 First my rear window light would come on during cold weather and would stay on this happened at 35,000 miles. then my directional stopped working had fixed it had something to do with inside the steering column. this happened at 82,000 miles. then a few weeks later drove myself to the drs when i came out my jeep wouldn't start. all the interior lights,radio,directional's, windows worked but when i turn it on i hear a click then nothing else. car wont turn over at all. i waited about an hour of trying before it decided to work and turn over. i then proceeded to drive 5 min stopped at a gas station for gas, when i shut it off and tryed turning back on same thing happened. i waited about 45 min before it would start back up. then no problems for 5 days. now again its doing the same thing except i left it over night and it still wont start. i called chrysler after looking online and seeing a lot of people with complaints that were the same as mine except these people spent thousands trying to fix and replace everything yet still no luck they continue having this problem. so this is a very well known problem with jeep and even after bringing to jeep dealer and having a diagnostics done with no problems showing up. they don't know whats wrong suggested replacing wires, starter, something in the steering column, and some module. i don't want to dump tons of money in it like everyone else just to have the same problem. chrysler apologized and said there is no recall for my vehicle. i stated it is a known problem and there should be. she then went on to say i should have it towed back to jeep for another diagnostic. it works when it wants to work and has left me and my 4 yr old stranded. it seems like anytime there's a problem with my jeep and everyone else's its always during cold winter months. frustrated and stranded.

 This first occurred @ approx. 48k miles. driving down the road, i accelerate, truck behaved as if it was thrown into neutral. i was able to coast it down the road approx. 1/4 mile and pull off into a parking lot (living in the country, there is no place to safely pull off the road) shut the jeep off, restart and all is good. now at 55k miles, the rear pinion seal was leaking like a waterfall, replaced, all of a sudden the truck starts with this feeling as if it were thrown into neutral, both times it kicked back into drive on its own. now today driving home, it clunked, bucked, all p,r,n,d lights light up at once, then they go out, then they light up, this repeats , i made it home, could not accelerate above 40-45. when is jeep going to recall these, after someone is killed. did i mention i have a 4 year old in the truck every day! i cant drive it at this point, i am petrified, i will not put the child in it. i have to borrow a vehicle until we are able to pull it apart and get the part from the dealer i bought the jeep from 40 miles away! would never ever recommend a jeep to anyone, ever! i have a friend owns the same jeep, same year, even the same color, he has almost 200k on his and just replaced it, he could not accelerate over 25 mph. the shame of it is, i love it and i am going to take a huge financial bath on it, even when its repaired, i cant trust it, its not child safe! also seems very convenient jeep does not transfer warranties! otherwise this would of been covered, the powetrain warranty on these was extended to lifetime, original owner only!

 Driving down the road the car will not go over 45 mph. the only way to quick fix the problem is to turn the car off then back on then it will run normal. also the car has stalled out when i was turning down the road and would not go until i put the car in park then put it back in drive. *tr

 3.0 liter crd has had multiple problems from purchase to include air intake, oil systems, and seals. engine is unreliable and does not seem to last more than 5,000 miles before needing major repairs. based off of my experiences i believe the engine is faulty and can lead to safety issues while driving. in a 3 year period vehicle has been quoted as needing in excess of $20,000 in engine repairs. air intake clogs with oil. oil system leaks from multiple locations to include engine oil cooler, and intake runners. back engine oil seals leak. turbo clogs with engine oil. vehicle has 46,000 miles on it. *tr

 09/29/2008 jeep taken to garage for head light failure nothing found. 03/09/2012 to 11/07/2012 all indicator light flash exterior lights flash. been to the dealership three times for numerous days at a time they can not find anything wrong still having this problem. really not good when it is dark out and you don't have headlights. at 15,000 and 35,000 i had to have the shift modular replaced because all the car would basically go in to neutral when being driven. i would have to pull over and turn the car off and restart it. the first time it was at the dealership for three days they could not find a problem and sent it home only to have to return 2 days later with the same problem. as i have found many people on line with these same issues makes you wonder first why these issues can't seem to be fixed, second why there has not been a recall. it is truly a miracle that no one i have heard of has been injured or killed because of these defects. when the jeep is working i love it. if i had a hope and a pray of getting a new vehicle i would trade in my paid off jeep in a heart beat so that i wouldn't have to constantly worry that it stop running or that i will be driving blind in the dark. sadly i didn't even touch on the other electrical issues i.e. window that had to be fixed remote keyless issues it is sad that the company doesn't do anything about these things this will be my last jeep. i feel that these problems are dangerous for me, my family and anyone that is on the road with me and other jeep owner with the same issues.

