While traveling on the highway at about 70 mph, the engine stalled and shut down. i had to pull over to the side and restart the car to continue. i've had similar issues with this vehicle dozens of times and i fear that one day it will cause an accident when it shuts down on me. the dealer seems to not know what to do about it and i'm scared that i'll get hurt driving the car. *tr

I have had an on going electrical problem with my 08 jeep grand cherokee. when i am driving my jeep at various speeds it goes off. it has happened numerous times at different speeds. on the interstate at 55 miles per hour it has gone dead at night and my headlights, dash and steering all goes out. i have had to shift into neutral and restart the car. it has gone off more frequently just driving around town, no warning happens it just dies. i have had my car in the shop several times and their tests show nothing wrong and when they drive it they say it does not die on them. it is in the shop now again and has not gone off on them. they put a recorder on my car and let me drive it and said if it died to push the recorder button and it would record the incident and they would know what was wrong. it went off 6 times in two days and i pushed the button 6 times. they said they checked the recorder and it showed no incidents!!!! i know this is a safety concern, i guess no one will do anything until there is a fatality. i understand my vin# is not included in the recall for the 2008 jeep electrical problem. i am not sure why.

I purchased a brand new jeep grand cherokee limited in 2008. almost from the very begining i've had problems with this vehicle & had been going back & forth to the dealership for one repair after the other. although the previous issues were serious, they did not rise to the level of being a health/safety hazard as my current problem does. in 2011, i started experiencing intermittent electrical failure; specifically, the vehicle would just stop no matter whether i was driving 70 on the hwy or 30 in a neighborhood. the vehicle would turn off without warning & i would be left trying (w/out any power steering) to coast to the side of the road with whatever momentum was left. once to the side of the road, i put the vehicle in park, turned the ignition to the off position & wait a few seconds. i would then start the vehicle right up as if nothing had happened. i have taken the jeep in to the dealer where the problem could not be duplicated. i've gotten to the point where each time it stops, i call the dealer service dept just so the record would show that i called, reported the problem had occurred again & also to vent my frustration of this recurring problem. my concerns: 1) the stalling is happening more frequently 2) the problem can't be duplicated on cue 3) i can't get more than a condescending, what do you want tone from mgmt at the dealership & 4) there does not seem to be any sense of urgency from anyone other than myself . my questions: does there really have to be some type of accident or fatality before someone actually tries to find out why this is happening & fix it? why aren't the service people equipped to do more than just speak to the vehicle owner as if we are stupid & like i'm just making up stories. although they haven't been able to duplicate the problem, is there truly someone trying to find out what the problem is? who do i need to contact?

Driving approximately 55 mph on interstate, vehicle suddenly lost power and steering control tightened. gas gauge went to e, mph went to 0. vehicle started immediately after it came to a stop. took vehicle to dealership and they could not duplicate the problem. was not satisfied with having my jeep returned to me without identifying solution. mechanic's best guess was that he could replace power module - total integrated power module was what mechanic replaced. well, jeep stopped five additional times in last 21 days. four out of five times, vehicle shut down on a slight decline (neighborhood dip or exiting gas station). vehicle did start immediately after it came to a stop. dealership still cannot duplicate the problem. frustrated with not having my primary family vehicle available.

There is a recall (#89275) for improperly manufactured front control modules on certain 2008 jeep grand cherokees. i own one such make and model (bought it used in june 2011), and am being told that i may have to replace my front control module by a service writer at the local jeep dealer. it would not start this morning at all. since august there has been intermittment malfuntions in the automatic start, navigation system and power seat settings, and parking assist, too. i am being told separately by the jeep national recall center that the recall is vin-specific and does not impact my particular vehicle. is this a legitimate explanation of fact by jeep?

There are two main issues: stalling and no start. stalling issue - vehicle began to stall on 8/9/10 on a random and intermittent basis while driving at varying speeds. the stalling appears to have stopped after the last service was completed on 7/25/11. the following information relates to the stalling issue. each date is separate visit to dealership: 8/13/10 - performed diagnostic test, with no fault codes stored. checked wiring to pdc and front control module. road tested for 55 miles. could not duplicate customer concern. 9/2/10 - replaced wireless ignition node - (due to a bind, stick or sieze). 10/27/10 - replaced throttle body. found the throttle body to be binding. 7/25/11 - performed diagnostic test, found a stored code for the crankshaft sensor. could not duplicate concern. replaced sensor. no start issue - this is defined as turning the key to the start position but would not crank. fuel pump would turn on after a few seconds. all electrical systems were fine. battery was full strength. in all of these cases, the car would start up without a problem within 24-48 hours after the no-start incidents. the following information relates to a no start issue. each date is a separate trip to the dealership. 5/30/11 - vehicle towed in on saturday. service technician started vehicle up three times on monday. let sit overnight and started right up on tuesday. battery tested fine. no codes in system. 7/25/11 - diagnostic scan, replaced crankshaft sensor (see stalling) 7/26/11 - vehicle towed to dealership. duplicated no-start issue. replaced engine wiring harness. service advisor extremely confident that this was the issue. *after speaking with the service advisor today, he had told me that they had replaced several wiring harnesses on the 2007, 2008 g. cherokees experiencing same issue since my service on 7/26/11.

I have a 2008 jeep grand cherokee that just will not start. not a battery problem. started with windshield wiper problems where the wipers just stayed erect and only worked on high. this happened two times 10/1/2010 and 12/26/2010. always started working again before i could see dealer. always happened when either rain or snow was present causing a danger of collision. on monday 2/28/2011 it just would not start. interior light lit, could not shift into neutral or any other gear. could not not get any help or even a call back from dealer, and two corporate managers never returned my call as they promised. when i finally spoke to coporate, both corporate managers were rude and condesending, dealers all going out of business locally in nj but no will confirm that. lots are empty. i found service in another county. he fixed it. he claims it was a wire control module and my key fobs also needed to be reprogramed. these are identical problems to other comlaints filed. simalar complaints all over the internet. i know three other people how had a simalar experience. one has a 2008 jeep liberty.

I was driving my '08 jeep grand cherokee laredo and driving on an on-ramp today to get on the freeway going about 35mph, when all of the sudden i lost all of the electric in my jeep. the radio went out, the odometer and temp/compass went blank, and i lost the power steering. luckily i was able to steer it over to the side. i then turned it off and back on and there didn't seem to be any problems. i drove it another hour and half home and didn't have any other issues. no check engine light or warning lights came on at any time i took it to the jeep dealer, however they claimed they could not find any issues. *tr
