First my rear window light would come on during cold weather and would stay on this happened at 35,000 miles. then my directional stopped working had fixed it had something to do with inside the steering column. this happened at 82,000 miles. then a few weeks later drove myself to the drs when i came out my jeep wouldn't start. all the interior lights, radio, directional's, windows worked but when i turn it on i hear a click then nothing else. car wont turn over at all. i waited about an hour of trying before it decided to work and turn over. i then proceeded to drive 5 min stopped at a gas station for gas, when i shut it off and tryed turning back on same thing happened. i waited about 45 min before it would start back up. then no problems for 5 days. now again its doing the same thing except i left it over night and it still wont start. i called chrysler after looking online and seeing a lot of people with complaints that were the same as mine except these people spent thousands trying to fix and replace everything yet still no luck they continue having this problem. so this is a very well known problem with jeep and even after bringing to jeep dealer and having a diagnostics done with no problems showing up. they don't know whats wrong suggested replacing wires, starter, something in the steering column, and some module. i don't want to dump tons of money in it like everyone else just to have the same problem. chrysler apologized and said there is no recall for my vehicle. i stated it is a known problem and there should be. she then went on to say i should have it towed back to jeep for another diagnostic. it works when it wants to work and has left me and my 4 yr old stranded. it seems like anytime there's a problem with my jeep and everyone else's its always during cold winter months. frustrated and stranded.

I purchased the vehicle at the end of may 2012 engine light was on and had a due bill for work to be done, stalling was 1 of the issues.got it back with no check engine light on,but still stalled whenever hot or cold driving or in park.has been in and out of the shop for almost a year and it still stalls, jeep techs cant figure it out.dies sometimes 3-4 times a day and once in awhile not at all, but on average 3-5 times a week, never throws a code or check engine light just dies like if i turn the key off. i have to stop or pull over put it in park turn the key all the way off and then restart, runs fine till the next stall which might be in a few minutes, hours or the next day!! very frustrated and dont feel safe at all!!about 3000 dollars of work has been done and still stalls. next thing to do jeep tech says replace wiring harness 2000 dollars..havent done that yet hopefully something else can be done!!! pcm and plugs have been replace by jeep techs among other things tried and it still stalls!

Vehicle just randomly stalls, shuts off as if the key was turned off and on quickly. sometimes this happens when driving at highway speeds or when going slow around a turn or making any turns, this is very dangerous because of the loss of power steering and its very difficult to steer when it stalls. this will also happen when idling in park or when sitting at stoplights.

My jeep grand cherokee will stall due to a poorly shielded wiring harness. i'm sure you've seen this complaint before and i'm including a link for you to read through to see how many other hemi owners are having this issue. the temporary fix is to put tin foil around our harnesses???? http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/2007-jeep-grand-cherokee-overland-stalling-problem-1147825/index1.html

09/29/2008 jeep taken to garage for head light failure nothing found. 03/09/2012 to 11/07/2012 all indicator light flash exterior lights flash. been to the dealership three times for numerous days at a time they can not find anything wrong still having this problem. really not good when it is dark out and you don't have headlights. at 15,000 and 35,000 i had to have the shift modular replaced because all the car would basically go in to neutral when being driven. i would have to pull over and turn the car off and restart it. the first time it was at the dealership for three days they could not find a problem and sent it home only to have to return 2 days later with the same problem. as i have found many people on line with these same issues makes you wonder first why these issues can't seem to be fixed, second why there has not been a recall. it is truly a miracle that no one i have heard of has been injured or killed because of these defects. when the jeep is working i love it. if i had a hope and a pray of getting a new vehicle i would trade in my paid off jeep in a heart beat so that i wouldn't have to constantly worry that it stop running or that i will be driving blind in the dark. sadly i didn't even touch on the other electrical issues i.e. window that had to be fixed remote keyless issues it is sad that the company doesn't do anything about these things this will be my last jeep. i feel that these problems are dangerous for me, my family and anyone that is on the road with me and other jeep owner with the same issues.

