While entering on ramp for highway jeep shuts off... no more control since no power. hit the guard rail. this stalling happen on many occasions while driving or in park. with passengers in vehicle very scary. have spent more than $4000 @ dealer @ & manufacturer involved. with no resolution...but the stress & the dissatisfaction in the american product i'd like to buy that can't be fixed. i'm convinced i'll probably never buy american again. very disappointed on how jeep corporate handled the issue & left me with vehicle with these problems & told me case closed... trade it in.

Exhaust manifolds leak, potentially introducing exhaust gases, including carbon monoxide, into the passenger area. i initially took my vehicle to lithia dodge in santa fe, nm to report an exhaust leak that sounded like it was coming from the passenger side and was to be repaired under warranty. they only repaired the passenger side without apparently performing a leak check. the fix for this is to replace the oem gasket with one that incorporates metal to apparently compensate for the expansion of the dissimilar metals of the head/exhaust manifold. since there is a defect, the gaskets leak, and the uneven expansion causes the bolts/studs to break, exacerbating the problem. after the repair the sound seemed similar but i assumed it must be injector or valve/lifter noise. recently i had my transmission serviced by a local shop and they noted that i had an exhaust leak. again i listened and it sounded like it was coming from passenger side. this time when i took it to the dealer the mechanic performed an inspection and found the driver's side to be leaking. again he attempted to replace the oem gasket with the upgraded gasket, but in the process broke a stud off in the head and was unable to repair without excess expense, now not under warranty, of course. the service manager also told me that the other side was leaking and that they would have to repair it, but the mechanic said that the passenger side was not leaking. it's obvious the manufacturer knows there is a defect, since they issued an upgraded gasket. these vehicles with the 4.7l v8 should be recalled and the proper gasket installed. i have read on various forums online that this has been an issue since the introduction of the 4.7l v8 in chrysler products.

Driving approx 50 mph, the jeep quit, no warning signs, no power steering. momentum got me off the road. dealership wasn't able to fix the problem. this happened in march 2011. sept 2011 i was passing a transit bus on the way to work and as i started to pull back into my own lane the jeep quit again. no warnings, it just quit. i had to coast into the front yard of someones house because i had no steering. i sat for a few minutes, started it up and drove back home. the onboard diagnostics light, esp, bas and traction control lights were on. from that point the jeep was running very badly. dealer had my jeep for 6 days and said it was a map sensor on the manifold. got the jeep back and backing out of my driveway in the middle of the road, it quit. a couple tries and it restarted. i'm very upset that this vehicle has put me in harms way on 3 separate occasions. i couldn't imagine driving on a twisting steep road and having it quit. i'm lucky i wasn't killed the day i was passing the bus. i'm not convinced the map sensor is the problem and i don't trust this vehicle. i drive a lot and transport my kids. we are all in danger in this vehicle. mainly because, it gives you absolutely no warning that it's going to quit, it just shuts down as if i shut the key off. i have only the ignition key on the keyring so i know it has nothing to do with heavy keys pulling on the ignition switch. i am not the only complaint, they are all over the web, it is an issue and someone needs to address it. this vehicle has become dangerous.

While accelerating attempting to merge onto highway vehicle loses all power and transmissions seems to disengage and only coasts. car acts like if i shifted into neutral but gear selected is still drive. check engine light illuminates and engine responds to acceleration but no movement is given by transmission. rpm gauge goes all the way down to idle. had to pull over the side of the road place in park, shut engine off and restart the vehicle then continue. this is a very dangerous and frightening situation, all power is lost and no control of acceleration is given. this is the 5th time in a year time span, this has happened. started at about 50000 miles. this has almost caused rear end collisions as well, please look into this matter. i cannot imagine what other less skilled drivers do especially carrying children or pets very dangerous, needs a recall or sb.

Unintended engine acceleration / surge. on two separate occasions the 5.7 liter hemi engine in a 2006 jeep grand cherokee suddenly surged when stopped at traffic lights. maximum brakes were applied and the transmission was placed in neutral to prevent the jeep from going into traffic. after the transmission was placed in neutral the engine rpm went as high 4500 rpm (normal engine rpm at idle in gear is about 700 rpm). on both occasions the jeep was brought to a jeep dealership to diagnosis the problem. the maintenance technicians were unable to find any fault with the vehicle (no fault codes or any abnormal behavior). this behavior could cause a serious accident the results in serious injuries and or death to individuals involved.

