Drivers seat, left side front and rear brace holding seat to floor cracked apart. i have read that many jeeps from this time period have had this problem of separation due to inferior / thin steal as the bracket. fixing is by welding - does not hold and entire bracket holding the seat to the floor needs to be replaced. *tr

The drivers side seat track has broken on two sides. this is due to a defective part on the seat track where the metal is too thin and has cracked. i have read complaint after complaint online. this needs to be recalled before someone is hurt or killed. i cannot even find one to replace in a salvage yard due to the fact that it is such a common problem, people have bought any one that is available. *tr

The front driver's seat frame weld on the left side had previously broken on me. now the frame weld has broken on the right side of the seat where the base of the seat meets the seat back causing the seat to tilt back and to the right. the whole seat now wobbles. this is a defect in the seat frame design because the breaks are at weld points. the metal is thin at these points.

Accelerating from stop sign to 40 mph, driver's power seat frame broke at a weld point on the front left side. mechanic says it cannot be re-welded. apparently the problem is so prevalent, another seat from a junk yard cannot be found. dealer says seat frames are on back order. i am working with an independent mechanic to find a fix. this is a safety issue because if the seat broke lose, the driver could lose control and anyone in the back seat could be injured.

The driver side electric seat frame broke in 2006 and i was told i could buy a new one but they are so cheaply made i had it repaired by a experienced welder who told me the metal was really thin and cheaply made.it broke again in 2008 in a different location on the same seat and i had it repaired.then it broke again in another location on same seat in 2009.now to start off jan.2012 it broke in 2 places of the seat frame and i dont know what to do.it is a very dangerous seat and i looked on line for a few moments and found thousands of complaints on the same seat from 2004 and down a few years.if something is not done about this someone could be hurt or killed.

While driving my seat suddenly moved forward and to the right. what i found was that the seat bracket broke causing the seat to move. after looking on the internet i found that this is a common problem on this make and model of vehicle. this is a saftey issue as it affects your driving position and in my case broke while i was driving. in addition, as you go around corners you now move/slide in the seat as it is no longer level.

2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo driver's seat mounting bracket broken. seat wobbles terribly. no auto parts store stocks this item and according to burdick chrysler jeep, it is no longer manufactured. according to jeep, there has been no recall, yet according to vlane.com, carsurvey.org, aboutvehicle.com and other such internet sources, this is not an isolated incident. there appears to have been thousands of complaints.

While driving the driver's seat frame bracket snapped and the driver's seat became wobbly as i drove. unable to get a safety inspection sticker in massachusetts until the seat frame is repaired/replaced. this is the first time i have had this problem with 2004 grand cherokee. it has occurred twice with a 2003 grand cherokee i own also. very unsafe to drive in this condition.

Driver side seat broke off at frame. this has happened twice. there does not seem to be a solution by jeep to repair this problem. there are no parts either new or used available to make repairs. was told by the dealer that this is a common problem.

Stopped at a light, when light turned green, accerated, driver seat rocked backward and felt loose. on examination front left bracket on frame had broken. this seems to be a problem this this car, searched on-line to find many people with this happening. had it welded. about 6mos later rear bracket broke in same way. this is very dangerous to the driver, must hold on when seat moves in this way. don't know why jeep will not fix at there cost. they say ther is no recall. there should be one.
06/18/201186000
Drivers side seat mounting bracket broke on entry to vehicle. this caused the seat to rock back and forth while driving especially during turns. took it to dealer and they told me that the seat track was also broken. they have been unable to find a replacement track so far because jeep no longer makes the part. i was told that it can't be welded because of liability issues. they estimate the cost to repair at $300+ if the part can be found. this seems to be a common occurrence lately and i'm forced to pay for a design defect.

I was backing my 2004 jeep grand cherokee out of the driveway when i heard a snap and then the front seat started wobbling back and forth. i pulled back into my driveway and that's when my husband and i noticed the metal that connects the driver's seat had completely snapped. it was a blessing that i was not traveling at a high rate of speed or was far from home, i would hate to think what would have happened had i been on the highway.

2004 grand cherokee laredo. this will be the second time since 2004 replacing the drivers side front seat. it broke in 2008 and again in 2011. the seat starts to rock back and forth like its loose and there is no way to tighten the seat.. so you have to simply live with it, very unsafe in my eyes. if i was in a accident i think the seat would snap off and i would be greatly injured!

The driver's seat of my 2004 jeep grand cherokee has broken for unknown reasons and , without homemade, patchwork bracing, flops back like a recliner. we have attempted to get this repaired both through our local dealer and through chrysler corporation and they claim that they cannot secure the part; we were first told by the dealer we had to prepay for the part, did so, and then they reported back weeks later that they couldn't find the part. unfortunately, our financial situation does not allow us to simply park the vehicle and make due. this is truly an accident waiting to happen and we would appreciate any assistance and support you can offer.

While driving down the road my seat completely broke, throwing me towards the back seat. thank god i was able to control the vehicle and that no one was coming down the other side of the road or it would have been terrible. why would a seat fail like that??? the car is pretty much not drivable now because the seat is completely broken off the base. this is crazy!!!

Seat mount bracket fails under normal use. front deat drivers side mount bracket broke at 65k miles under light use. looking online it seems like this is a normal thing causing a dangerous driving situation of driving in a rocking chair. jeep knows this is an issue yet there is no replacement part for upgrading an obvious inferior structural component that is integral to safe driving.