After being parked the jeep would not start, code displayed in the dash stated transmission over temp, after sitting for about 30 more minutes the jeep started - drove home and it would not start again - took it to a garage and they could not get the problem to replicate after having it for a week. july 5, 2011 - jeep would not start again, transmission over temp code, still intermittent, after 2 weeks the garage replaced the transmission control module, august 6, 2012 - transmission over temp error code, this time it will not start after any pause in driving, had it towed to the dealer and they are saying its the starter (jeep now has about 65,000 miles on it) - also had to replace the right front speed sensor (it is bad and causing the traction control system not to function properly).[additional notes: had to replace the esm at 28596 miles, jeep loss of engine power and all lights lit up on gear shifter, at 27170 miles had to replace both front window regulators]. *tr

I write this only because i just experience my fourth mechanical breakdown in three years. in december 2009, i experienced the first breakdown in what has become a string of malfunctions. the transmission on my 2007 grand cherokee laredo gave out at about 40,000 miles. when trying to start the vehicle, i got a 'transmission overheat' message on the dash display along with the engine malfunction indicator. i took it to the dealership where i purchased it and it took nearly a month for the repair shop to locate, receive and install the necessary parts. apparently supply and demand had something to do with it, indicating to me that this was an issue nationwide. a month later, another malfunction, this time, the electronic shift module (esm) had died. just over a year later, the same component (esm) died again (of course just out of warranty), this time while i was driving along rt. 50 outside of dc. now, less than six months later, with less than 40,000 on the already replaced transmission, my transmission has blown again - same 'transmission overheat' message, same engine malfunction light, same undrivability. clearly from seeing the comments on this forum as well as other reputable sites such as edmunds and consumer reports, the 2007 grand cherokee laredo has a long, long history of mechanical and electronic problems. i have a phone call scheduled with a case worker scheduled for tomorrow, 7/13/2012. they'll either make it right or i'll be taking my story to small claims court. i encourage everyone who's had issues with this model to do the same.

The dashboard lights came on all at once. than was fine continued driving and check engine light came on and tried to make it home. howevr never made it p,r,n,d all lit up and started loosing power. was able to make it to side of road. check engine light code was u0404 and now the gear shift control module needs to be replaced. however after looking over other complaints from jeep owners i see this has been a problem on these vehicles. i think its time for a recall especially that it happens every 30,000 -40,000 miles. unreal at the cost of repair. nothing like a scam. will never own a jeep again..

I was driving approximately 40 mph in the fast lane of a main two-lane residential roadway when the vehicle suddently jerked violently forward throwing me into the steering wheel and then all acceleration and speed stopped. the steering wheel became abnormally stiff and difficult to turn however i was able to guide the completely stalled and deaccelerating vehicle to the slow lane and pull-off on the side of the road (with no side lane) with hazards flashing and traffic passing. this was an inherently dangerous condition as the flow of traffic was going approximately 35 - 40 in the fast lane at which time i completely lost power and had limited steering (more like coasting) ability. i was able to turn the engine completely off and restart, however the next day under similar conditions of normal driving conditions the vehicle jerked and stalled again, and restarted after a complete shutdown. this vehicle on the third day post the first incident failed to restart after driving to a local shopping destination and turning the car off to park. i left the vehicle at the location for approximately 4 to 5 hours and retrieved the vehicle upon which it started with a documented call into road side assistance program from jeep. the next day (monday) i drove to an authorized dealer upon which they stated the failure was the electronic shift module (esm) [(not to be confused with the electronic stability control (esc)] which controls the electronic signals from the computer to the transmission at a personal cost of $820. i believe this represents a known defect as currently 55 out of the 133 complaints listed here are describing a similar series of events and root cause, and would be willing to be involved in a class action law suit against jeep as life, limb and property are at stake.

While driving the vehicle, had a sudden lose of ability to accelerate, no throttle response, no rpms on the tach, and every gear indicator was illuminated as if in all gears at the same time (park, reverse, nuetral, drive). dealership says its part # 52124137ac that needs to be replaced, and is not covered under any power train warranty, at a cost of $817.00. this problem happened 4 times before i was able to get it in to the local dealership, never on the highway, if it had happened on the highway, im sure i would have been taking a chance with my life.

My jeep has experienced three electrical failures which have occurred approximately 6 months apart. for some unknown reason the battery died overnight each time. the second time it happened i purchase a new battery but six months later it drained too. i was able to successfully jump-start the vehicle after each incident. transmission----i haven't been able to down-shift from drive to a lower gear. this problem began at about 46000 miles. i took it to a repair shop where they diagnosed the problem as defective shifter control. before i had it repaired (est. $1000) it began functioning normally, that is, until today. i left a parking lot and merged into traffic. fortunately traffic was light because i couldn't get the jeep to go any faster than 28 mph. it seemed like the transmission was stuck in first. also the engine light came on. this is a very serious situation that should not be ignored by the chrysler corp. or the national highway traffic safety adm..