 After being parked the jeep would not start, code displayed in the dash stated transmission over temp, after sitting for about 30 more minutes the jeep started - drove home and it would not start again - took it to a garage and they could not get the problem to replicate after having it for a week. july 5, 2011 - jeep would not start again, transmission over temp code, still intermittent, after 2 weeks the garage replaced the transmission control module, august 6, 2012 - transmission over temp error code, this time it will not start after any pause in driving, had it towed to the dealer and they are saying its the starter (jeep now has about 65,000 miles on it) - also had to replace the right front speed sensor (it is bad and causing the traction control system not to function properly).[additional notes: had to replace the esm at 28596 miles, jeep loss of engine power and all lights lit up on gear shifter, at 27170 miles had to replace both front window regulators]. *tr

 I write this only because i just experience my fourth mechanical breakdown in three years. in december 2009, i experienced the first breakdown in what has become a string of malfunctions. the transmission on my 2007 grand cherokee laredo gave out at about 40,000 miles. when trying to start the vehicle, i got a 'transmission overheat' message on the dash display along with the engine malfunction indicator. i took it to the dealership where i purchased it and it took nearly a month for the repair shop to locate, receive and install the necessary parts. apparently supply and demand had something to do with it, indicating to me that this was an issue nationwide. a month later, another malfunction, this time, the electronic shift module (esm) had died. just over a year later, the same component (esm) died again (of course just out of warranty), this time while i was driving along rt. 50 outside of dc. now, less than six months later, with less than 40,000 on the already replaced transmission, my transmission has blown again - same 'transmission overheat' message, same engine malfunction light, same undrivability. clearly from seeing the comments on this forum as well as other reputable sites such as edmunds and consumer reports, the 2007 grand cherokee laredo has a long, long history of mechanical and electronic problems. i have a phone call scheduled with a case worker scheduled for tomorrow, 7/13/2012. they'll either make it right or i'll be taking my story to small claims court. i encourage everyone who's had issues with this model to do the same.

 I have two problems with the vehicle that make it unsafe to drive. the first is that the engine randomly stalls. most of the time it stalls when the vehicle is stopped. sometimes it stalls at very slow speeds. when stopped, sometimes i hear a thunk right before it stalls like it was trying to go into gear. it has done this running in park and when the brake is pressed while in drive. it has stalled on me in busy intersections putting me in unsafe situations. turning the key all the way off and back on will restart it. the second issue is that the transmission randomly gets stuck in 4th gear. it happens most often when a lot of power has been applied from stop. but it also happens randomly. when it occurs, i pull over and stop the engine turning the key all the way off. usually when i restart it will go back to drive and all the gears in the transmission function normally. the issue is so chronic now with the transmission that it immediately goes into 4th and the vehicle is not driveable. it is at the dealer now. the dealer pulled codes and recommends replacing the transmission solenoid pack. this part is currently on national backorder and there is no eta of when the part will be available to the dealer. also there is no guarantee that this part will fix the transmission problem. if it doesn't, the vehicle will require a new transmission. they are not even looking at the stalling problem until the transmission problem is resolved. the stalling problem is very serious and i cannot confidently use the vehicle without fearing putting children in an unsafe situation. there should be a safety recall by chrysler on these vehicles.

 Was attempting to merge onto a busy freeway and accelerated up to 60mph when the jeep suddenly slammed into second gear and refused to shift. i couldn't get it to do anything other than limp very roughly to the shoulder. if people hadn't slowed down i would have been busted from several points. took it to the local jeep dealership and they told me that it happens with jeep grand cherokees all the time and that they recommended replacing the esm but stated that it doesn't always fix the problem and that they've replaced thousands only to have it recur months later. this is going to get someone killed.

 While pulling out of a gas station into heavy traffic, i began accelerating to the speed limit of 45 mph. i was accelerating rapidly as traffic was coming quickly from behind. the jeep stopped accelerating and the instrument panel showed all of the drive letters with boxes around them. the jeep would not accelerate for over 20 seconds, causing me to rapidly pull off of the road to avoid traffic behind me. the dealer found a faulty electronic shift module and replaced it. the vehicle has worked well until 2/15/12. at 70,000 miles, the dealer installed module has failed again. once more this happened when entering a heavy traffic roadway. there have been numerous reports throughout the internet of people experiencing this same issue. in my case, both failures resulted in me having to take evasive action to avoid a collision. i find it hard to believe that this semmingly common problem has not been identified as the trememdous safety problem it it.

