2005 jeep cherokee limited. there has been an issue for years regarding the plastic door panels interior of the car. with all 4 doors cracked and 1 ( drivers door) will not open from the inside. this is a life safety to all occupants in this car. with a crash or fire to happen and you cant get out of a door due to poor design of the door by the manufacture. theses door panels start out with small hair cracks and one time of opening the door you have cracked all the plastic and not able to open up the door. i feel that jeep needs to stand up and correct this issue on a recall. after this happening you can take it in and they will put the new design that doesn't have this poor design for just over 800 dollars a door. so with this manufacture making a change to the panel, says they knew it was a poor design. this is happening to my understanding jeeps of 2005- to around 2010. i have paid close attention to the same year that i own and 90% of the time you see the cracks at the handles inside. please lets figure something out before people lose there kids life or there own life. *tr

This is about my 4 door handles in my jeep they have all cracked. one on the passenger front side is almost not usuable. my warranty does not cover it, i tried to call multiple chrysler places, they can't help me. my dealership has quoated me over $2500. i just don't have that kind of money to fix doors that i have not damaged. there plastic which does not help. i've gone on several websites and i have found so many complaints with the same problem as myself. i find that this is obvisously a jeep problem. i feel they should be fixed or that jeep should issue a recall. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee... appx 2-3 yrs ago, driver side door handle separated from door panel. finally got dealer to fix under warranty. appx 3-6 mos ago, same thing happened to other 3 doors -- called chrysler customer care and told because of mileage (appx 80k) and age of vehicle... no extended warranty was forthcoming... dealer estimates $600-$900 per door. safety issue... doors can not be opened except from the outside. in event of accident, rear occupants would be unable to open doors and escape vehicle in timely manner. *tr

I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee and all of my door handles are broken and/or missing. this causes massive concern for the safety of any passengers in my car. you cannot operate the doors from the inside and if we get into a wreck, they would be unable to get out of the vehicle. i have researched this problem online and it is ridiculous that the parts are so cheap and jeep will not do a recall to fix the problem. most consumers do not have $2000.00 to have the doors repaired with the same cheap plastic to end up in the same situation again. please jeep, do something about this problem asap!!!!!!!!

2005 grand charokee larado the door handles are made of a defective plastic and brakes into several pieces living the door handle unable to open the doors from inside. for people who have children this is a safety issue because if you are in a wreck or in case of a fire the passengers in the back seat is unable to open the door. i believe jeep should recall the door handles at no cost to their customers. i have a 2005 jeep and 3 of the 4 handles have already broken. i have checked into fixing the problem and the cost would be $400.00/door and this is unexceptable do to the fact the cost of vehicles are at a record high you should have have to replace door handles ever 5 years. i have always drove a chev. or ford product and have never expericed such a unexceptable problem. i am starting to doubt my decission on purchasing a jeep product.

***several problems with 2005 jeep cherokee laredo 3.7*** just after purchasing this vehicle in feb 2006 dealer had to replace the air conditioner because it would only work at one speed. after that the transfer case and shifter had to be replaced, next the windshield began to leak molding the carpets, next the steering wheel began making loud clicking noise when making deep turns, vehicle also has severe hesitation when going up hills, now my mechanic says there is transmission fluid all under the vehicle. have also bumped my knee against the key resulting in stalling. worst of all only getting 12-14 mpg!!!!!!have owned jeeps in the past, very unhappy with this one. *jb

I attempted to install a car seat for a 3 year old child in the back seat of my 2005 grand cherokee. however, the head rest interfered with proper installation of the car seat. the head rest would not allow the seat to be tightly mounted to the back seat of the car, but rather held the child seat out by about 2-3 inches. this prevented the seat from being safely installed. it is very difficult to remove the head rest from this vehicle. i had to take it to the dealer to get this done. but when the head rest is removed, there are two prongs that protrude out, making the situation even more dangerous. i called chrysler to get advice on what to do. they said go to the dealer, but the dealer could not solve the problem either. i then called chrysler again, and they insisted this is not a problem. but it is! daimler- chrylser needs to address this problem. it is a design flow. at the very least they should provide a list of infant car seats that can be properly installed -- if any such seats exist. *jb

Passenger opened up their door to exit the vehicle, and a hole cracked in the door panel next to the door handle. there was no abuse to the door, just a weak spot and defect in the manufacturing of the door panel. jeep does not sell just the inside door handle piece, they make you replace the whole door panel which is quite expensive! there are numerous complaints of the same thing happening to other jeep owners with vehicles of the same year. this is a safety issue if you cannot open a door in case of an accident or emergency!