Driving highway speeds of 55 mph on august 1, 2009 and heard a popping noise, thought i had run over something, a few seconds later the entire jeep starting vibrating and awful beating and banging noises and totally lost power. had to coast to stop alongside of road. vehicle towed to mechanic. found valve spring broke and total engine loss in 3.7 l v-6 engine. had to replace engine. chose to replace with jasper engine for warranty. engine replaced and received jeep back on august 20, 2009. on january 31, 2011 leaving driveway of place of employment and jeep starting shuttering as if it was going to stall and stalled out after engine light came on. had towed to mechanic. 17 months into a 36 month warranty with 20,000 miles on this engine, valve spring broke causing entire engine damage. jasper is replacing this engine under warranty. according to jasper, they have replaced three engines in last three months due to valve spring breakage. valve spring has not been updated. afraid this will happen again if chrysler does not update with newer stronger valve spring.

Purchased new jeep grand cherokee in may 2006. the problem started almost immediately and continue. , dealership could not find or fix the problem. the vehicle lost engine power while driving, resulting in no steering or brakes. this happened every few days, without warning, most recently at speed of 50 mph, causing me to have to manually, with much difficulty, steered off road into field to avoid a collision with other vehicles. this was extremely dangerous, i could only imagine if it happened on an expressway during heavy traffic how many people would be killed. the local dealership always stated they could not duplicate problem, and asked me to keep driving until it happened again, then bring the car back in. this could not go on! someone or many people were going to be killed because of this dangerous vehicle, but i have to have something to drive. please help. *ak

I drove through some heavy rain at approximately 3 p.m. on december 24, 2009. my 2006 jeep grand cherokee quit. i had to have it december 28, 2009 i had it towed to an independent shop. over the christmas week end, two mechanics advised the engine had hydrolocked. the shop owner advised that it had hydrolocked. then after filing an insurance claim, he advised it was not watert but he did not know what caused it. i went to the dealership and talked to a service adviser and she advised it had hydrolodged, a common occurrence, covered by insurance. then, after i took it there the insurance adjuster wanted the engine torn down at my expense. it was supposed to take one day and it took four. the mechanic advised it was not water but he did not know what caused it. he advised the service adviser it damaged the starter, the water pump, the first piston, numerous valve springs, and cracked the block. this is an unsafe vehicle. it can not be driven in water. in july and october it stalled in water and started again. this jeep has a mercedes engine and transmission and a european battery. it was not disclosed when i bought it. the battery can not be jumped. i had to have it towed the night the battery quit, from a rural area. it is not a mopar product. i have the original battery. the original parts are at the dealership with the jeep. i complained to the corporate office and they did not care. *tr

While i was sitting at a red light today i was completely stopped with my right foot on the brake. i felt the jeep grand cherokee surge. i looked at the tachometer and the needle shot upwards and i had to really stand on the brake to keep the suv from moving. i slipped the transmission into neutral to eliminate the surge on the brakes and the engine whinnied and then idled down. i immediately made an appointment at my dealership for friday april 20, 2007. third incident. i am well aware of sudden acceleration syndrome where it is believed drivers are stepping on the brake but really applying the gas. i was already sitting still and my foot never moved from any pedal so this theory is eliminated. *ak

2006 jeep grand cherokee 65th anniversary edition: 15 days off the lot when while driving 15-20 mph engine completely died. i could not steer to the side of the road. there were no warning lights or any indication of a problem. dealership diagnosed major internal engine failure and replaced with new engine. about 4 months later rattling sound turned out to be catalytic converter that needs to be replaced. still waiting for the part. suv still does not drive 100%. sometimes when i step on the gas the truck does not respond right away. *jb

My wife and i purchased a 2006 jeep wk 4x4 on feb 20 2006. as soon as we left the dealership with 150 miles on it the air bags malfunctioned and had to be repaired. about 1 week after the repairs they malfunctioned again and where fixed again only to malfunction 2 more times and the dealership said there was no problems and cleared the codes. at the 3000 mile service there was an oil leak on the front crank seal which was replaced. it has also been in the shop 5 times due to an engine malfunction light in which case there was a multiple cylinder misfire, the dealership said there where no problems and cleared the code every time only for it to come back on. i just picked my vehicle up from the dealer again because the crank pulley and dampener where wobbling real bad and the check engine light was on again for the same reason. all repairs where made and after i left the dealership 15 miles down the road the light came back on. the transmission shudders when i'm stopped and shifts real hard. the dealership said its fine and there is now evidence of that. all these incidents are ongoing since the day it was purchased. *jb