 While driving the vehicle, had a sudden lose of ability to accelerate, no throttle response, no rpms on the tach, and every gear indicator was illuminated as if in all gears at the same time (park, reverse, nuetral, drive). dealership says its part # 52124137ac that needs to be replaced, and is not covered under any power train warranty, at a cost of $817.00. this problem happened 4 times before i was able to get it in to the local dealership, never on the highway, if it had happened on the highway, im sure i would have been taking a chance with my life.

 Owned the 07 jeep for 5 months.vehicle has been serviced for 2 different incidents. the 1st incindent(actually happened several times) is when the vehicle would not shift during acceleration and it would force me to the side of the road where i would have to turn the vehicle on and off until it would run correctly. was told by dealership service that it was a transmission sensor,had the part replaced-not covered by warranty.less then 3 weeks later, 2nd incident occured when i was driving 55mph down the interstate while acclerating to get over to an exit, the vehicle threw itself back into 2nd gear and i was forced to get over into the emergency lane so as not to be struck by oncoming traffic.the jeep had almost come to a complete stop in traffic! check engine light came on and went off after that.dealership states the gear ratio and valve cover forced the vehicle into 2nd gear. very dangerous!

 My jeep has experienced three electrical failures which have occurred approximately 6 months apart. for some unknown reason the battery died overnight each time. the second time it happened i purchase a new battery but six months later it drained too. i was able to successfully jump-start the vehicle after each incident. transmission----i haven't been able to down-shift from drive to a lower gear. this problem began at about 46000 miles. i took it to a repair shop where they diagnosed the problem as defective shifter control. before i had it repaired (est. $1000) it began functioning normally, that is, until today. i left a parking lot and merged into traffic. fortunately traffic was light because i couldn't get the jeep to go any faster than 28 mph. it seemed like the transmission was stuck in first. also the engine light came on. this is a very serious situation that should not be ignored by the chrysler corp. or the national highway traffic safety adm..

 On oct.5th as i was merging onto the thruway at 55mph the truck just stopped excelerating in rush hour traffic.i put on my flashers and coasted to the shoulder just barely avoiding being rear ended. this was the second time this has happened with this vehicle.you could press the gas pedal and the rpm's would go sky high but the truck would not move while in drive.i turned the truck off,waited several seconds,started the truck and it moved in drive.i immediatly called the dealer and have a oct.7th service call.this was a near death situation the second time due to the rush hour traffic.this vehicle has trouble shifting when started in the morning. after looking into the matter this appears to be a common problem with this model and make.it appears the electronic shift modules need replacing.after reading the numerous similar complaints i thought i would file a complaint before someone gets killed.

 Check engine light continues to come on at random. when it does, problems accelerating. car will not accelerate past 20 or sometimes car sputters jerking a lot. sometimes at red lights, rail road crossings, anything really where the car is stopped, car will not resume driving and car sounds like it is in neutral and i am reving it up. electronic dash puts a bracket over each gear, p r n d, all at once. when engine light is on it is on for a period of days. when i turn the car on and put it in to drive it makes the most horrible sound as if i backed into a wall and jerks. sometimes on the highway when the light is on it's as if i smell something burning through my air vents. everytime i take it to the dealer or any shop just for a diagnosis it's just my luck that the light turns off and they tell me my car is fine. this car needs to be recalled from looking at the complaints!!!

 Stalling issues with 5.7 hemi jeep grand cherokee overland. vehicle stalls at random but at low speeds and coming to a stop. happens approximately 3 to 4 times per month (about once a week). vehicle looses complete power, brakes, steering, etc. huge safety issue. only way to restart is to put in neutral or park. no check engine light but stores p0884 code. dealer can not replicate problem but notices code. dealer does not have a fix or does not know how to fix. vehicle has stalled on railroad tracks, 5pm traffic, and worse possible times and could cause serious injury.

 Upon driving on the highway, i felt my vehicle's transmission change gears, which felt like neutral. my car slowed a bit but then sped back up, and then slowed again and sped back up. i then noticed the p, r, n, d were all lit up. i had no control over my vehicle's acceleration when this occurred. after i brought my car to the dealership, i was told the electronic shift module had to be replaced. after replacing it, three months later it occurred again, and was replaced again. over the last 1.5 years it has occurred randomly, over and over, and now needs to be replaced again. this is a safety issue as the driver has no control over the vehicle's speed. jeep knows about this issue but refuses to acknowledge that a recall needs to be issued, therefore making their customers continue to pay for the repairs. a recall needs to issued.

