On december 12, 2010 at or around the hour of 9:30 p.m. central time i was involved in a one vehicle roll over accident due to poor road conditions in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. i was the sole individual in the vehicle, and after the accident i found myself in the back seat of the vehicle. i was however buckled in the driver's seat at the start of the accident. i sustained a serious concussion and bruising to my left shoulder and hip from the seat belt, as well as other various injuries. the failure of the seat belt is my concern. the seat belt failed during the accident in some way.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 55 mph, the contact fell asleep at the wheel. the vehicle swerved to the right, crossed over an embankment, drove into a ditch, and struck a tree head on. the vehicle is currently at the shop being repaired. the contact sustained cuts and bruises, but no major injuries. a police report was filed. the air bags failed to deploy. she believes that had the air bags deployed, she would not have been injured. the current and failure mileages were 34,000. update 09/10/08 *cw the seat belt did not restrain the consumer. updated 09/19/08. *jb

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee and recently i had a failure of the seat belt, in that it locked back in the fully retracted position. following is a description of the events, i came to a red light and put the brakes on and the seat belt tightened up against my chest, i then leaned back to relieve the tension and the belt stayed tight against my chest, so i unbuckled the seat belt and left it retract to relieve the tension and the seat belt would not extend after that, putting me in a position of not having a seat belt for protection. i have since had the seat belt replaced and the total cost for repairs was $153.91. i looked to see if there were any recalls for the seat belts and wasn't able to locate anything on the internet for my particular jeep. i don't know if this failure is grounds for a recall but i wanted to make the nhtsa aware of the problem in case there are more incidents of this type. *tr
SEAT BELTS - FRONT

April 21, 2006: i was proceeding on a green left turn arrow and was hit by a ford taurus running stop light. he veered around my front end, tearing off the entire front end and pushing my vehicle into the oncoming lanes. i did not see him coming. i heard the crash, then saw a bright white light. i had lost consciousness and was awakened by a man knocking on my window. the seat belt did not hold. air bag did not deploy. i smashed into the steering wheel causing head and chest trauma, was rushed to the er, spending two days in the hospital with a bruised heart and head lacerations. received full body scans, x-rays, cardiac testing, dr bills ($30,000 and still counting). the lease car is totaled ($14,000 damage). i have constant pain, bruising, headaches, blurred vision, memory loss. i lost my new job as a result. fyi: another jeep cherokee hit the wall on i-95, 5-21-06 and the entire front end was gone. curious if that seat belt held? did not see any airbags deployed. called 911 from my cell to report the crash, 1/2 mile south of atlantic blvd exit (broward county, fl). how many deaths are actually caused by the faulty seat belts? if i had gotten broad sided, i would have gone right through my side window. i complained to my insurance company, the faulty seat belts have resulted in my having a huge claim which is going to cause my future insurance premiums to skyrocket! there must be more than just 3 incidents!! insurance companies, attorneys or owners are not reporting!? *jb

My husband and i were in a 2003 jeep grand cherokee, stopped at a stop light and rear ended by a toyota celica traveling about 40 mph according to the police statement. our jeep then hit the car in front of us (it was a four car chain reaction collision). the drivers and front passenger seats reclined on impact. had our grandson been in his child safety seat, his legs would have been crushed, if not worse. further, the shoulder restraint did not hold on the passenger side, resulting in my head smashing into the dashboard. the air bags did not deploy.*ak