Stalling issues with 5.7 hemi jeep grand cherokee overland. vehicle stalls at random but at low speeds and coming to a stop. happens approximately 3 to 4 times per month (about once a week). vehicle looses complete power, brakes, steering, etc. huge safety issue. only way to restart is to put in neutral or park. no check engine light but stores p0884 code. dealer can not replicate problem but notices code. dealer does not have a fix or does not know how to fix. vehicle has stalled on railroad tracks, 5pm traffic, and worse possible times and could cause serious injury.

I own a 2007 jeep grand cherokee v6 2wd and other owners across the us (thousands of them) with years ranging 2005-2007 report problems with the electronic shift module. this goes out in the middle of driving (sometimes on the highway) and will cause the vehicle to stall out in the middle of the road without warning. i have had mine replaced twice now and have only owned my jeep for 1 1/2 years (bought it brand new). this happened in march 2009 and again january 2010. *tr

I have submitted a complaint before but the problem continues and has gotten worse. my jeep loses all electrical power and shuts down and restarts itself while driving, occasionally doesn't accelerate past second gear and other times accelerates very slowly, numerous times dealership told me nothing was wrong, finally they replaced clockspring and motherboard but problem began recurring only days later. only now my jeep is additionally at times acting like it wants to shut down but instead is just faltering shaking the whole vehicle violently accompanied by the struggling to accelerate. *tr

Numerous electrical issues. the most dangerous have been the prnd lighting up and vehicle not going over 1st or 2nd gear while driving. this has happened to me 7 times now, 4 of which have tried to be diagnosed by the dealer without success, they just replaced the gear shifter twice. the 3rd time i had taken a photo of this and gave it to the dealer when they told me 'nothing was wrong' according to their diagnostics. photo proved otherwise. also the vehicle has shut itself off twice while i was driving on a busy road. the windows also get stuck and will not work. have to operate one window to make the other one work. the battery failed and 'transmission over temp error happened at the same time. manufacturer's service agent said it was a false readout due to battery failure but they did fix something on the transmission. i am filing for a second lemon law arbitration hearing in florida. it is a very dangerous vehicle with these issues. incident date on this form is only the last date of occurrence since only one option. this has been a problem since first purchasing this 'new' vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer stated that the ignition switch was the cause of the failure. the vehicle was repaired under warranty in 2007. in 2009, when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it would not turn on. in addition, all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated and would not dim. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the battery was low and no other failures could be found. through online research, the contact has found complaints regarding this same issue. the failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 32,000. updated 3/12/09 *cn updated 03/16/09.*jb

My 2007 jeep grand cherokee continues to stall (total loss of all electrical) when driving. generally this happens when i am coasting. i have taken my jeep to the dealership twice after repeatedly having this happen, but the dealership cannot get the problem to duplicate itself. i see now this stalling problem is happening on other model jeeps, something the dealership did not bother to mention. i am very concerned the problem is going to lead to an accident. *tr

In may 2007 we started having problems with the a/c and blower motor on our vehicle. i conducted research and found through tech advisory the blower control module were the problem and were being replaced. i disconnected the blower control module and could see the unit had melted around the wire harness plug. i did exactly as the tech advisory recommended and replaced the blower control module and wire harness plug. less than 70 days the exact same problem has occurred again. i pulled the blower control module out and could see the new module had once again melted around the replaced plug. i called the dealership and was told they would warranty the part and i just needed to bring the original invoice and bad melted blower control module in and they would give me a new one. i did that last night and when i was at the dealership they looked at the melted blower control module and told me because i did not replace the entire wire harness they would not replace the melted module. i inquired as to the cost to replace the entire wire harness as it required pulling out the entire dash to simply unplug the old harness and plug the new one in. i was told 8 hours of labor and cost of parts for the new harness and blower control module which was estimated at $700.00. the parts themselves are less than $200.00. when i replaced the original part i did it exactly as the tech advisory told me so which was dated sometime in may 2007. in addition to the part melting it has sank the top edge of the carpet in the passenger side floor board. i view this as an extreme safety hazard and could actually case a fire in the vehicle. the dealership advised no warranty recalls have been issued for this issue either. i think chrysler should re-examine how many of these blower control modules they have replaced and the risk they are putting the public at by not recalling them. any assistance in this matter would be appreciated. *tr
