The brake lights, turn signal lights, runninng lights keep blowing. at the same time usually the instrument guages also stop working. this is the 5th time we have had to take to be fixed. this is dangerous for us and other vehicles and is going to cause an accident. they could be working fine and go out between 1 place and another. we have been pulled over by police, had people in other vehicles yell at us and almost been hit while turning left due to lack of working signals and brake lights. this re-ocurring problem needs to be addressed properly. *tr

For a 2001 jeep grand cherokee the headlight glass(or plastic) has a gloss on it that dims the headlights and i noticed it on similar models of surrounding years. i purchased several products that were supposed to remove this glaze, without any correction. chrysler says there is nothing that can be done regarding this matter. *tr

EXTERIOR LIGHTING - BACK UP LIGHTS

I have owned a jeep for 3 years. since i have purchased the jeep i have had nothing but problems. the rotors went bad, the steering manifold went bad, the engine went bad, and the motor in the window went bad and broke. now i have replaced my left rear brake light six or seven times. it slowly started to fade out, and now the entire light goes out at night when our lights are turned on and we have to depress the brake. it is also barely noticeable during the day. we thought we had a faulty wire, but when we took it to a shop to have them look at it, they said that in every jeep that has been brought in with the same problem has been the entire light and casing. the bulb gets too hot and warps the casing that holds the light. so the light no longer touches the casing and will no longer work. they told us also that our right rear light is warping also, so both of them need to be replaced. shouldn't this be a recall, since it is happening to so many jeeps. and shouldn't it be a recall since they have a rebuilt one knowing the old ones are no good? i don't like it , i don't like knowing my tail lights are getting so hot that it is melting the casing. could you please let me know about this! *jb

I went to grayson jeep and reported that i had possible safety issues with my vehicle that needed to be addressed. the assistant service manager refused to look at my vehicle and said that i needed an appointment to be seen. however, the dealership has no by appointment only policy. i asked to speak to the service manager. when the service manager came out (j.r. laudermilk), i told him the situation and he responded by saying that they were not going to work on my vehicle so i should leave the property. i asked him on what grounds he refused to work on my vehicle and he responded by saying that they were an independantly owned dealership and he did not have to honor my warranty if he didn't want to. i refused to leave the dealership until i received the owners name and number. after calling the owner to discuss the situation with him he has failed to return my calls. the dealership should be held responsible for failing to respond to a safety related issue without grounds for doing so. no safety defect mentioned. *ak
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - BRAKE LIGHTS
10/20/200750006/21/2004
2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo the brake lights will not come on when the lights are on. i have read many problems with this on both the 2000 and the 2001 models. we checked to make sure the brake lights were working in the daytime, and they were, but we turned the lights on, and they would not. my wife was coming home the other night, and her friend was behind her, and when she applied the brakes, her friend no longer could see the tail lights, and by the time she realized what had happened, she had to slam on brakes to avoid slamming into her. there needs to be a recall on this, as i personally saw over 1000 complaints on this same problem. *jb

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that has 2 potentially dangerous issues with it. due to a manufacturers design flaw, the brake lights malfunction on a regular basis. the light shorts itself out when the headlights are turned on leaving me with no brakes at night. in addition, the door lock actuator in my rear passenger door has broken. since jeep saw fit to only provide a key on the drivers door, this rear door neither locks nor unlocks which would result in a potentially lifethreatening situation if i were involved in a wreck and was unable to exit the vehicle from this door. my cooling fan broke, i replaced with a non-oem model which chewed a hole in my radiator after 100 miles. replaced radiator and fan. radiator broke after a year, re-replaced. after searching online i found that these are fairly common problems and not the result of some action on my part. *tr

Left rear brake light dims and goes out at night when lights are on when i brake or while i am driving with lights on during the day when i brake. i have had the bulb looked at and changed 4 times now. each time i am assured the problem is fixed. i had it changed again 2 weeks ago and i am now experiencing the same problem. *jb

Noticed that the head lights would automatically come on while the car was in park and shut off (headlight switch on auto) the radio controls on the steering wheel would work once in awhile the same for the cruise controls plus the horn does not work at all know did work when i bought it in april 06. i noticed when i played with the tilt steering something is would work some wouldn't. i believe that this might affect the airbag from deploying if in a wreck. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the plastic covering on both headlights became progressively more fogged and discolored to the point of being nearly opaque. this caused the intensity of the headlights to diminish. a service dealer was contacted, and determined nothing could be done to fix the problem. updated 12/1/2006 - *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at night the headlights would not turn off, the battery was disconnected so the headlight would go off. second, the car is not in park light illuminated on the overhead console while driving 45 mph. third, the antilock brakes vibrated while coming to a complete stop at a red light causing the vehicle to accelerate. the vehicle hit another vehicle from behind however no one was injured. a police report was filed at the scene. the vehicle sustained frontal damage and was driven home. the dealership inspected the vehicle but was unable to determine the problems. the manufacturer was alerted. updated 6/23/2006 - *nm

EXTERIOR LIGHTING - TAIL LIGHTS

As has been published in two other postings i see, my left tail light would work well, until i depressed the brakes, then it would go out. i had the bulb replaced 2 or 3 times, then took it to the local dealer today. $190 later, it is supposed to be repaired. we'll see...*jb

There are two problems with this model of jeep grand cherokee laredo. 1) the tail light socket in this model of jeeps constantly burns out. i have replaced this socket numerous times at $8.00 - $10.00 each and have kept all of the burned out sockets as evidence. when the socket burns out, the tail lights stop working once you turn the headlights on. my vehicle has automatic headlights and this truly causes a big problem. i've visited a jeep / chrysler junk yard in my area and checked each tail light socket. each socket is burned out like each of the sockets that i have in my possession. 2) the outside rail that connects the drivers seat to the risers breaks, converting the drivers seat to a rocking chair. i have spoken with the service and parts departments all of the jeep dealers in a 100 mile radius of zip code (20744) and was told that these issues are a common problem with jeeps from 1994 to 2004. i have also spoken with several friends as well as common strangers who i see with this same model jeep and have learned that they also have this problem and the below problems. i believe that this problems are a safety issue and warrant a safety recall. i have received two tickets on two separate occasions for the tail lights alone. i can understand having to change a light bulb every year or two but not the socket that the bulb plugs into. this is a serious defect that chrysler will not address. please help!*jb

2001 jeep grand cherokee= my vehicle should have been covered under the lemon laws of the us. equipment failures: - window regulators- replaced 2 - heated seats- both seats have the wires burnt in two in them; possible fire hazard...not covered in recall of a later year - blend doors broke- had to replace all three motors and doors - left turn signal does not function consistently - door lock system is failing: driver's door has quit locking; has to be done manually; back door behind the driver makes a squawking noise when you lock the doors, tailgate is not locking; alarm will go off if you open the door, but it is not locked. _constant small coolant leak. *tr
