VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Exact same scenario.... traveling down the road, stopped at a light and car went into limp mode with the esp mode disabled lit up on the dash. car was idling at just under 2k rpm and would not accelerate. car normally idles at just under 1k rpm. with my foot on the brake the car wanted to drive forward, light turned green and let off the brake, i was doing 20mph without my foot on the gas. i pulled over and shut the car off, restarted and ran fine for a day. next day i broke down 5 times coming home from work. car would run fine and all of a sudden i would feel a power surge in acceleration and i knew it was coming, next stop light car would start to idle funny and light turns green, no power. no matter how hard i smashed the gas pedal, rpms would not move from just under 2k. i shut the car off, restarted and took off like normal. im going to the dealer tomorrow to have it checked out and im taking statements from this page to show the dealer that there are many people having this problem and cannot fix it.. i am positive jeep knows about this problems and will not admit to it. hey if we have enough people can any say class action law suit???? oh yeah remember i said i have video of this??? because everyone said dealer could not replicate the problem or figure it out? i also have a 15,000$ paper weight in my driveway that's worth no more than 400$ at the local scrap yard. i've had to many problems with this jeep and this is the last straw. jeeps are junk, and remember its a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand. yeah they are right on that, i don't think anyone understands!!! i also have recorded video of this if anyone from jeep wants to contact me. *tr

While traveling at highway speed the electronic throttle control system of the vehicle completely failed placing the vehicle into limp mode as indicated by the flashing warning lights and the dashboard display reading esp disabled. the vehicle reduced speed drastically without driver input to do so. were it not for the awareness and capability of the driver following the vehicle, this drastic reduction in speed would have caused a vehicular collision on an incredibly busy main thoroughfare. the affected vehicle suffered a complete loss of throttle control and the engine stayed at approximately 2000 rpm's regardless of driver input to the throttle pedal. maximum speed dropped to no more than 15 mph. stopping the vehicle completely at traffic control devices was difficult due to the constant high rpm the engine was maintaining. the vehicle was taken to the service department of the nearest jeep/chrystler/dodge dealership where it was troubleshot. the electronic throttle body was replaced consequent of the diagnostic check ran on the vehicle. the next 30 miles driven in vehicle were uneventful. the next day the exact same malfuntion occured again, albeit on a not so busy road (thankfully). conversations with the service department reveal no confidence inspiring trouble shooting and/or repair procedure for what is apparently a known problem for many products across the corporate line, spanning many model yeas and generations. basically, it was stated that they are aware of the issue but are unsure of what causes it or how to remedy the malfunction. the vehicle is now parked useless in owners driveway until a solution is found and the vehicle can be safely driven again. *tr

My 2005 jeep grand cherokee (first incident) while turning a corner at approximately 15-20mph revved up, would not shift, and prnd were all lit up on the dash, as well as the engine light came on. after a few starts the engine light has gone off. second incident, from dead stop at a light and accelerating, same issue. engine light goes off again. this has now occured 4 times within 2 months and is a safety hazard considering the fact that your speed drops down out of no where and can potentially cause a serious accidents, causing harm to car a drivers, especially behind you, them not being aware that you are suddenly about to drop speed without brake lights!

Sometimes when i drive the engine feels like it stalls out and my rpm's don't move, all the boxes around prnd light up and the check engine light comes on. i have to pull over and put the car in park or sometimes i have to turn it off. once this is done the car continues to drive like nothing happened but the check engine light will stay on for a day. sometimes it happens on the highway which is very scary to just drop speed down to 40. i have read many blogs about this issue. it happens at random times.

This is a 5.7 hemi engine with 62200 miles. i had driven into a 7-11 parking lot and almost came to a halt deciding whether to park on the right or left. decided to park on the right. car was at around 2 miles per hour, lifted my leg off the accelerator to hit brake, when the car suddenly accelerated, climbed over the sidewalk, sliced and felled a tree and rammed into a laundromat. brake was applied to the point of literally standing on it with whole body weight but car did not respond. finally the car came to a halt although engine was making revving sounds for a few more seconds. luckily nobody was inside the laundromat. air bag did not deploy even though the front was badly damaged. police report was filed. cop was also surprised air bag did not deploy for this hard a crash. the car has been owned by me since new for 7 years and this has never happened. insurance sent a special technician to check, but nothing could be found. car is more than likely totalled at this point. please do something about this, someone can get badly injured for life, or deaths can occur.

