2005 jeep grand cherokee - rear middle seat belt locked up! i put the rear seat down to move stuff, went to put seat back into regular up right position and the middle seat belt is locked and wont release. i have read that this is a common problem with no fix. in my opinion this is a safety item that the manufacture needs to look into via recall or fix! *tr

The rear center seat belt is stuck in the lock position after laying the back seat down to haul cargo. i have read several forums regarding this problem and it seems to happen a lot. no solution yet save taking it to the dealer for them to fix and me to have to pay for. not a good option in my book.

Tl* - the contact stated after purchasing a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that she discovered that the seat belt straps did not have adequate length to securely lock into the buckle assembly for large occupants. the dealership provided free seat belt extenders but she still feels that seat belt extenders won't keep her safe in an event of an accident. contact can provide pictures of seat belts if needed.

Just purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. i noticed when i test drove several and ended up ordering from the factory that the front seat belts are too short. while i can get the belt to buckle, i am unable to have much forward motion such as if i'm reaching for something. i am not that big so seat belt extenders should not be warranted. never had this problem in any other vehicle, incliuding 2001 grand cherokee i traded. if i am carrying a passenger that is larger than me, there is bo way that they will be able to fasten the belt. obviously, this could end up being a safety issue.*ak

I have not purchased the vehicle. the 2005 jeep grand cherolee has significantly shortened the front seat belts, to the point where a larger individual would be totally unable to buckle the belt, even with the seat all the way back. i do not have this problem with my 1999 grand cherokee, or any other vehicle i have ever owned or rented. the significantly shorter seat belt will cause people not to buckle up, and is a safety hazard for any driver.*ak