All four of my door handles in my 2005 jeep grand cherokee developed cracks in them between 2011-2012. the back left passenger has completely broken out and my son is no longer able to exit my jeep from that door. the driver's side door handle is the next to go. this will leave me unable to exit my jeep.this is a vehicle safety issue that i am very concerned about. i spoke to service advisor at airpark chrysler/jeep that said he had never heard/seen that before and there was nothing he could do to help me.i have researched on the internet for recalls and it appears that jeep is not willing to recall this major vehicle safety issue with hundreds of complaints about the same defective plastic door handles. *tr

With the first door handle that busted, i thought i might have used too much power but as they all shattered i realized that the interior door handles are made with bad material that is brittle and can not tolerate normal wear and tear. clearly a safety hazard to be riding a vehicule, whether as the driver or passenger, and if an emergency calls for you to abandon it, as you pull the handle to open your door the handle brakes in your hand and leaves you trapped in. *tr

Interior passenger door handle/panel is totally broken out. tried several different methods of saving it from doing so, but to no avail, it is totally gone. have read several items via the internet for about a year not stating that this is a known problem by jeep drivers, but jeep has offered no assistance on this matter. i feel that this is a huge safety issue, as to once you cannot open the door from the inside, you put yourself at an enormous risk for getting someone stuck inside during a crash.

On all interior door handles, the plastic backing that is recessed or 'cupped' behind the actual silver handles you pull to open the doors has cracked. the back left door cracked to a degree where the handle seperated from the opening cable, so the door can not be opened from the inside. the driver door is close. all handles show the same sign of cracking though. if there was an accident, my children in the back would have a hard time getting out.

The interior door handles on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee are all broken. two of them are inoperable. the cheap material used by the manufacturer should be recalled as it cracks very easily. once the inside handle is broken the door can not be opened from the inside. this is a safety concern in case of a fire or accident. the dealer says the whole door panel would have to be replaced and not just the handle, as they are attached together. the cost of each panel is approximaetly $700 each.

Noticed in 2010 that small piece of plastic was missing behind one door handle. this is a lightly used one person commuter vehicle. then in december 2011 all four door handles began to fail. each has missing pieces of plastic behind each handle that compromise their use. took vehicle to dealership where it was purchased new and serviced since 2006. was advised it would be $750 per door to fix as the door handles are integrated into the plastic door panel. complete failure of all four handles is imminent. we are very concerned for our safety. a brief search of the internet shows that this manufacture defect is widespread in this make and model. it is clear that both the material and design used is defective. replacement with om parts will not fix, as the problems is with the design and material. please help us get this issue fixed before someone is killed. it is a forseable consequence of this manufacture defect that death could result. if a consumer is involved in a car accident, and the handles fail, the consumer would be unable to get out of the car. in the event of a fire or water crash, the death of the consumer would be directly attributable to manufacture negligence.

3 of 4 interior door handles and panel to which they attach appear to be broken (cracked) and one is non functioning. after a google search of jeep interior door handle, i have found hundreds of complaints. repair costs exceed $2000 dollars from the dealer. although the aesthetics of this remains annoying to owners, the real problem lies in the fact that door(s) are inoperable from the inside and could potentially trap people in accidents.

2 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: front passenger door totally inoperable. driver door supporting interior is breaking and back doors cracking and breaking without anyone using them, my vehicle is in impecable condition. ***this is a dangerous safety issue if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive; hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle in an emmergency situation.

The plastic part of the inside door panel which holds the door handle broke so i am unable to open the door from the front driver's side. i can't get out of the car without climbing over to the passengar side of the car. i believe this is a safety issue. this appears to be a common problem with this particular model/year. the passenger side is cracked as well so i expect this will break over time.

The driver side interior door handle began to crack, followed by the other three interior door handles. i can barely open any of the doors from the inside at this point. i fear that very soon, i won't be able to open any of the doors from the inside at all rendering my vehicle useless. this is obviously a factory defect that i could not have caused by myself. the door handles on my vehicle should not be falling apart after only six years. the poor quality of the plastic used to make the door panels is clearly the problem. i cannot afford to replace all four door panels on my own, nor do i feel that i should take full responsibility for cost. i am extremely frustrated and upset by the disappointing quality of the vehicle and the current state of the economy is not making things easier for me.

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the interior door handles started breaking from the plastic they are attached to about a year ago.the drivers door is completely broken i do not have any warranty left on the car and looked into fixing and found out that one door alone the part would be $660 before labor. i have all four doors that need to be fixed. i called to speak to the dealership and told them that this was a serious problem and believe the doors are made of cheap or defective parts and was told they could not help me because of the miles on my car. they told me they would not do anything about helping on the costs, i have heard that other folks have been helped with 50% of the costs. i know that there is a serious problem because i also have a vw and volvo and they are near the same age and do not have anything wrong with them. the safety issue is that the only way someone can get out of the car is to put the window down to open from the outside. they are electric windows so if in an accident it could become tradjic. i believe that this should be a recall item for any 2005 vehicle no matter how many miles on the car. i have seen sooo many complaints on the 2005 model having this issue. it is a serious problem that should be required to be fixed by the company. the car has had normal wear and tear. thankyou

The jeep grand cherokee interior door panels are defective . the handles are all plastic and they all break off from the door panel. jeep has refused to do anything about it. they have a waiting list for new door panels and they will not produce the part to fix this safety issue. this is a very unsafe problem that could cost a life if the person reaches for the handle to get out of the car and cannot. they need to make this a recall and issue parts to replace this for free for owners of the jeeps.

