ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
11/01/2011
I purchased a brand new jeep grand cherokee limited in 2008. almost from the very begining i've had problems with this vehicle & had been going back & forth to the dealership for one repair after the other. although the previous issues were serious, they did not rise to the level of being a health/safety hazard as my current problem does. in 2011, i started experiencing intermittent electrical failure; specifically, the vehicle would just stop no matter whether i was driving 70 on the hwy or 30 in a neighborhood. the vehicle would turn off without warning & i would be left trying (w/out any power steering) to coast to the side of the road with whatever momentum was left. once to the side of the road, i put the vehicle in park, turned the ignition to the off position & wait a few seconds. i would then start the vehicle right up as if nothing had happened. i have taken the jeep in to the dealer where the problem could not be duplicated. i've gotten to the point where each time it stops, i call the dealer service dept just so the record would show that i called, reported the problem had occurred again & also to vent my frustration of this recurring problem. my concerns: 1) the stalling is happening more frequently 2) the problem can't be duplicated on cue 3) i can't get more than a condescending, what do you want tone from mgmt at the dealership & 4) there does not seem to be any sense of urgency from anyone other than myself . my questions: does there really have to be some type of accident or fatality before someone actually tries to find out why this is happening & fix it? why aren't the service people equipped to do more than just speak to the vehicle owner as if we are stupid & like i'm just making up stories. although they haven't been able to duplicate the problem, is there truly someone trying to find out what the problem is? who do i need to contact?

There are two main issues: stalling and no start. stalling issue - vehicle began to stall on 8/9/10 on a random and intermittent basis while driving at varying speeds. the stalling appears to have stopped after the last service was completed on 7/25/11. the following information relates to the stalling issue. each date is separate visit to dealership: 8/13/10 - performed diagnostic test, with no fault codes stored. checked wiring to pdc and front control module. road tested for 55 miles. could not duplicate customer concern. 9/2/10 - replaced wireless ignition node - (due to a bind, stick or sieze). 10/27/10 - replaced throttle body. found the throttle body to be binding. 7/25/11 - performed diagnostic test, found a stored code for the crankshaft sensor. could not duplicate concern. replaced sensor. no start issue - this is defined as turning the key to the start position but would not crank. fuel pump would turn on after a few seconds. all electrical systems were fine. battery was full strength. in all of these cases, the car would start up without a problem within 24-48 hours after the no-start incidents. the following information relates to a no start issue. each date is a separate trip to the dealership. 5/30/11 - vehicle towed in on saturday. service technician started vehicle up three times on monday. let sit overnight and started right up on tuesday. battery tested fine. no codes in system. 7/25/11 - diagnostic scan, replaced crankshaft sensor (see stalling) 7/26/11 - vehicle towed to dealership. duplicated no-start issue. replaced engine wiring harness. service advisor extremely confident that this was the issue. *after speaking with the service advisor today, he had told me that they had replaced several wiring harnesses on the 2007, 2008 g. cherokees experiencing same issue since my service on 7/26/11.

Engine stops running while the vehicle is being driven. typically the failure occurs when the throttle is closed during deceleration i.e. (when decelerating to exit the freeway or decelerating to stop in traffic). the problem was first encountered at 14k miles and persists to date. the vehicle currently has accrued 46k miles. the vehicle has been to the dealer on 5 occasions for diagnosis/repair of the problem. the dealer cannot duplicate the problem and no fault codes are stored in the on board diagnostic system memory. chrysler customer service was contacted for assistance to no avail. the chrysler customer service representative merely contacted the servicing dealer and was told no driveability issues exist with the vehicle. i note the vehicle stopped running in traffic after leaving the dealer service department 4/22/2011 (chrysler customer service was advised). this condition is unsafe as steering and braking systems are significantly degraded without power assist.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while stopped at a red light, the vehicle began to shake and lose power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the pcm programmed. the pcm did not stop the shaking; however, the vehicle no longer jerked forward. the vehicle has been at the dealer five times for the shaking issue, but they cannot remedy the failure. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the shaking and jerking almost caused a crash. the current mileage is 11,700 and failure mileage was 5,514. updated 6/4/09 *cn the rear view mirror was out of frame, the engine had a rough idle and it felt as though it was going to stall. updated 06/09/09.*jb the consumer she and her husband were displeased with the arbitration boards' decision. the consumer stated the vehicle would surge forward and vibrate when at a stop and would feel as though the vehicle would stall, even more without the air condition turned on. the explanation the consumer was given that the air condition will cycle on at the same time the cooling fans which was said to cause the problem. updated 11/02/09.

I was driving my '08 jeep grand cherokee laredo and driving on an on-ramp today to get on the freeway going about 35mph, when all of the sudden i lost all of the electric in my jeep. the radio went out, the odometer and temp/compass went blank, and i lost the power steering. luckily i was able to steer it over to the side. i then turned it off and back on and there didn't seem to be any problems. i drove it another hour and half home and didn't have any other issues. no check engine light or warning lights came on at any time i took it to the jeep dealer, however they claimed they could not find any issues. *tr