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 107,000 miles. today, 12/9/2010, the drivers side seat bracket came loose. i believe after searching the internet, that it is a mounting bracket. some other jeep cherokee owners complained of this problem. the seat now rocks when i brake and accelerate. i am concerned that if i get into a collision the seat will not be locked in and the seat belt will not function.

2004 jeep grand cherokee e front driver's seat broken changed it once with the dealership but it broke again from reading online comments from other jeep owners this is an on going problem with the frame or seat bracket since i changed the frame it broke within 6 months of repairing it average cost for new seat frame is about 600 dollars at dealership and it's not fair to have jeep owners pay over and over again to fix a problem with their jeep when it's jeeps fault

Drivers seat rocks broken brackets that hold the seat to the car. i have seen thousends of failures of these brackest reported on line. the fix is a new $1000 seat which often gets overlooked and people are welding (that's what we plan to do) a bracket which may create additional safty issues.

I have a 2004 grand cherokee laredo. today while getting into my jeep, my drivers seat frame broke. loose in the front left corner. now my driver seat rocks when i apply the brake or give gas. wow, thank the lord i was not driving when this happened. i have contacted chrysler about this to see if they will assist with repair even though i have 70,000 miles of use. after doing some research, it appears this is a known issue yet no recalls are performed. it's going to cost me roughly $700.00 to get this fixed. below is a link i found with a lot of complaints around this issue. http://vlane.com/poll/30/2001-jeep-grand-cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-jeep. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) my driver seat track broke for my 2004 jeep grand cherokee on the right side next to the driver side door. it snapped in half and while researching on the web i found a website that everyone else is voicing there concern. my seat is swaying side to side and when i am driving my seat leans back far. when calling the dealership they said that this is not a known issue and that it will cost me between 600-800 to fix. this is upsetting when i can weld it together, but when i get in a accident will that hold? it is a terrible product and the metal should have been stronger and thicker.  2004 jeep grand cherokee. 76,000 miles. purchased new, i am the only owner. while turning into work, the driver seat bracket (the bracket that connects the seat to the floor) broke in the front left (if looking forward). now the seat sways and all of the weight is stressed on just one corner of the bracket. according to online reports, this costs up to $1000 to get fixed at a dealer. other reports of the bracket breaking while people accelerating and falling into the back seat. *tr

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee that has the heated seat issue, recall j14 and called the dealership 3 weeks ago without a response. they set up an appointment for me to go in jan. 7th to get it fixed and when i went in they never even had the parts to fix it. so they got my information and said they would call me with an eta and it has been over a week now without any contact from them. when i called today i gave them my information again and they told me only 300 parts were being shipped to the whole state on monday and that i may or may not get it done even after that. to me, having heated seats that may explode and cause fires is a pretty big safety issue that should not take over a month (when all said and done) to fix especially living in a cold state like colorado where these seats are needed. by scheduling an appointment to fix it, then not having the parts to do it, then never calling me back to set up a new time that is completely unacceptable and well outside of a reasonable time for something as serious as this. *tr

Driver's side seat bracket has broken. i have welded once and it has broken again. i am not a large man (about 185lbs) and feel this should not have happened under normal use. many jeep owners have complaints on this. *tr

Driver's side seat track suffered material fatigue fracture. seat frame is a stamped metal frame. the crack happened on the front left leg that attaches the seat to the floorboard. the seat track is stamped by a chrysler directed supplier and shipped to jci for assembly. suggest chrysler to investigate seat movement (causing fatigue in the bend), material thickness and the possibility of adding a gusset (or brace) across the bottom of this bend in the track. this happened on my personal vehicle. i noticed some movement in the seat but i thought it was coming from the recline function. i was backing down a hill when it snapped causing me (the driver) to suddenly tilt backward. i was startled and the truck bumped into the mailbox at the end of the driveway causing a damaged bumper. *tr

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee and my drivers seat started leaning about a year ago then this year is started squeaking when i sat in it, but never thought anything of it since i have 120,000 miles. then all of a sudden as i am driving at 65 mph the seat makes a loud pop noise and i almost wound up in the back seat. i stopped the car and looked under the seat to find the frame cracked. i got home took the seat apart and found it had cracked on all the weld joints and where the bolts where that help it to the metal frame. i searched online only to find out that this is a very common problem and 100's of people are having the same issue. this is very dangerous and could cause a tragic accident. i had the seat welded by a friend since you cannot buy the parts to repair. after 3 weeks now my steel frame on the seat has cracked. these seats are death tramps and chrysler should have to fix them. very dangerous, do people have to die in order for this to be rectified? *tr

The headrests in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee overland do not provide protection from whiplash. as i sit in the seat, the headrest is at least 8-12 inches from my head. if i were hit from behind, my neck would break before my head would come into contact with the head rest. this is contrary to the 2005 and newer jeeps in which the headrest is directly behind the head (about and inch or two). the headrests should be modified to provide protection from whiplash. *tr

Driver's side seat bracket broken on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. after researching on the internet, it seems that it is a common problem with grand cherokees. there is a steel tube that goes from side to side that is entirely too thin and it shears off at the bracket. it was not involved in any accident, it just breaks from normal use, which for a seat bracket, should not happen. i fixed it once last summer and now another part is broken. the seat is now basically a rocking chair and if i were to get in a crash, there is no doubt in my mind that the bracket would fail further and possibly cause serious injury. *tr