All four inside door handles have crumbled and fallen completly apart, a potential for a significant safety issue may occur. based on my reasearch this issue seems to be very coomon for 2005-2007 jeeps and the cost to fix the problem is excessive, a national recall should be issued.

Interior door handles cracked, loose, and about ready to break off. if an accident/fire were to occur, it would leave interior occupants trapped inside the vehicle if you pull on the handles too hard. this is definitely a case of poor construction/design. needs to be addressed.

Vehicle stalls at random, and looses power steering capability, can cause a crash on windy roads. very scary. has been to dealer multiple times in arizona and has not been able to fix. they tried to fix it under warranty and under extended warranty from chrysler. also when vehicle stalls looses power, can't immediately open windows or doors. doors on this vehicle also interior handles all were broken prematurely right after warranty expired at 48000 miles. this second problem is so common that dealer doesn't have part in stock, factory back order and jeep won't fix it. this second problem is a safety issue as well because can't open door, with handle from inside in az 110 f can be deadly, or during a crash or fire

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. i just hit 50,000 miles, and it is sporadic at best that i have passengers in the rear. i have kept my vehicle in immaculate condition. however, both of my rear door handles are completely broken. i have to open the doors from the outside. my front two door handles are cracked with pieces missing but still operational for the moment, but i'm sure it's only a matter of time. if i were in an accident and rendered unconscious my rear passengers have no way of exiting the vehicle in case of fire or other event would require a quick exit. this is absolutely a safety hazard due to a manufacturer defect.

The front passenger door handle on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee has broken off and is unusable. , the plastic supporting the interior door handle has broken, leaving the handle unmounted and useless the other three are cracking and will be breaking off soon. the handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. the manufacturer has been unwilling to accept responsibility for the issue. they declined my claim with my 100,000 mile 7 year maximum care upgrade extended warranty. at first they offered (then retracted) a

Last year i began noticing that plastic pieces were falling from the back cover of the interior door handles. i took the vehicle to the dealer to see if there was a recall on these vehicles since i consider that this was a safety issue. the handles are completely loose and i have to stick out my arm to open the doors from the outside. i don't even want to imagine what could happen if in an accident. the cost of repairing this is approximately $2,000 since it is necessary to purchase the interior door panel.

The casings behind the inside door latch began to gradually deteriorate until all four door casings cracked which resulted in difficulty exiting the vehicle. three of the four handles have broken off completely, rendering the doors useless.
10/29/2010140000
The inside plastic that mounts the door handles continues to crack and break away leaving the handles unmounted. this must be a safety hazard because any point in time the handles could stop functioning leaving the driver and passengers trapped inside. once this plastic broke away it was almost impossible to open the door from the inside.

Have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the interior door panels are all cracked and handles to open the doors are beginning to break. this car is used primarily as a single passenger car, back doors are rarely used yet still are breaking. . if there is ever an accident and those doors are the only escape route, they may render the passengers trapped in the car.

Within weeks of the purchase of this vehicle on 1/06, paint on bumper began to have small chip marks. as of 7/06 i have noticed more chip marks and also a rub mark where the paint has just rubbed off easily, with no structure damage to the bumper. also paint nubs ( bubbling) around door handles and paint is coming off of driver door handle at creases. it seems as if paint is poorly applied. *nm

All of the inside door handle pockets have fallen apart, the plastic used was bad and this should be a recall due to the safety issue. i could see if one went bad, but all four, this is a major problem. from what i have seen online, it seems all types of this vehicle and year seem to have the problem. *tr

The plastic wells behind all four interior door handles have broken, leaving a gaping hole ringed by sharp spikes of plastic shards. this occurred prior to my purchasing the vehicle on the date indicated as the date of the incident. this is a widely reported issue. the next stage of the failure is that the interior door handles will eventually break out of the door and come off into the door operator's hand, requiring the door to be opened from the outside. once this occurs, the failure will become a significant safety risk as passengers will be unable to open the door from the inside, effectively trapping them inside in the event of a severe accident or fire. jeep has fielded thousands of complaints about this particular failure and numerous videos made by unhappy consumers have been posted to youtube and other similar sites. jeep currently charges $500-$700 to replace the entire door panels while a niche market has been created by individuals selling injection molded replacement parts that jeep does not sell. this is an unacceptable solution and jeep needs to issue a recall. it becomes a minor safety issue the moment our fingers come into close proximity of the sharp plastic shards surrounding the opening, and it becomes a major safety issue the moment we and our passengers are no longer able to open a door from inside the vehicle. please make this happen. *tr