In my 2005 jeep grand cherokee, while traveling on a congested road, approx. 25 mph, i took my foot off the gas to slow down. all of a sudden, the vehicle accelerated on its own. luckily, foot was on the brake hard. i attempted to tap gas pedal with other foot several times while trying to fight through traffic without crashing. i attempted to ease up on brake pedal while trying to pull car over, tapping on cruise control button, making sure that was off. in a state of shock, i actually turned the ignition key off, but the vehicle remained going. soon after, i was able to reach the side of the road with the vehicle still wanting to accelerate and foot still on brake. this terrorizing episode lasted for under a minute before it ended as suddenly as it started. due to the shock, i didn't realize i should have put the car in neutral. after a few minutes, i drove the car home very slow and cautiously, still shaking. i did not notice gauges on dashboard at time of the incident. the next morning, the car was towed to dealership. diagnostic testing, test driving. no codes, no incident replicated. throttle system checked and cleaned. no diagnosis found, suggest to change floor mats. i have driven vehicle for four years, no complaints. this is the first incident which scared the heck out of me. vehicle has 37,500 miles on it. having to pay for diagnostics and towing, we still do not know if it will happen again. my wife and i are both scared! hopefully, it won;t repeat itself. *tr

On dec. 21, 2008,while driving down ih-35, my 2005 jeep grand cherokee suddenly and uncontrollably started accelerating. i felt the pedal leave my foot, and pin to the floor. i tried tapping it a few times, then applied the brakes with no result. i had to shift into neutral and pull over onto the shoulder, where i watched my rpm gauge pin at 6000 rpm for approx. 30 - 45 seconds. it finally went back to normal as i was bringing it to a stop in order to turn the car off. this is the 3rd and most severe time in 6 months this has happened. *tr

While trying to stop, while my foot was on the brake pedal, the engine started racing and was not able to stop, i ended up hitting the car in front of me, 2 car passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. contacted jeep and car was checked by factory expert at local dealer , nothing defective was found with brakes . this has happened 2 times before this accident. fortunately, i was able to stop. also i had to replace all 4 rotors with less than 18,000 miles, complained to jeep and was told that rotors are normal wear and tear item and how long they last depends on your driving habits. i just heard on tv that there is a recall for brake failure, contacted jeep and was told no, there is no recall at this time. please let me know if there is a recall on 05 jeep grand cherokee for brake failure. eq-10203460-4200. date received 12/12/07 *jb new jersey police report. updated 12/12/07 *tr

I have a 2005 grand cherokee laredo under 3000 miles. my engine light has come on less than 10 times ,and my car has stalled when come to stop light or complete stop about 5 times. i have made 5 trips to the dealer and the first few times they could not find anything wrong with it. then they determined it was related to the remote start which they had installed. i got it back and they said it was fixed and it stalled out when i pulled into my driveway that very day. engine light came on again exactly 1 week later. engine light is still on now. this will be my 7th trip to the dealer for this problem. i would also like to say that i have also hit the key in the ignition twice which made the car shut off and my car has also revved up with the brake on just as the other complaints on this site. i am also only getting 12 miles per gallon!*ak

We have a safety issue with the adjustable gas pedal in our company car a 2005 jeep. the problem is that the pedal adjustment has no indicator that lets you know that the pedal has been moved by another employee. recently we had an event were an employee drove the car a long distance and did not know that the jeep had an adjustable pedal. the employee complained that his foot cramped during the 300 mile trip and he did not know why. he was not aware of the adjustable pedal feature of the jeep since there was no indicator light or gauge to let him know that the pedal had been set for a much shorter person. the employee also complained that during this trip he found himself driving faster than the speed limit and had to use cruise control to maintain his speed...again he was not aware that the pedal had been moved closer to the driver and his normal position of his foot pushed the pedal down more then normal. *nm