 I was driving at 70mph on the highway when suddenly the car jerked and the speed drastically decreased to 20mph. i was unable to accelerate. the check engine light came on and there was a box around prnd instead of just around drive. i got off the highway as soon as i could and drove to my local mechanic. the same thing happened to me in oct 2009 shortly after i purchased the vehicle, i brought it back to the dealer and it was fixed at that time. now alittle over one year later the same thing happened. i am lucky that i was traveling when traffic was light or it most certainly would have caused an accident. i spoke with jeep and they were not willing to offer any assistance unless i brought the car back to the dealer in which is was repaired before, i explained that the dealership is one hour away and i would not be driving my vehicle that distance and do not currently have the financial capability to have it towed that distance. they need to issue a recall on this situation.

 Vehicle has stopped accelerating on multiple occasions. all of the prnd lights switched to having a square around them, normally, only the transmission position that you are in will have the square around them. while going 20mph the car stopped accelerating once until i came to a complete stop. had to put on hazards and had to turn off car and restart it in order to move again - was at least 45 seconds with no acceleration at all. problem has occurred five times so far. four times i was going between 15-20, and once going 50. check engine light has came on when this occurs too. four of the times it has happened i just made a turn and started accelerating, and once i was traveling a straight path.

 Driving at highway speed in drive, transmission downshifted into 4th gear without manual assistance. pulled over to side of road and attempted to shift back into drive unsuccessfully. i then shifted into park and back into drive. dashboard indicator said the transmission remained in 4th even though the shifter was in drive. shut vehicle off and then restarted the engine. i then put the vehicle into drive and resumed my trip. also, on a second occasion, driving with transmission in drive, starting from a stop, transmission downshifted into 1st gear. pulled over and shut off engine and restarted. put transmission into drive and resumed trip with no further problem.

 My daughter was driving her 2007 grand cherokee away at college. several times as she was driving along the roads with traffic, the transmission seemed to go neutral and all gear indications lit circled as though it was in all gears, but was not driving. when it finally kicked back into gear it accelerated quickly. she had to break and pull over several times this happened. we had the car towed to a dealership and they replaced an electronic module. this could be a deadly failure. two dealerships' service departments i have asked have heard of it but say it isn't a widespread problem, a sales manager where we bought it claims never to have heard of this.

 Today while driving on a highway at approximately 35-40mph my vehicle stalled. i had come to a complete stop and was awaiting a traffic light change. when the light changed and i stepped on the accelerator the vehicle began to hesitate and jerk and the esp/bas light, malfunction indicator light (check engine) and a message stating transmission over temp came on. i was in the left lane and immediately put on my flashers. the driver behind realized that i was in trouble and put on his as well. after i was able to roll to the shoulder, i immediately turned the vehicle off. after waiting approximately 5mins, i restarted the vehicle and continued to drive slowly and carefully to my office since i was just 2 blocks from work. this experience scared me because had this happened while i was driving at the 60-65 mph rate on this very busy highway, i could have been hurt. after reading several of the other complaints, i can also relate to the complaint about the tires having had to replace a broken stem after owning the vehicle only 2 days and i currently still have water leaking into my vehicle on raining days on the passenger side and now through the lights. i drive on the highway daily and after today's stall out, i am afraid to drive this vehicle. i called the dealership today and explained my issues and told the service manager about all of the lights and he told me the car was probably cold and if the lights don't go out i can bring it in on saturday. well today is wednesday and i will not drive that car again. since the dealership is quite a distance from my home, i will have the car towed so that it can be checked out. i am very uncomfortable with the idea of ever driving this vehicle again. i transport children as part of my job from time to time and i could never forgive myself if something was to happen to them while we are riding in this vehicle. *tr

 I purchased a 2007 jeep grand cherokee in august of 2006. 11/11/06 this is the second time the automatic shift stick has malfunctioned and would not go into park. the jeep has e remote starting feature with a safety that will lock the shift lever in place until the key is inserted into the ignition. this locking mechanism is what keeps breaking. we currently have 4700 miles on this vehicle. the dealership has fixed the shifter both times at no charge, but i certainly don't plan on having to replace this every 2500 miles. they need a design change. *jb