My interior driver door handle started cracking, then eventually broke and is useless. at first i thought it might have been something i did until the back passenger on the driver door did the same thing. i rarely have passengers in the back so i know its not just wear; instead, just crappy quality. when you're a die-hard jeep person you don't want to admit (especially to yourself) they would've used poor quality. unfortunately, after reading about everybody else that this has happened to, its obvious it is infact just poor quality. *tr

Interior door handles are made with material that do not support the normal wear and tear. clearly a safety hazard to be riding a vehicule, whether as the driver or passenger, and if an emergency calls for you to abandon it, as you pull the handle to open your door the handle brakes in your hand and cannot open the door. in the event of an emergency, we are talking, not about minutes, but seconds to react and move away from danger. failure to open, could represent the difference between minutes and seconds that could prevent major injury if not death in case of an accident. *tr

Front driver-passenger side door panels. i recently discovered that my front driver and passenger door panels have cracked around the interior door handle. the cracks have progressed to the point where the door handles dislodged from the panel from repeated use. the cost of each panel is $770.00, excluding labor. the dealer where purchased stated there is nothing we can do about it. what's disconcerting is that the back of panel shows reinforcement (thicker plastic) for the window buttons but the material is paper-thin for the door handle. once the door handle falls off, the only way to open the door is to roll down the window and push the exterior button. i have filed a complaint with chrysler. *tr

From the many forums i have researched, this is not the first complaint about faulty door handles in the 2005 jeep grand cherokee. all four of mine have cracked and large chunks of the inside of the cup have fallen off into the door panel. one of the doors in just about inoperable because of the location of the crack and i know its only a matter of time before the rest of them follow. as a mother of 2 children, it scares me to think that they could be stuck inside of a vehicle that could have been in an accident. to me, there is no excuse for the company to not issue a recall on the parts, as they will sooner or later be looking down the line of a huge class action law suit for someone losing a passenger or their own life due to being unable to open their door. imagine a car rolling over and catching fire. as quickly as that could go up in flames in only a matter of seconds, what counts are the moments that person is fighting with getting a door open, or in a vehicle without having to fight and saving a life or 5, as this is a 5 passenger car. i would strongly suggest that this be seriously considered and pressure be applied to the manufacturers of jeep to issue a recall for all vehicles with that type of door handle. *tr

Brand new 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo, right front passenger door was being opened, a gust of wind caught the door and hyper-extended it causing it to be misalinged. the next time the door was opened, the front lip of the door caught on the rear of the right front fender and caused a dent in the fender approximately 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. to properly fix damage, right front fender was replaced and painted, right front door was repaired and repainted, hood was repainted to blend with new paint on fender and door. total cost of repairs was approximately $1,300. important to note, no other damage to any other vehicles, property or people was caused by this gust of wind. it happened in a grocery store parking lot and there were lots of other people, cars and property around. nothing else was damaged and the gust of wind seemed very minor. in 30+ years of driving i have never experienced damage to a door due to a wind gust nor have i ever heard from anyone i know of receiving damage to a door due to a wind gust. this appears to me to be a door hinge design flaw. *nm

Car purchased 6/20/05 with 0 miles. car taken to repair 7/11/05 with 450 miles. some where on the residential streets a pebble went into the car and damaged the air compressor. freon has been leaking since the impact. the service dept can not pin point just how long the freon has been leaking but all i know is that i am 6 months pregnant and have 2 other little girls that have been inhailing this freon. the car damage is not covered under waranty since this is a road hazard. however, the car is designed to drive through mountains and rocky roads. there is a designer fault since the new cars do not have a protection grid /net to prevent debris from doing such damage. the older models do have this. when i asked the service dept of prevention devise they only stated that the car was designed this way and that i am not the only person with this simular problem with this new jeep laredo 2005.

Water pours in through the a pillars and where the garage opener is. this only happens in the winter months, when the temperature is really cold. this happened 2 or 3 times last winter (2006) and now it has happened 3 times in the last 4 days. the pattern is when the vehicle has snow on roof and it gets really cold then warms up a little the water pours in. the carpet is soaked. i can hear the ice moving around in the a pillars when this happens. the dealer can't simulate this. they put the vehicle in a room and run water over it. i think it has something to do with the water freezing inside and expanding then when it warms up it just pours inside the vehicle. the dealer checked the sunroof and said there was no problem. i think it could be the gaskets for the luggage rack could be cracked or loose, thus water getting in. i can't explain why it doesn't do it when it just rains. *tr
