing this failure. *jb
